From RFDJumper: The RFD is manned by 18 career firefighters which man 5 eng, 2 tillers, a tower and a heavy rescue. Each truck has 2 ff with the exception of the rescue which has a firefighter and a suppression LT. In addition there are 3 MICU staffed by 6 paramedic/ff. The volunteer service in Reading is essentially dead. There are 13 certified volunteers, of which 1 may show up at a big job.

Love it! Keep up the great work:D Btw Reading is an interesting city. Their rigs break down frequently, even their new ones, and arson blazes are frequent and ravaging. I think of it as the Detroit of PA. It's very sad. I've been there once and I don't know if I wanna go back.

The ladder truck seen here now serves Lewisburg, PA as Truck 2-2. I have a video of it in action.

    Truck 2-2 is a 1997 Simon/Duplex 100’ TDA ex-Reading Fire Department L-1.

Unfortunately my man, I’m not sure where you got your info from but if you’re referring to Lewisburg, PAs reserve truck, that is not ex-L1. That truck is sitting in a scrap yard. And its twin is still a reserve truck in Reading.

Was venting more to the city then FFers. Thinking that you was understaffed. Seeing what there is for apparatus and seeing that Reading is only 10 sq miles. How many fire house? Even if it being a small city area at 88,+++ people. Still should be a min of 3 on at least the trucks. Would make fire ground ops go easier but not like its a 10 minute wait for the next team so maybe 2 to an apparatus is right.

It's dumb. They staff their rigs like it's still the 1980s and Reading still has a big force of volunteers who are doing duty crews at the station when that hasn't been the case since the YMCA fire. The city has failed the fire department as a whole in terms of paid staffing, volunteer recruitment and training, and safety.

I'm not sure what makes you so mad? All of our rigs have been manned by 2 firefighters since 1994. The current staffing plan is still in effect, and we still manage to put out a lot of fire.

This video makes me mad.... What good is it to roll the tiller when its NOT MANNED.. All aboard,, yep hop on in, drivers room only tho......
So do they take a man off the engine and send him to the roof. Maybe leave the ladder unattended in ops letting the engine driver/ pump control man watch/ control both apparatus SMH
Only hope they have hired a few FFers per shift to rightly staff the apparatus. The difference between life and death for both FF & citizens
