The Comanche is bassy and sorta makes everything sound equal, while the normal start pickups are trebly and and certain tones can go over others which isn't a bad thing it's just a different sound
Excellent video. I've never touched a G&L but have been exploring their sounds as much as possible via the Internet. Your video was particularly helpful, with both the Legacy and the Comanche being played back-to-back as well as having a traditional Fender Strat in the mix. Any chance you've ever played an S-500? If so, what did you think of it?
Nick thank you for this Stunning “COMPARO” between the Comanche, Strat, and MIM Strat …. even I can hear the very obvious differences as you demo’d them. Fantastically helpful, thank you. As I try to choose a new guitar that will be dedicated to gigging and busking in myriad uncontrolled situations. Your beautifully stripped down comparison speaks volumes about the robust clarity the Comanche is capable of.
Curious what your settings are on the PTB system. Are you compensating the commanche to make it sound more strat like? Is the fenders tone at 10? Is the Treble and bass both at 10? Well i see you tweak it near the end at least.
That Comanche is great but doesn’t quit have the quack that the other 2 have on the 2 & 4 positions. Thinking dire straits sounds. Thank you for such an in depth review.
Pretty sure the guys guitar is a build to order one since Comanches don’t actually come in surf green standard unless you do a build to order, custom, or g&l does a builders choice. So you can pretty much get any combination you want.
Had an 89 American Standard Strat, sold it for a Legacy, and then sold the Legacy for a G&L ASAT Classic S with alnico pickups. (A T-style with a Legacy pickup added in the middle position.) The PTB system really expands the tonal range of the Legacy. I don't know why Fender didn't think of this. I also thought the G&L dual-fulcrum vibrato was far superior to the Fender. Very good video. Thanks.
If you want the Comanche to sound more traditional (he had everything on ten) roll treble to about 7-9 and the bass roll back to about 4-5 and volume around 7-8
@@areallyboredguy5825 I’m putting together another video going through some more tonal options with the controls because that is the standout feature of the Comanche IMO. I don’t think I dropped the volume control at all though…just jamming on a clean tone.
Do you find the pickups on the legacy too bright? I have just bought a new one but I might return it as the pickups are waaay too bright even when I lower the treble to around 3. Thanks
Actually the first tone control is the treble cut, the second is the bass cut. I own a Legacy and several Strats so I’m pretty familiar with them. The PTB seems to work best on higher output pickups. The Strat was my favorite followed by the Legacy and Comanche. I’m curious as to why you didn’t use an American Strat-the Pro II offers the neck/bridge combo as well as all three pickups. Nice demo, great playing and a great recording too.
Ah man, how embarrassing I listed the PTB backwards…in my mind, I was thinking of it backwards - “passive bass” as adjusting the amount of bass that you hear, rather than it being a treble cut and same with “passive treble” amount of treble heard. I would have loved to do the demo with an American Strat but I was just working with what I actually own. Appreciate the feedback, thanks for watching 🙂
Perhaps the best comparison demo I've ever heard 💪 & I have seen hundreds 😳 I liked the Commanche & Fender equally, just different. Love the Fender single coils, but also that full tone & switch options on Commanche
@@BoltRM Appreciate that! I watch a lot of comparison videos too and took mental notes of what I would do if I ever made one. I ended up keeping the Strat and Comanche, although the Legacy is still a killer guitar!
@@iridios6127 Please don't explain me, i know all about it ! The magnets are different and they influence the sound, ask G&L ! I'm a guitarbuilder and pickup manufacturer - believe me.
The thing about magnets is their strength ceramic magnets are either in cheap guitars are very expensive guitars you can’t hear a difference you’re delusional.
we are the winners thanks LEo for the Strat family . Great video , you covered everything ,very useful 😀👍👍
Thank you!

Appreciate the kind words and I’m glad to hear it was helpful!
Thanks for the great review, Nick! Appreciate you, mate!
The Comanche wins for sure. Love the finish on the Legacy.
Of course, thanks for checking it out!
Este video es excelente, gracias por tomarte el trabajo de combarlas todas! La próxima compara una S500 :D
Thank you, it was a fun video to make! If I ever get ahold of an S500, I’ll do some more comparisons.
agreed- comanche has a tonal palette that is focused and unique. however- i did like MIM strat for different shades. great presentation. ty
Thanks Steve!
They all sound great, but I would take the Comanche. It does have that P90 vibe.
Yeah, definitely the most versatile of the bunch. Thanks for watching!
I like the fender best when playing clean but like the Comanche the best when playing with distortion.
Yeah, the Comanche handles distortion remarkably well.
I love the Comanche
Me too. A very unique guitar!

No compensation, tone controls were at 100% on all three up until I did the close-up demos of the tone control range.
@@nick_reiner cool!

Thanks Brian! I thought the Comanche had the most Strat-like sound with all three pickups selected.
You can totally manipulate the ptb, volume, and pickups to get the sound
........love the Comanche........does it come with maple fingerboard?
Yes, they make them with a maple fingerboard.
Pretty sure the guys guitar is a build to order one since Comanches don’t actually come in surf green standard unless you do a build to order, custom, or g&l does a builders choice. So you can pretty much get any combination you want.
I like the Comanche, much fuller sounding.

Commanche win's imo. Nice Leo, you rock! All three are his anyway so he wins no matter. Thanks for the video nice job.
Yeah, pretty amazing what he contributed to the world of music! Thanks for watching 🙂
I thought I'd like the Comanche the best but that Legacy rings like a bell - very sweet. I give it to the Legacy..
It certainly does! Thanks for watching!

@@nick_reiner I'd be super interested in that? To me it seems like you could really make it sound close to a strat this way.

I’d love to but I don’t have a way to get ahold of an S-500 at this time.
Do you find the pickups on the legacy too bright? I have just bought a new one but I might return it as the pickups are waaay too bright even when I lower the treble to around 3. Thanks
Yeah, they are a bit bright. Might be worth adjusting the EQ on your amp too (if you haven’t yet).

Yes, up until I demo’d the tone controls.
Woooow Surfgreen Comanche 🔥🔥. It will perfectly fit with my Surfgreen Doheny!!
Love the surf green!
I like the Legacy best. I think it's the alnico pickups, and I like the flat finish.
Yeah I love the flat finish!
Comanche for me! Thanks.
Good choice, thanks for watching!
No buzz at all with the comanche ❤❤
Leo is the MAN! What a legacy he leaves us.
I’ll take that Commanche…!!!
No, it’s mine! 😂
Legacy is the best on clean
Comanche on dirty
Legacy for sure ! I don't like the ceramic magnets ( i can hear the difference clearly ).
It's not a magnet - it's a pickup design.😉
