This is a good start and great to see transformation reaching fragile ecosystems in the mountains. However sustainability is not just about engines and energy, it’s also important to source your materials in a sustainable manner. That plays an equally important part.
wow, just wow! I love this video! I love future and this video describes the future of snow cats the most. And at the end „The world is changing“ Thats so cool!
Everyone’s comments complaining about run time will look stupid in 10 years when these run a full shift. You think electric cars 20 years ago had 300 mile range? It’s about developing technology.
Andreas, it still requires oil and gas to build the machine. It’s all a scam to appease the people who think unicorn farts solar and wind are actually viable energy sources...which they’re not. This hydrogen machine is a joke.
@Andreas Berni haha I have, and green energy is a scam. No proof CO2 is bad...fossil fuels are what keep you living your life bud. Go have a soy latte with Greta...
@Andreas Berni you should educate yourself. Liberals hate hydro power because it dams up rivers. They tout solar but the emissions caused in the production of solar panels is nothing to look past either. There is no power source that exists that doesn’t cause emissions at some point.
Since its the hydrogen tanks that limits the usage time. I would really aim for 9 hours use since regular shifts are 8 hours and 1 extra hour as safety margin. Bigger tanks but fewer would make this possible in same space the stacked tanks are now. To really reach 9 hours you might only need to extend the exterior by 10% on either side and fit the biggest possible tanks to utilize space as efficient as possible. Fewer tanks reduces cost per storage volym.
@@ronbradshaw7404 a great concept of a machine, but plagued with so many issues that most companies tried to replace them well before the were due to be replaced. The D6XE is much better though.. so far...
@@ronbradshaw7404 apparently they were fantastic machines when they were working, but a lot of people were having issues with wiring and electrics, and because most mechanics are used to dealing with... well, mechanical hardware, not electrical systems, they were expensive and difficult to fix. So a lot of companies (anecdotal, business owners I know and have talked to) decided to replace them relatively early in favour of the easier-to-maintain mechanical-drive D8 and D6 models instead.
I would love to know how to become a part of this world! What an incredible career and life time opportunity it would be to work as a snow groomer on a Prinoth :)

I mean I love the idea. I can’t image the time and effort that went into this. But 4 hours of work time... not sure how that is useful to anyone at this point.
@Andreas Berni on a completely different note, since you guys seem excited for a hydrogen powered future. How do you think it will look? I've personally found it an unnecessary efficiency decrease to have hydrogen powered cars (that being, a hydrogen fuel cell and electric motor, not a hydrogen combustion engine, that would really fix everything) compared to normal BEVs. To me it makes a lot more sense to have hydrogen powered charging stations, do you guys agree? Or what are your views on this? I know, totally different topic, but it's been on my mind for a while :P
@Andreas Berni Very fair! I fully agree with your reasoning! Never really thought about how a hydrogen combustion engine would work, but of course, you still have the same downsides as regular ICEs, my bad! What I'm curious about though, is if hydrogen really is the best solution for smaller power applications, like cars. I realize that batteries really aren't doing much good in terms of sustainability and being environmentally friendly, but you do lose a bit of efficiency from converting electricity into hydrogen (at the plant) and than back into electricity again (in the car) for the motor. It's stil a problem in the hydrogen powered charging stations, I know, but it seems like a more realistic solution for now?... Since we are starting to produce a lot of BEVs. What is your take on this, should we focus solely on hydrogen powered vehicles? Or is there a place for both? I'm still trying to wrap my head around what solution is best for which scenario.
Offhand, looking at the cutaway graphics, I don't see any mounting superstructures. And the hydrogen tanks would certainly hamper tower sweep right now.
Well usually when an operator is working at a ski hill I would imagine they would swing by the chalet for for food, restrooms some beverage. The refueling station would probably be nearby.
It’s a long way from the DMC DeLorean snow cats we drove.😂 Back to the future. Never could get it up to 88mph. The winch cat had the seat installed sideways so you could Bailout quicker. LMC died in 2000.
So answer this one question, how do you charge this electric machine? Now remember you can’t use fossil fuel so you can’t use the typical power station down the road that supplies power through the lines. No no you can’t use a generator that uses fossil fuel either! Oh yeah use that great solar panel that won’t even produce enough power to run an electric bicycle. Well it could but there wouldn’t be room to ski, the whole mountain would be covered by solar panels. Plus the snow may be a hazard to the panels, and the process of building the panels I guarantee is done with fossil fuel power and components dug out of the earth that destroys nature. One last thing how about that great recycling program for solar panels. 😅 Would love this explained honestly and looked at not only by one side to make yourself feel good that your doing the earth justice. And for wind--- Many vehicles that now use gasoline or diesel can definitely be driven by electricity. But it’s not free or clean. For an all electric World, New Clean Energy ( wind & solar) will never be that dependable in the long run and at least 30% use of old dirty fossil fuels will be needed to fill the gap for many years. Many problems with New Energy that is not talked about in the media. For instance Wind: Mechanically; The wind mill’s big blades are just like aircraft wings and very likely it get iced up in cold wet weather, needing to be constantly deiced equally or they get out of balance and completely shut down so they don’t shake apart. Scientifically; A huge field of wind mills take the (kinetic) energy out of the relative wind (a transfer of energy) and converts that energy into electricity (potential). The left over relative wind has lost that (kinetic) energy and will effect the area down wind. Many huge fields of wind mills (as planed for) have real natural environmental consequences , it is like a man made mountain that's effecting the natural wind patterns!
Global warming is such a scam. Using a lithium battery charged by a coal power plant is NOT “zero emissions”, the total carbon offset of these are 10x their ultra-clean ULS diesel engines. 😂😂😂
Batterys aren't energy dense enough to be used in heavy load operations yet and hydrogen is expensive. This is a "look what it's possible" showcase, but I wouldn't recommend anybody to buy one. 3 hours of run time, only 270hp.. The client who would be interested in one probably needs way more than this. I imagine it's expensive as hell too.. I doubt it'll ever come out of concept form, and if it does, the power train will be changed drastically.
I think we should stop with the "zero-emission" thingy. This is a pure marketing bs. How is the electricity produced ? Call it "electrically motored", "electric drive train" or whatever. Moreover, on car, the manufacturing is responsible for a good part of the total co2 emission of the vehicle. The only way to make it "zero-emission" is to have "zero-consumption" and not produce these machines. Stop fooling ourselves.
Skiing is a luxury that drips with the use oil. You claim a zero emissions machine, I call bullshit the frame, tracks plastics in the cabin, Chinese tablets controls, wiring, ect, ect all oil. Plus the oil it took to get it their. With frankly laughable run times. Start making a machine that usable yet friendly diesel over electric. You can cut the fuel consumption (witch equal emissions) and up the bph all in one shot without sounding Hypocritical
i like this company and the products, but i see no future for the hydrogen project. hydrogen is more a dream than a good solution. way too complex, too expensive, also too dangerous and a waste of energy. there will be better and exchangeble batteries for this =)
Any hydrogen electric vehicle can be converted to electric by swapping out the fuel cells and tanks for batteries when the supply allows. The rest of the machine should be the same.
“Concept”. “Prototype”. This video is just virtue-signaling advertisement. It’s disgusting. Slope owners won’t buy a more costly machine that does less (only 3hr run-time), and this manufacture knows it. So then why did they build this emission -free machine? It’s advertisement. “Notice us. We’re such a great moral company”. No, they aren’t. They just want you to think of them as moral - that’s their goal.
Sorry but electric powered equipment still sources it power from a source that generally create emissions. Beside that your mining really horrible minerals and materials from third world nations making nasty water contamination and such. Unless your source materials are clean certified from nations that don't allow industrial dumping while going after resources then your still not sustainably manufacturing. The whole clean thing is really a feel good.measure unless you clean the origin of materials.
So the most important question for the Leitwolf: since it runs on hydrogen, does it emit snow in stead of fumes?
That's a genius observation
