" Popcorn " (oorspronkelijk gespeld als " PopCorn ") is een vroege instrumentale synth-pop, gecomponeerd door Gershon Kingsley in 1969 en verscheen voor het eerst op zijn album Music to Moog By. Het werd opgenomen op het Audio Fidelity Records- label in New York City.
De titel kan verwijzen naar het korte staccato of scherpe "knallende" geluid dat wordt gebruikt, of naar popmuziek die "oubollig" is, dwz kitscherig. De titel wordt over het algemeen als één woord geschreven, hoewel in sommige hoesjes (zoals het geïllustreerde) het twee woorden zijn, "PopCorn".
In 1972 was een heropname van "Popcorn" door de band Hot Butter een grote hit in veel landen. De track is sindsdien gecoverd door een groot aantal artiesten.
Originele versie (1969-1971):
Componist Gershon Kingsley (van Perrey en Kingsley) nam eerst "Popcorn" op voor zijn album Music to Moog By uit 1969. In 1971 werd het nummer opnieuw opgenomen door Kingsley's band First Moog Quartet; later bracht hij een versie uit onder de naam The Popcorn Makers en dit was de versie die het meest succesvol in de hitlijsten haalde.
