Good discussion guys. Love the way you understand our team; I hold the same views so I’m able to engage to the end.
Merino is a very smart signing. What I’d like to highlight also, which you almost mentioned when you touched on the fact that Partey and J20 are leaving next season, is that Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri are officially part of the 1st team squad with specific plans and roles already defined for them. Next season they should have made progress and we’ll see how much.
I also think Zubimendi staying at Sociedad was because he’s joining us next season to complete the midfield once Partey and J20 have left. From what Merino said, he seems to suggest he was aware of joining from a year ago.
Let’s see. I’m sure Arteta md Edu plan well ahead with all their signings. Especially the way we’ve not been going into any bidding wars! (Since Mudryk) all our players want Arsenal and nobody else.
Until we see him introduced in an Arsenal shirt I am not believing anything

I do agree on the specifics that he brings overall things like receiving from within the pockets, etc
I think its slightly expensive for someone who has 1yrs left on the contract and also 28yr old.
But I think its a very favourable payment option, like over 3-4yrs payment maybe. So the price was slightly higher.

My problem is merino plays in a pivot and he’s comfortable there, hence let’s not just toss him out there where he’s a lone 6 or 8
Double pivot in a slow build up or in defensive phases would probably suit him well
I always felt the key transfer we needed was Declan Rice 2.0 except instead of spending 100m we spent 30m.
Our left was completely ineffective last year. Now, it's suddenly potentially just as dangerous as our right. 😂❤
He defo is a Rice 2.0 with a left foot. Imagine Rice getting injured and we only have Viera to play there or Jorginho.
