I always thought that the Russians were such fierce fighters. To launch missiles into areas populated by civilians, especially children, is truly an act of cowardice.
Russians like anyone else need to be motivated and believe in what they are fighting for. As for the missiles, chances are, some poor sap is given map co-ordinates and told to fire there without any explanation of what or who he is firing at.

I worked for a trucking company owned by Ukrainians. They are great mechanics and metal workers. Very thorough. Ran a safe fleet. Better than most 'American' companies I have worked for.

Nothing but respect for these people, in early 90's I was waiting for a "Greyhound" bus home. I went to a local bar. There I met up with at least a dozen Ukrainians who after WW2 had settled in UK. The few hours in their company and stories they told had given me an insight and respect for these people. Needless to say I just got on the bus, two of the guy's in their 70's had to get me 19 at the time to the station and persuade them to let me on LOL. God help the Russian's...

From a soldier's perspective, what a bizarre conflict! Both sides are using the same types of tanks, planes, and APCs. I assume to avoid friendly fire casualties, one side or both have to mark up their vehicles to show which side they are on.

It's a term that has stuck around since WW2. All German unguided anti-tank launchers are called Panzerfaust (or PzF for short) with a number to identify the specific model. There were the original Panzerfaust 30, 60 and 100 AT Grenade Launchers during WW2, but later on the Bundeswehr adopted the PzF 44, the PzF 84 (which is a Carl-Gustav CG2) and finally the PzF 3.
More correctly “Armor Fist”
The Germans also had a “Panzerschreck” (the German equivalent of a Bazooka) - Armor Fright…

It is true though, that in German "Panzer" in general is not only used to refer to what would be called a tank in English but most kinds of armored vehicles (Schützenpanzer = APC/IFV, Bergepanzer = CRV, Radpanzer = wheeled IFV/APC/MGS, Flakpanzer = Armored Anti-Air Vehicle, etc. etc.), so translating "Panzer" to "Armor" is indeed more accurate than "Tank", at least if the latter is generally understood to be a MBT.
