Sanjee appreciate your sensible analytics, unlike most other Aussie finance youtubers who only talk about click-baity topics.

This is a a really thorough, easy to follow explanation. Good use of examples and comparisons. I for one watched your video on hedged vs unhedged. People need to know these things out is important and where ETF is domiciled as there's tax implications as well.

Solid info Sanjee, from a fellow Melburnian.
Answered a lot of questions I was looking for quite fruitlessly until now.
Also balanced and reasoned argument toward the end regarding which EFT to go for.
Looking very forward to the VGS and VGAD video!

Great video mate. The only thing to add I think is that what you do with currency hedging should depend on where you plan to live long term. Let’s say you live in Australia and know you want to be there your whole life, it seems most sensible to buy the S&P500 for example on a platform that buys and sells it in AUD. That way the exchange rate becomes irrelevant to the buying power of your money in Australia. If you’re someone of a conservative style already investing in index funds I don’t see the sense in starting to try to predict exchange rate

Mate, your explanation is outperforming the rest of the Australian youtubers!

Can you please make a video on, how to analyze particular stocks or ETFs? (means how to pick a stock?) what will we have to look for before buying any stock? how do you do your analysis? .

Great video and great explanation. Sanjee, the video at the 9:10 mark, I think you may have explained this the wrong way around. I think the correct explanation as to why IHVV went up in value was in-fact because the AUD currency went down in value against the USD, rather than because the AUD currency went up, as you said.
So in summary, IHVV will out-perform IVV when the AUD currency goes down against the USD, and conversely IVV will out-perform IHVV when the AUD currency goes up against the USD.
Sanjee can you please confirm this?

Enjoy your style of simple explanation.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the etf IOO , and any alternates like QUAL. Qlty
Suggestion . Can you do a show on if you win 250000 dollars today, how would you suggest going about investing this in today’s
Market with a view of investing for 5 years at least.

How would you hedge Australian ETF base don SPX index? with SPX options in USA? but they trade at diff hours and the Australian ETF will be in AUD

  • @joshuachellew
    @joshuachellew 2 года назад +1

Sanjee, something else to mention that's a real consideration, is that the ATO impose some regulation on IHVV whereby any advantage achieved by means of the hedging (in the instance of an unfavourable AUD/USD current movement) is turned into an extra dividend payment on 30th June (EOFY), which in turns results in a sharp unit price correction. Note: You can the sharp price drop in the IHVV chart at 30th June 2021. This caught me by surprise as I was holding a IHVV position at this moment in time, and the large dividend was unwanted from a taxation point of view, as I was investing with the hope for higher capital gains instead (not high yield through dividends).
Did anyone else (who was holding a position in IHVV) notice this at the EOFY? Does anyone have any more information/explanation about this?

Hi Sanjee, I may have posted this comment in another video but I'm thinking of getting IVV but I already have VGS. Is this too much of an overlap? My portfolio I'm looking to set up contains VGS, VAS and possibly IVV. Be good to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers

Hi there, you'll need to check what your Super fund allows. I think each one is different. They'll usually say what is available through an "investment menu" of some sort.

Anyway, just wanted to ask about dividend yield. SPY has a higher yield than IVV. How does this affect the overall performance of these two?

Buying through Vanguard will mean your holding is SRN not HIN.
JPMorgan has been appointed as the sub-custodian to hold any listed securities in your Vanguard Personal Investor Account on your behalf. JPMorgan holds legal ownership of these listed securities subject to Vanguard’s direction, and you (the investor) retain beneficial ownership.
      But, no brokerage.
So, depends what you value more…
