I bought an i7 2.9Ghz mid 2012 13" non retina MBP for USD$270+40 (shipping). was listed as parts+overheat issue+slow. Turns out, just need thermalpaste replacement, ssd swap and ram upgrade. It's good as new. I also bought an old mid 2010 MacBook core 2 duo for USD$60+40 (shipping). Flipped it, again, new ssd, thermalpaste, ram & battery. gave it to my younger sibling. it's a fun process, and i learned lot of things by doing it on my own, rather than having someone else repair it.
I love buying them to repair. Im am able to do board repair also so that gives more options. I own a perfect condition 2017 15" mbp for $200. Broken screen and purchased second to get the screen for $135. Repaired the second and resold functioning with cracked screen for $175. Both machines perfect with no scratches with batteries sub 100 cycles. 👌
I get MacBook Pro 2012 models for $50-70 every day most of them in perfect condition.. some of the people who sell them to me say that Apple store couldn’t fix them? but usually it’s as simple as nvram/smc reset or swapping hard drives, battery, ram etc.. I paid $300 for 7 MacBook Pro 2012 yesterday and I have 5 of them running perfectly already. The other 2 well one has failed logic board, the other has EFI lock but i can still use them as parts..
Big fan, was wondering if you’ve done a video where you shop not only on eBay but allow Craigslist for the laptops? What would you say is your purchase rate that you receive laptops as described when you get them and or is there any horror stories to speak of. Lastly can you do in depth as to which models are most profitable when reselling in the market. Thanks
I got a late 2007 15in MacBook Pro for 60 bucks locally it just needed an OS, and I thought I’d be happy with it but I got unibody envy so I’m jus lookin at 08’s n 09’s thru the for parts and auctions lmao
i repair macbook airs at the school i work for and i have macbooks with water damage and it was soaked and it had every red dot activated and it had mold and rust in it
Over the last decade ebay has turned into a resale market with a few items you can find cheap. Best markets are new and local like offerup and mercari. Major people on ebay have a profit mindset wereas local they need cash fast so you can get anything significantly lower.
hey I'm a big fan and have been using your videos to help me buy and upgrade a 13" early 2011 macbook pro. Quick question do you recommend a certain brand of replacement battery for your macbooks? I can't find any good info on the Internet. Thanks.
A MacBook, yes, if you have the parts that fit to the motherboard (specifically the Display, Wifi-Card and Battery due to their connections), a Mac I think so, too. iPhones and iPads not so much because they have hardware locks. Newer MacBooks with the TouchBar also have Hardware Locks between the Touch-ID-Sensor and the Motherboard. Machines from the 2020's may have the Displays programmed to the individual Motherboards.
If your goal was to make money off of these machines, wouldn't it be more profitable to part them out? Repairing them to working order does seem more enjoyable, but as far as money goes selling the parts seems like the better option. I'd likely only repair it back to working condition if I were planning on using it myself or giving it/selling it for cheap to someone I know.

Hi Luke, I really like your videos, but I don’t get this one. You say you’re shopping for parts and then you find the “christmas“ tree macbook that should be the definition of FOR PARTS or something Louis Rossman or someone like him could use for parts. You on the other side my friend are looking for functioning laptops you want to upgrade not fix :) I understand what you want to do, but that is definitely not fixing and laptops you are buying are definitely not for parts And then you said that you can’t make profit off of these FOR PARTS laptops. You are not the person looking for FOR PARTS laptops, you are looking for FULLY FUNCTIONING laptops in the for parts category, that you can UPGRADE, NOT FIX which is something any monkey including me could do.

Thank you. You are just the right thing I need. Thank You So Much! You read my mind. I have been searching for these kind of info for 3 days.
If you can get mid-2012 MacBook Pros with good/undamaged mother boards, cheaply, you're in business. And if the display works, it's a steal.
I get MacBook Pro 2012 models for $50-70 every day most of them in perfect condition.. some of the people who sell them to me say that Apple store couldn’t fix them? but usually it’s as simple as nvram/smc reset or swapping hard drives, battery, ram etc.. Broken hinge and dead graphics chip incoming. 60 bucks are okay but these things are real time bombs.
@@RunnerBalz yeah the 2007 models are your best bet, unless you are happy disabling the dedicated GPU.

will you be active on your subreddit? Want to ask you something. (lots of things actually)
hes active on it :) he answers as well!
I still think most of the times it's more profitable to sell the parts then it is to refurbish the machine
Very true
buy it now prices are always inflated in my experience from flipping apple products on eBay
Found a 17 inch, with flashing folder and no hdd. For $300 on eBay. Should I buy it to flip?

Hey Luke, is it possible to build a Mac just from buying separate parts?
A MacBook, yes, if you have the parts that fit to the motherboard (specifically the Display, Wifi-Card and Battery due to their connections), a Mac I think so, too.

Any advice on purchasing LOCKED Macbook, Macbook Pro, and Macbook Air laptops? Is it worth paying someone $129 a piece to unlock them?
Aren’t those usually stolen laptops?
you what to buy a macbook pro or air

Yes, most of the laptops on here are laptops that I've sold,
Luke Miani where do you sell them?

Do you sell on Craigslist or something like that?
eBay
ebay charges an insane selling fee, roughly 13% within COUNS. Craigslist and Liquidation.com are better place to look for a used macbook
