- Some CBBC continuity with presenter Anji Kreft, into The Raccoons, and then out of that and into the opening of that morning's Live and Kicking via a helicopter (sort of). Before anyone asks, this is all the Live and Kicking that was on the tape, but that menu of what's to come at the very least gives you a flavour of the era. Seems to be from Saturday, 21st March, 1998, going by the BBC Genome website and the mention of Mother's Day.
So, is Mr Blobby funny or not? People seem to forget that he was created as a spoof, specifically designed to wind up celebrities who thought they were making a kids' show as a Gotcha on Noel's House Party. Before long, though, he became the exact thing he was parodying, and therefore unbelievably irritating for the viewer, too. All of that said, I find his appearance here really quite amusing, and I put that down to his character changing in the interim into an utterly demented carefree unhinged destructive cheerful psychopath who needs it explaining to him why landing a helicopter in the studio they're all standing in isn't a great strategic move. I think I could watch Theakston bickering with and trying to control him all day long. Maybe I'm not right in the head.
Many thanks to David for sending me this tape.

I wonder who conceived the idea of turning television centre into a pinball table, because it’s very clever and the graphics still look pretty good even today.
I always remembered the Live and Kicking set being huge. Looks tiny here!
Remember reading a behind the scenes magazine article back in the day that made that exact observation, the set looked huge on TV but was absolutely tiny in reality. I guess when you were watching on 14 or 20 inch TV from the other side of a room it did look huge.
I started working in 1997 and had to work every Saturday, so sadly that where my childhood ended lol. I loved watching Saturday morning tv. I'm actually surprised the raccoons was still on. I'm sure it was in the late 80s n early 90s when I watched it.
Live and kicking was good, but I preferred going live.
You're right about The Raccoons - it was definitely being shown over here in the 80s, so the BBC got a good 10-15 years out of it. (More, in fact, if you count the initial pre-series standalones.)
@@VideotapeFTW first thing I'm searching for tomorrow morning is raccoons lol. Can't wait. I haven't seen it in eons.😂👍
@@TheRetroManRandySavage The Raccoons were on CBBC till around 2002/03.
@@VideotapeFTW More like 18 going on 20 years of airings, if you also count the original specials that pre-date the series from the early 80's. ;)
Mr Blobby helping the Leprechauns land the helicopter! LOL!
What could possibly go wrong?
CBBC ONE Continuity On Saturday 21st March 1998.
Mr Blobby drowning out the end credits instrumental version “Run With Us”? Heresy! Blasphemy!
Blooby, blooby, blob! OOOOH Blooby! :D Mr. Blooby says that CBBC were doing that ever since the 80's, or at least the 90's during their constant repeats of the show.
I remember watching the Raccoons on the Disney Channel in the in late 80's and early 90's.😃😃😃😃😃😃😃. Keenan Thomas from Keenan and Kel is now Saturday Night Live Legend .
Apparently Kenan and Kel are back working together at the moment! I wonder what they'll come up with...
This racoons episode was repeated in December 2000( I think) CBBC did go ahead as planned presented solely by Ana Bouler(I think that was her name) all links were pre-recorded not surprised who'd want to be in a studio that early on a Saturday morning The first link didn't quite go as planned we then got a promo for The Lampies and Rotten Ralph then went in to the Racoons luckily the BBC1 announcer hadn't clocked off duty yet so did a quick apology then the Teletubbies that was missed then plays hitchless
Used to look watching spiderman on here because it was fox kids. I didn't have foxkids when I was kid
Blobby
Blobby scares the living hell out of me!
Absolute grinning psycho, isn't he?
@@VideotapeFTW definitely!
Sorry for the quality and super sorry for anyone wanting more Live and Kicking, my 13 year old self was not aware of how popular these old clips would become. But thanks again for uploading this though. :) I did always liked that phone number jingle.
Really no need to apologise - the quality is good enough, and the clips are a great glimpse into the era! And I think a whole generation still remembers that phone number, thanks to the jingle. ;-)
@@VideotapeFTW It's just a thing with me to apologise, but yes I remember that and the Scratchy and Co P.O. Box address, thanks to that jingle. ;) :D
@@meridian2000 Awww thank you, that means a lot. :)
Hmm. I don't remember that cbbc presenter off the top of my head. She looks familiar though.
I was thinking that! Unlocked a vague memory in my brain but was the first time I've watched something from "my era" of CBBC and couldn't place a name.
@Benriggers Thanks Ben.
@Benriggers I found her shortly after! Wonder what happened, she had the makings of being a familiar TV face.
(Just the traditional test comment - please ignore...)
