Great review and matches my experience. I had a wet stone grinder - and swore at it more than by it! I thought the Sorby was expensive, but as you say it gives a sharp repeatable and accurate edge every time. It revolutionised my wood turning!
Glad you’re having a good experience with it mate! It really is a great tool!
How's the hand? Hopefully everyone is doing well. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Your favourite Canadian fan.
Pretty sore actually mate, think there might be more damage than originally thought. Off to the dr in a few days to get the stitches out and get it checked 🤞
I’d have bought the straight chisel jig had I not seen you use the gouge jig as a straight edge. Cheers!!
Works a treat, and after the hefty price it’s always good to save a buck where you can 😂
Great review mate. I have just got one, so was pleased to see a familiar face when I did a search on you tube. Was interesting that you didn't use a specialised jig for chisels, ill def need to go into that a bit deeper. Cheers Ash
Glad the video could help mate! Yeah there’s a jog you can buy, but no need for it, I just use what comes with it for chisels and planes. Works great! I’m sure you’ll love it mate!
Many thanks for this informative video from an Oz living in Germany.
No problem Andrew, glad it helped mate!
JND Certification is a must!! That's a nice bit of kit, Love your style of reviews.
Thanks Mike!
What a great review.
Try some Camilla Oil and some fine sandpaper to clean up your surface rust, and then a light spray of Camilla Oil to prevent it coming back.
Thanks mate! Since this video I’ve actually hit it with some #kustomgrit and it’s cleaned up really well!
Sold! Have you got a video of sharpening your kitchen knives with it?
No mate haven’t got footage of that. There’s an attachment you can get to do it perfectly, I haven’t purchased it just yet
Great review, thanks. Wish I knew about these before I started turning, wet grinders wear too quickly and get water everywhere. I started with an old 8” grinder and set that up with Tormek jigs, changed to a white wheel, that still burned my chisels, then changed to a CBN wheel then went to a slow speed Tormek knock off that I fitted with the Tormek jigs and CBN wheel, the system works OK but it was 12 months of frustration and cost about the same as a pro edge.
Yeah mate those Tormek jigs get pricey! That was the biggest attraction with this one I reckon, it came basically ready to rock and roll!
the review i have been looking for straight to the point no BS now i am convinced to buy one,i have a wet grinding system but the wear on the wheel and the all the reseting due to the wheel wear is a pain.Just one question the sanding belts are they a size you can buy from a harwear store ? 😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I don’t believe they are a standard size, but the Sorby brand ones are very reasonably priced! I’ve also heard of a few people having them custom made for decent prices!
Glad you enjoyed the review mate!
Awesome video, subbed. Been pretty frustrated trying to work out which way to go; slow grinder aluminium oxide, or CBN upgrade or full on tormek. Not a big fan of all the water/mess. This seems the go!
Yeah mate still to this day highly recommend this system! It’s quick, easy and mess free. I’m currently in the process of upgrading my sharpening area to make it even more functional. But I do axe throwing regularly now to and even use it to sharpen my comp axes, it’s great at it all!
@@JNDCreations Awesome! Any suggestions on what Axe's to get to begin axe throwing?
My favourite so far is the Barebones Field Hatchet. Throws very nice!
I really like your reviews on all the things you do them on. You are almost passionate about what you're reviewing and it makes me need it and want to go get it.
I need a lathe, a cabinet saw, a scroll saw, a Proedge and a thicknesser! and a Jointer. I will have to go shopping soon! Great review, Again!
A big 10-4.
'OH i rang the bell. But i watch every one anyway cause I'm subscribed.
Wow that’s a mighty shopping list mate. Don’t forget my affiliate link when you go for that shop 😉 hahaha
Appreciate the kind words dude. I am passionate about this stuff! And when I was researching to buy it I could never find honest Aussie opinions on it, so trying my best to rectify that!
@@JNDCreations I will do the affiliate link, and i plan on getting a few things when i finish setting up my garage to take it. No idea what your commission will be!
@@pajaro685 it’s only a very small percentage mate, but everything helps towards continuing to produce and improve content on this channel!
Make sure you suss out Kustom Grit for your finishing mate, I’m sure you’ll love it!
@@JNDCreations i agree, it all helps. Do i do it in store when i am there? It will be in a month or two, but i'm almost ready, just a few more things to build. bench and cabinets and draws. Then i will get a few things.
@@pajaro685 the link can only be used if you purchase online mate. So you can purchase online and collect in store. If you check out the video description, the first Carbatec link will take you to their website. Then any purchase you make within 2 hours from then it should work mate 😁
Nice video. Just bought one of these here in the UK with the proset for £419. It's a lot of money to me, but as you say cheaper than any other tormek jig based systems. For me I didn't want to risk f'ing up the good tools I've bought over a year and it's the idiot proof repeatability I was after. Not sure I'll end up buying them, but other options for this machine are the honing and polishing wheels.
Thanks mate! Yeah they are very pricey, but value for money works out much better than the other systems! Especially for a turner!
Yes I have seen those add ons. They look good, haven’t got them myself yet though
Excellent review my friend! I'm right at the start, and you're going to save me headache and time with this recommendation.
Do you ever encounter slight burs after sharpening/honing, and would you recommend a stone or paper to clean them up?
Thanks!
Glad it could help you out mate! You’ll always have slight burrs left, they get less noticeable the higher grit you sharpen to. I tend to use a leather off cut as a strop to clean them up.
@@JNDCreations Appreciate the tips!
Great review mate!
Thanks dude!
Can u sharp your thicknesser blades on the system
I believe there is a jig for it, but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t looked into it myself. I know you can get a jig for carbide cutters, so you could sharpen helical head blades.
@@JNDCreations thank you for the reply back
@@MrTerryTurtle no problem mate!
The Aussie Ragnar Lothbrok :)
I’ll take that for sure! 😂
Does it come with a jig to sharpen knives? What’s the difference with the one on Amazon? A lot cheaper.
It doesn’t come with the knife job, but you can purchase one separately.
I’m not sure which Amazon one you are looking at mate
@@JNDCreations yes pro edge on Amazon 635$
@@robertmunguia250 is that AUD? I’m not sure I haven’t checked on Amazon. Perhaps is doesn’t come with the jigs
Any good for kitchen knives?
Absolutely mate! They sell a small and large knife attachment for it (something I’ve had my eye on for a while but am yet to buy) that is for this exact task!
great review I would use some Inox Lanox MX4 Lanolin in a spray can on your metal bits , works great but smells a bit like a sheep.
Thanks Eryc! Since this video I’ve hit it with Kustom Grit so I’ll see how that holds up over time!
@@JNDCreations THat's why the Scots wear kilts, sheep can hear a zipper a mile away.
Nice
Cheers DK!
Outstanding review ... thanks Mate!! (BTW ... consider me a new sub ... Cheers!!)
Thanks Dave glad it helped out mate!
With all the money you saved on removing facial hair you could have afforded a complete Tormek system.
This is true, but who needs a tormek when you’ve got this beauty! 😂
