Why does this device infuriate so many?? I just don't get it!
It's the one area of an otherwise fantastic community of woodworkers and turners where opinion is completely split? And some people RAGE MONSTER over it 😂
After 4+ years of ownership, and all it's hard work, I thought it deserved its own video, and when a new turner asked if I could help get their chisels sharp again, I saw an opportunity to do a favour and let you know what I think about the Pro Edge! Enjoy ... ... if you can lol

Brilliant machine. When your just starting out and learning how to actually use the tools correctly to know you have them sharpened correctly and a with the right bevel angle is a massive help. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

A great video. You explained how the machine worked and how the settings worked and it made it very easy to follow along with what you were doing! Thanks!

Loads of people hate this machine, but I've found it a game changer!! The only thing it cant sharpen is my wit ;o) but i can turn, spend 30seconds sharpening, and get right back to turning!!!

I have the Pro Edge and love it. It's a silly price, yes, but the quality is there. What annoys me is the 'It's just a belt sander comments' ... gah! ... What makes it so good, and the only reason I would recommend it, is the repeatability. No faffing about with measuring or aligning (like with the Tormek, Wolverine etc). You want 45deg? you put the pin in the 45deg hole. It's that simple. You'll notice with other systems (and people who hand sharpen) that they'll take quite a few passes (because they're not as repeatable). Where as I find with the Pro-Edge, it's one pass, at most two passes. Job done. Back to turning! ... There are some things that could easily be improved though. The table needs to be quick release (continuously undoing that bolt is painful) and the angle for the belt arm thing needs to be toolless. Another issue is that the motor gets in the way sometimes, so it would be nicer if that was moved back, although I understand how this would complicate the gearing. Oh and finally, a reverse switch! ... why thats not a feature is baffling.

Are we the same person??? 😂😂
Yeah the repeatability and speed of use is what justified it to me 👍
I can be away from the lathe for less than 30 seconds and back with a fresh, razor sharp edge - every time!

Personally, I would go for the Pro-Edge too… the main competitors machine (Axminster), is put together in Turkey, and as in compliance with EU laws - as changed a couple of years back - states this only in the ‘EU Compliance’ section of the machines documents. Additionally, if the parts of the machine were imported, say from China, it makes no difference whatsoever, as under EU Law (which is what we are still complying with by the way), if it’s assembled in a country, then that country is regarded as the country of manufacture, even if not one part involved was made in that country…!! Of course this offers great savings to tool suppliers, which unfortunately they choose not to pass onto their customers, by still charging top prices for their tools…!! One big rip-off…

@@stun9771 i couldn’t comment about its origin, but I doubt a 1/5hp motor that’ll pull 440m per minute of belt along in such a small footprint are very common.
5 years and mine is still as solid as a rock, Italian or not! 👍
