I had a big mare, she was food aggressive and drove my other horse away from the food. It was a challenge to say the least. Confinement was one solution... You had to be strong
Our horses are all fine. Our youngest cat is the problem. Trying to get ANY animal to lose weight is a freaking nightmare! We've been at it for two years now and it has turned our entire family routine upside down.
They are, though, if your body is designed to live on grass. Seriously, they are super sugary compared to a horse's natural diet. Horses bodies evolved to live on a super high fibre, incredibly low calorie food, in huge quantities. Eating carrots to them is really rich and high calorie and low fibre _compared to what they need_. If they're healthy they can have a little now and then but it really is a treat.
You can tell by just the way the owner is PULLING the horse that they don't know much about horses. When trying to get a horse to trot you can use the end of your lead rope as not a whip but sort of like a crop. (Remember horses are big animals, so the amount of force they feel and the amount of force we feel is a lot different, For instance what we think would be a wack on the haunches with a crop just feels more like a tap to them). When this lady and her daughter continue to pull on the horse it's doing nothing. You have to actually get them going with a bigger nudge than just trying to pull them along and giving into behavior that probably was caused by them letting the horse gets it's way and just not knowing. Horses natural instincts is to get away from pressure. So when they were pulling and pulling the horse naturally wanted to go slower. When the vet gave her a wack on the bum the horse started to go right away. (I know this was long, but it angers me when people don't know about horses but then go out to buy one)
I like giving horses baby carrots rather then the big honkers Lol! A horse only needs one or two carrots as treat no more then that for carrots are high in sugar
@@tiffany3652 Unfortunately they were mostly appy & TB’s with poor feet. Happy to say their situation has DRASTICALLY improved & while most are still not in ideal condition, they are all healthy 🥰
carrots are very low in caloires doubt that is the problem I go with to much grain, horses don't need grain not even the highly athletic horses, their bodies are designed for grass and lower calorie stuff that they canmunch on all day.
The vets are not sketchy. They are just using a term in a different way than you do. "Condition" as used in the livestock world means the amount of fat coverage. So a "well conditioned" animal has a lot of fat coverage.
I presume in this case they were being sarcastic. But its an improper use of the word lol. the merriam-webster dictionary states "well conditioned is having good physical condition - sound." again, not this mare.
It's a joke. Like 'well, she's certainly not starving that horse, is she'. Since 'well-conditioned' is often used to mean 'not underweight'. It's obvious from the way she says it and what she says right after that she thinks the horse is very fat.
+Cynthia Plante It's an expression that's often used casually, though. Lots of times phrases have a common meaning different from their literal meaning.

I knew carrots were fattening! LOl
Everything in moderation

They are mostly sugar that's why
Viki Banaszak anything can be fattening just got to be careful of how much you are giving or eating

not even a minute into the video you could tell that horse was obbese
IF SHE COULDN'T TELL HER HORSE WAS OBESE SHE OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT HORSES TO BREED THEM
Horses weight can slowly go up and if you are seeing them everyday its easy to miss it.
Kelsea Moore I mostly agree
Ella Tarves if you buy a horse you're supposed to spend every day with it.
The breed is also a larger body

AY DIOS QUE HERMOSA SON DOCTORA LO QUIERO BESOS MUCHO BESOS 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
The owner is a cutie!!
She didn't know her horse was obese???? Seriously? We need the equine police down there, ASAP!
There's horses out there thinner than African children, the focus should be there.
@@andrakarsten226 being obese is just as bad as being skinny
Fat horses need love too.

I love oal of tham
Omg I want that gypsy farnner she's adorable but I want a horse that is really good

Does anyone know mcjuggernuggets cus the blonde girl in the car looks like aunt Melissa
Gypsy's are bigger ((By hands wise)) But fat looks nothing like thick bones and muscles.

U gotta be healthy people
Show the right way horses cows dogs show how, why
It's just sad that people let their horses suffer like that. Who would let their horse get that obese?
Carrots make horses fat ????
Carrots contain a lot of sugar so yes.
It would be nice for the owner to loose some weight also she didn't even want to trot the horse. I wish them well..
No breeding when their that big...
Para tiñen
uhhhhh?
Can't say their horse is fat? wtf... Will their feelings be hurt?
The truth hurts, I guess... Poor horse.
Only horses with CURVES are beautiful.
Sorry, jk.
😂
RAM COTE ZANCHOZ MORE OSVAL AMOR MÍO NO ME OLVIDES PORQUE AUNQUE SEA
Hurt horses there so many at sell please down and ride the well-trained
The horse and the owner are on the same diet
Ok? Lol
AND IT'S NOT WELL CONDITIONED. NEEDS TO BE CONDITIONED INTO SHAPE.
Can't you see she's overweight?
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SAY THAT YOUR HORSE IS FAT! WOMAN.
I dont think they realize a "well conditioned" horse is a very fit horse...the total opposite of this mare. These "vets" are sketchy lol.

Wait, sorry , i should mention "condition" itself is referenced to body fat, but the term "well" is the issue lol.

I have stopped watching and also stopped Dr. Pol. 15 minutes or one full 1/4 hour is dedicated to repetitive advertising and promotions. EXCESSIVE!!
