Hi Hope - here's what I do - I chop onions & pop them in a bag and, leaving a gap at the top of the bag, roll it to remove the air then zip closed and push it flat and freeze. The same with peppers, mushrooms, chilli's, celery - I never blanch it and have never had any problems. Herbs, ginger and garlic are whizzed separately in a mini processor and packed the same way as the other veg. It's easy just to break off the amount you want for a recipe. Odds and ends of fresh and tinned tomatoes are frozen and when I have enough I cook them in the slow-cooker, push through a mill and we have homemade passata! The leftover pulp can be frozen until I have enough to be dehydrated to make tomato powder. Thanks for all your great info. I love your channel. Pixie
Thank you so much for the stacking tip!!! I always freeze flat, so more fits, but somehow never thought of organizing it standing up instead of laying down. This is a game changer.
Fantastic video ; thank you Hope ! A lifelong farm girl & a farm wife / mother for 30 yrs now I have to confess I did not know about freezing eggs ! I recall as a girl my Grandmother keeping excess eggs from her hens in a crock in some kind of solution in the basement however . Freezing seems handy though - thank you ! Continued blessings to you , Larry and your boys !!!💕💕💕
Hi hope i think thats a great idea packing the frozen bits side ways never seen that before .i saw som one chop their garlic up and put in the ice trays .and chopped herbs snd just take a couple of the ice cubes into your dinners to add the flavour x
my mother in law froze cottage and ricotta cheese and used in lasagna which was WONDERFUL! I tried freezing cream chees and it become crumbly but was able to still use in a cooking application.
Yes! I never thought of that. I wonder why it freezes so well in lasagna. Maybe because it's mixed with other ingredients? Like you, I tried freezing cream cheese years ago. No luck at all. Weird texture when thawed.
@@UndertheMedian Hard cheeses freeze well not the soft ones. It's the water content. Freezing draws moisture out, so what makes soft cheese soft, is altered. Hard cheeses barely have any water, that's what makes them hard. I recently took a food chemistry course ;)
@@UndertheMedian Butter freezes well. I know people who stock up on Kerry Gold butter or whenever it goes on sale and freeze it. Heavy cream can be frozen. It apparently can still be whipped into whipped cream, just don't try to make soup with it. Haven't tried those, so can't verify. My friend buys entire wheels of parmigiano reggiano, slices it into wedges then wraps it and freezes it. She also said that grapes are a delicious frozen treat. I have tried the grapes and they ARE delicious! I've munched on frozen blueberries in the summertime to cool down but the grapes are juicier so much more refreshing :)
I use your ice cube tray method with tomato paste. Typically in a recipe you will only need a tablespoon or two but the average tomato paste can has about 8 tablespoon of tomato paste. I will measure out the rest of the tomato paste in one tablespoon portions dropping in the individual ice cube tray holders and put them in my freezer when they freeze I drop all of those tomato paste cubes into a zip bag and keep it in my freezer then when I need tomato paste for a recipe I have it at my fingertips😊
Brilliant!! I have no racks in my freezer. Guess I'll check at $Tree. Thank you so much. And, thank you for the ebook on cutting grocery costs & the ebook on bulk cooking!! Y'all are just a wealth of information! I appreciate your help so much! You're very blessed🙏❤🙏👵
Great tips. I made the mistake years ago trying to freeze honeydew melon. $2.99 for a half store cut melon or $3.50 for the entire melon. I bought the whole one thinking I'd freeze the other half.
Yes, just until bright green and then take if out of the boiling water and plunge it into ice water. Years ago, there was an asparagus farm and factory about 45 minutes from our home. Every year, I went with my mother-in-law and waited in line to get big boxes of it cheap. Then, we would spend the day blanching and freezing it.

Is it possible to flip the way your refrigerator doors open?
no
Look on the top of fridge for the hinge area and then check other side to see if you have same . If it is you can switch hinge and then change handle
U can freeze cream cheese I do all the time never had a problem
I found that it changed the texture. It was still usable in recipes, but sort of crumbled after it was thawed.
Do you have a second freezer?
Yes, we do.
Thanx Teach ~~ ~~~☆☆☆***☆☆☆~~~ ~~
Do we need to blanch asparagus?
