    11K CDN......this is not a kids sled at that price point lets be realistic please....I would never recommend this as the introductory mountain sled to children to my viewers. I get excited about new products and this does excite me but not at that price point. I also understand the cost to produce and recover costs but this wouldn't be fair to customers imo. Sorry but on price point its a fail, on platform and capability it gets a thumbs up.

Please explain , what new machine , in this weight category is cheaper, as I am looking for one for my Son... Who is currently on a Ski Doo Renegade 900 ACE, which is too Heavy for him, and he wants something he can do more Mountain Riding with ... Mind you I had to pay 11K US dollars back in 2015 for this!!!! So, please if you are going to make such a Comment back it up with Alternatives ... because simply put, I am not seeing any?

    I don't think the size availability has been a factor in keeping kids riding. It's the cost! Most people that really want to ride struggle to pay a legitimate car payment for 1 sled let alone an entire fleet for the entire family!

Last trip she didn’t wanna ride it because it gets stuck all the time she couldn’t keep up always had to stay on the hard pack. This machine is exactly what she needs to keep riding with me because the wife won’t let her take her 800! 😋

    A lot of people seem to be missing the point. It isn't the cost of the sled so much as the size. Putting a kid on an old over-size sled is just plain unsafe. Big sleds are heavy and powerful; not an ideal situation for a smaller body and kid that doesn't have a bit of life experience under his/her belt. I'd like to see them cheaper too, but costs are high because the manufacturers have to make a profit and snowmobile sales are stagnant and so dependent on good snowfall. Thanks Cat and Yamaha for taking this task on!

    Awesome that Arctic and Yamaha has been finally getting into the smaller sleds as our youth are missing out! We own a ZR 200 for our girls, our 6 year old is perfect for the 200 but our 9 year old is starting to outgrow it. Was excited about the 400 coming out, but disappointed that they just couldnt stay focused on our youth. This 400 looks too big in size for a kid that's out growing the 200 but not quite ready for a 7/8 size. It's like they took an 800 and cut the motor in half :( C'mon Arctic....You hit the nail on the head with the 200, give us something our kids can step up to next....I'm curious what these 400s weigh, gonna look at one in person. Unfortunately looks like we have to pull out our '93 Jag until she grows big enough for this 400. Man, I am bummed! Was hoping for the 340 to come back, or at least the 400 in a smaller sled size! Cool video guys, but does nothing for us parents that are looking for the next YOUTH sled....show kids riding this thing!

  • @timvanschoick931

    The snowmobile manufacturers have lost their way. They have made these sleds so advanced and so costly many people have left snowmobiling. They have eliminated 340, 440, and 500 cc sleds that were perfectly fine with normal seats. I know costs go up but you need a snowmobile to be between $5,900 and $7,900 for low to midrange sleds. And those little seats are dumb.

      @Logan Dupuis MSRP for the Freestyle 300 was $3,999 in 2006. People are now selling these sleds for $3,500 or more. I'd say that holds the value pretty dang good. Go find any other full sized sled and see if you can get MSRP pricing on it used.
      A 2006 Skidoo REV 800 MSRP was $9,999 good luck selling your 2006 REV for anywhere close to that price. You can't get as much out of it as you can the Freestyle.

    My buddies 9 year old has a 146” SKS. Good throttle control all around and is very comfortable on trails and in open meadows. Even carves which blows my mind. (60# kid on an 800 carving is a weird thing to see. Lol) I think this sled has its place but for the price I think that a lot of actively riding kids will out grow it very quickly. A full size 600 144(6) makes more sense if you plan on keeping your investment around for awhile. They also make throttle blocks that limit how fast any sled can go if that is a concern. Cool sled. I think the market isn’t big enough for what it is and likely won’t see it stock around as a model for too many years.

They need to sell these at near cost if need be not only would they make money off the parts for years down the road but they would get so many more younger kids into riding and keep them there. Hopefully they will get that price down.

    Artic Cat cannot fulfill any demand for these so they're trying to call it a kids sled no one wants. It's actually a snow machine bristling with technology when you see one in person and there's a reason they're not publishing the weight. They're hoping nobody purchases these until next year when Ski-Doos ability to sue them for copying the Rev frame goes away. There's a lot more to the story. One example is that the sled weighs 361 lbs wet

    He said that this was the first "capable" mountain sled. I rode a 550 Indy trail sled following my dad around for almost four years. That was a tiny lugged trail track with a trail front end. The rmk Evo by Polaris is that same engine with bigger lugs, a better front end, and mountain features. Coming from experience the proven 550 engine by Polaris matched with the rmk Evo would be just as capable if not more than this.

    So snowmobiles have been getting lighter for a long time now and they have been extending track length and paddles. So with the mountain needing torque why isn't a 600 instantly seen as the right sled for kids. If this was a trail sled 400 would do but you lose like half the power between driving uphill, being at high altitude, and having powder instead of packed snow.

    • @JM-nt5fm
      @JM-nt5fm Год назад

      Yeah, that's the crazy part of these video reviews. This guy is a really big dude. He's 6'4" and 210 lbs and wearing a backpack. Which means there's close to 250 lbs of dude on this sled and about 70 lbs of fuel (11+ gallons). So at minimum it's hauling, at 7K+ ft 300+ lbs in powder.
      It would obviously do wayyyyyy better with only 200 lbs on board (fuel and rider). Like night and day difference. Especially considering the sled dry is 70 lbs lighter than a full sized sled (361lbs vs. ~440 lbs). Think about how huge that weight difference is. 80 lbs!!!!!
      These reviews need a guy who weighs 140 lbs. That's probably going to be hard to find because there aren't many guys that size that would find this sport even remotely interesting because nothing is built for them. It's all built for 200+ lb dudes.

    This could have been a great sled for the younger rider, but IMO the size of the machine is still too big. If it was a true mid-size machine I'd be willing to overlook the price tag, but this is a "7/8" size sled. Translation: it's a full size sled with smaller plastics. Cat got it right with the motor size and power output, but they put it in a sled that is too big for that motor. I don't care that people are claiming they hit 70mph (at 1000ft with a 121 on hardpack). They (Cat and Yamaha) are really targeting the entry level buyer with this sled, and if they pick up some of the youth demographic, it's just a bonus for them. Don't be fooled into thinking that this sled was made for kids ... it's not. Too bad, too ... because the manufacturers are missing out on what could bring a very good return, and that is a true 1/2-size sled (with all components scaled to size). Yes there are costs to make molds for plastics, etc. ... but the claim that it would cost millions to develop is a load of crap. I'm in manufacturing, and I know it can be done for much less. the sled market is small, so I can't say whether the ROI on a true 1/2 size sled would pay off in the first year or two. The demo for sleds is largely middle aged men who tend to spend money on things they want. A true 1/2 sized sled with current suspension and decent power would IMO, sell much better than this sled, as a lot of the demo for this industry have sons and/or grandsons, and they would be much quicker to open there wallets IF the product being offered was closer to what they really wanted. Sure CAT and Yamaha will sell a few of these sleds. But my point is that they would sell far more units if they actually made a sled that the demo has been asking them to make for years. Right now, this is the best thing they've got on that front. But it's still a compromised sled, and for that reason many will look at the price and say it's too much to spend on something that isn't what they really wanted.

    • @yamadoo04snow
      @yamadoo04snow 4 года назад

      I completely agree with you on this sled being too big and heavy still. But being a true half size sled i think is too far. The SnoScoots are more of the half weight but like 1/16th size motor. What we really need is the 1/2 motor in true 5/8 - 3/4 sized sled. I would love to see this sled with a 136" track instead of 144". Slightly narrower track like the 14" on the trail version and a narrower ski stance. No reason to make the front end wider than the current mountain sleds. It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Also make the battery optional because I don't mind starting the sled if I need to for my kids. My boy can start the Freestyle 300 by himself at 10 years old anyway. I would rather save the weight on the sled rather than having electric start. Take out electric start, get a light weight can, smaller gas tank, smaller tunnel, track, and front end and you could have easily shaved off another 50 lbs. Then that sled would be a youth machine that you would not be able to build fast enough.

      Yes, yes, yes!! As a family that has a sledding disease, haha, my 9 year old daughter is outgrowing her ZR 200. That 200 they totally scored with getting the youth of today into sledding! These manufactures have missed out on 20+ years or an entire generation because they wouldn't build a damned youth sled. We have an old '93 440 that you can't find parts for! The ZR 200 was perfect, heard them coming out with a 400, got all excited, only to be let down! What are kids supposed to upgrade to after the 200? Our old '93 is too heavy and old. C'mon Arctic/Yamaha....you hooked us on the ZR200, give me the next YOUTH sled between the 200 and this current 400, around $5-6k! Man they effed up here. Hit the bullseye with the 200, only to completely miss the target....you got kids hooked on the 200, now give them something to grow into before this 7/8 size 400 or you are back to square one losing a generation just after you gave them a taste! Electric snowmobiles will be the only machines allowed in the best places. The noise restrictions are getting tougher to combat the crowded nature of some spots, and to save the environment from all sorts of pollution. Trust me, I love a good ol 800cc chainsaw pulling sick lines, but If an electric sled can weigh less than an 800cc 2 stroke, go just as far on a full tank, yet have %20 more power, and almost zero maintenance, its going to be the only machine anyone will want soon enough.

      I would rate the experiences as; (1). Snowmobile, (2)Sea-Doo/Jetski, (3)Performance Dirt Bike(YZ/RM/CR),(4). Quad/ATV. Snowmobiles allow you to literally fly to places not available in the Summer(like that island in the middle of the swamp thicket no one can ever get to). As you go faster, it is "planing" on the powder, like a boat on water.

      Mark, Yamaha's hold there value you well, and since in Mid size with Modern tech is hard to come by .. I can see that ... Here is a real example... I purchased a 2015 Yamaha Viper LTX DX left over with 500 miles on it...He even threw in flares that go on Rear Tunnel, handle bar bag and a Racewerx Quick Adjust Coupler Block... I got it for 7800 US dollars out the door, go check what this sled is worth today, it is a 2015. I will save you some time... 7300 US dollars!! 5 years later! What I am telling you is the God Honest Truth! I have paper work to back price paid ... and you can look up the rest .. fact is I can get closer to 7800 for it . Why? Because I upgraded it with items people want ... Lithium Battery, MBRP trail Can(wow does it sound awesome)(those two items reduced weight about 20lbs) and 1.35 Cobra Track... Anyway point is Yamaha do well on resell, THAT IS A FACT... Even after AC agreement

I went from a bravo short track when I was 13 to a 600 vmax when I was 15. I feel like this new class is just a cash grab. An excuse for companies to sell more units to kid spoiling parents.
