There is a lot to say about this "restoration" , in my opinion is not a professional job ,BUT we need to consider the fact that they live in India, and maybe is very dificult and expensive to find a milling machine to resurface the cilinder head. I think they did their best with the resources they have. Keep going!!! Best wishes in you restoration!!
Machine shops are easily accessible in India in semi-urban or urban areas. It's a fact that many mechanics in India don't use a torque wrench because of lack of awareness, but the fact is this is shoddy work even by Indian standards. Painting of flywheel and clutch assembly, mixing up the pushrods, no checking and/or adjustment of valve clearances are certain things that a mechanic won't do even in India.

Oh ... you're so fussy. I only want it mounted on my coffee table as a conversation piece. Ya I am old and single. Why do you ask? I had a 1970 Toyota Corolla Sprinter as my first car. $1,250 bucks out the door (Canadian currency) Ran like a little sewing machine it did.
My favorite parts of the video were the machining of the block, head, and crankshaft. The precise measurements of all tolerances were especially riveting. Oh...wait....
It might come as a surprise to you but rebuilding this engine, even improperly, netted this man tens of thousands of dollars. Even if it went in the trash after the camera stopped rolling it served its purpose.

@@GrimesGarage you know nothing about engines clearly. Even basic automobile engines have torque specs and orders things need to be torqued especially the heads. And I have done the heads on a toyota r22
The head bolts should always be new and tightened in a particular cross hatch type pattern as prescribed by the manurfacture. But the end result looks beautiful. Well done. There is a saying in this world that if something looks good, then it usually is. Must use a torque wrench for the head bolts though. Thanks for a great video. 5☆
Although difficult to watch, very impressive. You can tell he has very little resources and knowledge of engine rebuild protocol. Seriously job well done for having no procedural manual. Granted it probably died soon after, which is sad because I'm sure he was happy to rebuild the engine and have it run forever. Hope someone found this guy and took time to teach him how to build engines properly
you be surprised but vast majority of old 70s jap cars still running in sri lanka are rebuilt just like this, most people really don't spend anything above a 1000usd on something like a ke30/ke70 corolla engine rebuild. and most of those cars still can be seen on the road, living thru harsh humid tropical weather.
Wow Outstanding work would be interesting to know how long the engine will last before it needs another rebuild as i see that the a lot of the major bolts where not torqued down.
not even checking the big end clearances... random shells on a worn crankshaft.... that will knock like a very knackered engine withing a short while. Piston ring clearances? bore honing? It might run for a while, but it won't last long for sure.
Didn't even torque the bolts on the connecting rods, crankshaft main bolts or head bolts. But then that seems minor compared to the rest of the mistakes, huh? I wonder how long this engine will run for.
@@johna2327 Being Japanese, probably a reasonable time with a lot of horrible noises until a big end bolt comes loose or the left over grinding paste in the head kills the new piston rings. When it got taken apart, there was a broken ring, yen none of the pistons rods or shells were kept with the cylinder they came from. ok, he fitted new, but what caused a ring to break, which cylinder and at least measure the bore for its diameter to get the correct ring set.
The number 2 rod is turned the right way before he adds the caps, just not on camera. You can see the hole being in the right position after a cut. But the bearing caps are all turning the wrong way. Also he is not using a torque wrench, so that motor risk falling apart. It's fun to see the engine being renovated, but I do not belive the end result is a good one here...

Let's hope that old faithful motor is very forgiving
People are surprised he didn't use a torque wrench. He's stripping the engine in the dirt and throwing all the parts into a pile. As for engine assembly he just threw the parts back together. I wouldn't be surprised if he spins a bearing from lack of oil from a clogged oil passage. But hey it's shiny 🤤
Be nice to have just a bit of narration, explaining what's happening. The K motors were terrific, and I remember my partner buying a Starlet with multi-point injection. It was hit hard on the l/h side, but it was worth repairing, and it was surprisingly grunty. Even better the her earlier "Twin Squish" carburetor powered Starlet, and that was fairly quick for a 1300cc oushrod engine, even in stock condition.
quite ok restoration but some important parts and machine works are not include in this restoration. but it will run better than before. as per my knowlege below are missing 1. If he is doing this for someone else then he is almost robing them cus there is no way this will do even 50k without major issues. Just looking at the surface of that flywheel says u a lot about his work ! I live in a 3rd world country and i know some mechanis who work exactly like him.
I have seen those pakistani truck channel's using atleast a torque wrench to do the journals but here it's just a wrench they use to do the wheel nuts 🤦.
Wow... Keren om mesin jadi bersih itu pakek cairan apa om..
you are the man. i didnt see you use a torque wrench even one time.
I love how they just dump the oil on the ground. Perfect for the environment👍

Didn’t it come out of the ground in the first place?

First time i've seen a mechanic assemble an engine without using a torque wrench. Can't say i'm amazed
The torque wrench was instaled on his muscle :)
No torque wrench is allowed that time. He used only his own hand, and eat pruuta food a lot.
Terlihat sempurna untuk awam dan pemula.
It's better you use a torque wrench to ensure that all screws are tightened properly just like what maintenance books recommend
All respect 🌹❤️
Excellent to see this video. I am a automobile engineer hats off this work
Oh ... you're so fussy.
Something missing right
@@elfernandez1850 not just a torque wrench eh? What a rubbish rebuild.
I don't have the skill to rebuild engines but those flaws made me wince. And the way he installed the rings had to scratch the pistons.
It might come as a surprise to you but rebuilding this engine, even improperly, netted this man tens of thousands of dollars. Even if it went in the trash after the camera stopped rolling it served its purpose.
@@madmanau8730 the part of the world where this channel is from this would be considered fine workmanship.... People here don't have any proper tools or knowledge...
I do appreciate how you put the pistons in and connected them to the crank shaft. I've never seen it done quite that way before.
Really appreciated seeing a 4K getting a restoration! I’ve owned two Corolla’s in my past, one with a 3K-H and another with a 4K-C. The prior mentioned motor I did an overhaul on. Very sentimental seeing this! They were great mighty little engines! Thank you so much for posting! 😁
I have to admit tho, I did exercise a certain amount of caution, precision, and proper skills performing my overhaul! Please no offense!
For the love of all that is Holy...get this man a torque wrench!!!!
Nice restoration for 4k engine beautiful good work, watching from philippines
Its not the way i do it with all my mod cons..but i think its really awesome..excellent work..thank you for posting
well if you stuck in the middle of the bush this guy probably get going working with what you have says a lot about you he doing the best he can with what he has to work with
Jon Minnella did you watch the video? Do you have any understandings of engine rebuilds? This engine is never going to run, not even crappy running
@@Mark-vn7et why? I don't understand a single thing a bout engine that's why i watch this. Do you mind explaining please? I know like the belt, piston.. that's basically it
You have done this job with extreme carelessness.
This is the engine that make Toyota global force to recognize.
There ya go! A good wash and a fresh coat of paint will make any engine run like new!!!
Awesome restoration of the engine👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👼👍👍👍👼👍
Did you follow the manual for reinstall the crankshaft, piston and engine head, you must use Torque wrenches to fasten the bolt.
eh, he hand lapped the valves, its not a Ferrari. that little thing is hardly more sophisticated or toleranced than a mower engine... i suspect itll be just fine.
torque settings are in the muscles. u know nothing about that, so dont ask questions.! :D
@@GrimesGarage you know nothing about engines clearly. Even basic automobile engines have torque specs and orders things need to be torqued especially the heads. And I have done the heads on a toyota r22

Love the Safety Flip Flops when performing engine work.

A true professional, note how he uses the lug nut spanner as a torque wrench with percision. Who needs a snap on digital .
He knows the tension in his arms his(precions acts) yes that works say 5years minimum ...he knows the job well
Good enough in a pinch.
These guys using none of the up market tools and gear make a fantastic quality job, well done.
so thats whats meant by sarcasm
say sike right now
Although difficult to watch, very impressive.
Peace absolute well Said
you be surprised but vast majority of old 70s jap cars still running in sri lanka are rebuilt just like this, most people really don't spend anything above a 1000usd on something like a ke30/ke70 corolla engine rebuild. and most of those cars still can be seen on the road, living thru harsh humid tropical weather.
Awesomely done ! 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow
Outstanding work
would be interesting to know how long the engine will last before it needs another rebuild as i see that the a lot of the major bolts where not torqued down.
Right?
Any Idea if that mini plunger and grit grease they used to refit the exhaust and intake valves would really work?
Motheo Lebelo and im pretty sure he reused head bolts but i may be wrong
I think the engine will last 1 hour and blown out😂
Well itm does have a 30 second ,thirty foot guarantee
not even checking the big end clearances... random shells on a worn crankshaft.... that will knock like a very knackered engine withing a short while. Piston ring clearances? bore honing? It might run for a while, but it won't last long for sure.
@Mason Pack but why put all that compound on? If the surfaces are ok then the gasket alone should work without needing goop to seal it.
Doesn't matter about the knocking 'cos he's going to run it on diesel anyway, 🤣🤣

The number 2 rod is backwards. All five main bearing caps are also backwards.
Could be
Now he is forever in reverse.
isn't everything backwards in the camera?
The number 2 rod is turned the right way before he adds the caps, just not on camera. You can see the hole being in the right position after a cut. But the bearing caps are all turning the wrong way. Also he is not using a torque wrench, so that motor risk falling apart. It's fun to see the engine being renovated, but I do not belive the end result is a good one here...

This engine won't run very long. No drilling or checking sleeves, no honing, no polishing of journals, checking for clearances, etc.
And just completely ignore and thought of using a torque wrench... A bit of aluminum pipe will do. PMSL...

I wish you the best of luck... But... The crankshaft looked rusted in the bearing surface, you didn't change the head bolts, you didn't use a torque wrench, you didn't follow the recommended adjustment pattern, you didn't use any threadlock in the flywheel bolts.... Let's hope that old faithful motor is very forgiving

What you don’t think she will run good? I have a kitty cat that has one 👁 an she’s done a better job than this.
Good as new and i learn how to unscrew it thankyou💙😊
Be nice to have just a bit of narration, explaining what's happening.
The K motors were terrific, and I remember my partner buying a Starlet with multi-point injection. It was hit hard on the l/h side, but it was worth repairing, and it was surprisingly grunty.
Even better the her earlier "Twin Squish" carburetor powered Starlet, and that was fairly quick for a 1300cc oushrod engine, even in stock condition.
quite ok restoration but some important parts and machine works are not include in this restoration. but it will run better than before.
as per my knowlege below are missing
1. Put new sleeves to cylinders
2. make horning marks in cylinders
3. polishing or add a sleeves to crank and cam
4. remake valve guides
5 . replace water pump
6. Repalce oil pump
7. replate clutch plate and pressure plate
8. restore carbulator
9. replace water jackets
finally he didn't use the toque wrench to tighten up the bolts
Этот двигатель будет очень хорошей подставкой для кофейного столика ))))

he doesnt even know the pattern of screwing head bolts and that iš really important
No hes not bro he clearly does not know what hes doing ive seen better mechanics that do everything by the book.He needs to do his research before decides to rebuild an engine. With that being said the engine looks good on the outside but he did a lousy job on the inside.
