  • A fairly simple, yet truly effective pattern for panfish. This was the #1 pattern during the spring of 2016. Try it in all white, yellow, black, and natural brown.
    Hook: Mustad S80-3906 size 10
    Head: Gold bead
    Tail: Glass bead glued to a tan rubber leg (bug leg)
    MS Nymph Dub, Damsel Olive
    Body: Gold Tinsel Twist
    Thorax: MS Nymph Dub, Damsel Olive
    Hot Spot: UV Ice Dub, Shrimp Pink
    Note: Use a dubbing loop to make the thorax. It gives the fly a similar look to a soft hackle, but with greater movement and durability.

    Nice little tie.....I have tied some similar to FTDs version and have yet to try them on trout.
    Keep up the good work :)

      I've used some of the FTD's original pattern on the trout stream in southern Minnesota. As trout flies they are pretty good, but they are far more effective as a panfish fly. The only thing with the original design is that the dubbed body falls apart rather quickly when chasing panfish. This version is far more durable.

    i replace the front bead with bead chain eyes and it works well also

    I deeply appreciate your skill, but we use the cheap white foam spiders with the rubber band legs in Michigan. Bluegills slam those little cheap spiders nearly every cast.

    What's the deal with the bead/bug leg tail? additional attractor or representative of an actual bug?

      Yeah, even their natural hair is at a good price.

      @davidcollins4207  7 лет назад +1

      Ive never tried the natural hair from there yet. I keep spending all my money on the synthetics

      I used synthetics all the time, but as time has move forward I'm tying on natural hairs and feathers. Best deal of feathers is to import them direct from China. You can order them by the kilogram. I like synthetics for the flash.

    How do you like the vise your using.pros/cons Thankyou

    • @davidcollins4207
      @davidcollins4207  7 лет назад

      I absolutely love my mongoose. Ive been using this vice for about 8 years now and it still works great. I love and hate the amount of adjustments that can be made to the vise. Mine is showing its age as some of the adjustment knobs now come loose during tying but overall, its a great rotary vice and would highly recommend it
