  • Testing new camera with a quick tie. Shot with Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3.
Bluegill Candy Hopper fly pattern adopted from the Hopper Juan pattern.
These are a great Panfish fly in all colors. I tie them in Greens, Tans, Browns, Oranges, Black and many other colors. All colors work great, some more than others depending on the conditions.
The fly floats all day even with a dropper, easy to tie with only 2 easily sourced materials.
    Materials Needed:
    - Size 12 Dry-Fly hook (Mistakenly called size 10 in video)
    - 2mm Craft foam
    - Rubber Legs
    - Contrasting thread
    - Superglue

Tied a couple last month, and mailed one to a buddy who has yet to fish, and I finally was able to fish today. Landed 3 quick fat bluegills and a couple misses before a fat bass decided to steal the fly thanks to my poorly tied knot. Thanks for a nice, simple fly pattern...will tie a few more tomorrow.

Just tied this and got to fish it yesterday. I can't say enough about this little hopper, it swims really well.

I've always enjoyed tying and fishing foam flies. Happy happenstance to run across this video. The technique of tying in the legs is simple and elegant. I foresee tying so many of these that I'll be giving them away. Thank you.
