    I tested the Palisade and the Telluride and this Mazda simply leaves those two in the dust in looks and performance. I never thought I would ever trade in my Yukon, but there's just something about this Mazda that changed my mind. It's a gorgeous vehicle that's also fun to drive.

    I have now owned both of these Mazdas. My 2018 CX-9 Signature ($43,500 purchased from a $48,000 MSRP) and now after a semi totaled the CX-9, I have the CX-90 Turbo S prem plus ($61,750 MSRP purchased at MSRP). Let me say that after 2 weeks ownership, the CX-90 content (features and equipment) is quite good and impressive and MIGHT, but only might, justify that stratospheric increase in cost! This is because the 2016-2023 CX-9 is SO GOOD. Even if I end up loving my new CX-90, this new SUV could never be the incredible VALUE my CX-9 Signature was. I really like looking at and driving in my CX-90 Turbo S PP.....but both me and my wife miss our beautiful Machine Gray, Auburn leather, CX-9 Signature AWD.

    I recently bought my second CX9 in 10 years. I really thought I'd buy a Pathfinder or Explorer, but the Nissan felt bigger than needed and the Ford was stupid money for less trim and similar performance. I've been really pleased with the big CX9. I never looked at the CX90 at the time - my wife thought it ugly and I got sticker shock. But recently, I took my CX9 to have a tow bar fitted by the dealer. While the work was being done they kindly lent a CX90 (the inline 6, but not the hybrid) in mid-level trim. I was surprised - it felt heavy, awkward and simply characterless. The dealer seemed less than enthusiastic too - saying the CX9 just feels "lighter on its feet". Agreed.

      Ya know I really wish people understood car architecture and drivetrains more. You’re comparing two completely different drivetrains when comparing these two vehicles. The cx90 is a better vehicle and drivetrain. Now that means it’s going to cost more. Did it need to exist no, but there’s valid valid valid reasons that it costs more for a rear drive bias drivetrain and a much more expensive engine and mild hybrid components. It’s a much better drive but again I’m not sure mazda should get rid of the cx9 as the price gap is large.
      I’m not voting for more expensive cars, I just want to see us all have more informed sounding discussions about these vehicles. I watch you all get frustrated because you speak on things with our accurate information. Be more informed, is that not the point of these types of videos?

    In Australia top trim of Mazda cx90 is around AUD$37k expensive than top trim of Cx9. Cx9 is great value car ever I’m lucky to get the final version coming this month.

    • @MrGenAiMan
      @MrGenAiMan Год назад

      Yeah but the top trim CX-9 is fairly similar to the base trim CX90 in Australia, so price difference is around 4k there, and you're getting a much better engine and mild hybrid that the CX9 doesn't have.
      The top trim CX90 adds some additional luxuries but cost blows out to over 100k

    • @trinhducdau8505
      @trinhducdau8505 Год назад

      @@MrGenAiMan that’s not correct. Top trim of cx9 is much better equipped than just base model of cx90 like no nappa leather, no sun roof, no ventilated front seat. Base-model looks very plastic and cheap, you just have a new engine with no data for reliability. I have a plan to swap to cx90 GT but can’t justify nearly $20k difference.
      I believe cx80 next year will fill the gap, but cx80 dimensions just a longer cx60.

    • @MrGenAiMan
      @MrGenAiMan Год назад +1

      @@trinhducdau8505 CX 9 has a moonroof, CX90 none on base. Ventilated seats you're right. Otherwise digital info is 10" on both, and I think digital cluster is 7" on both. Tech-wise, they are the same. CX90 base has leather but not nappa. So overall there's not that much difference. CX90 does have a new more powerful engine, better fuel consumption, a mild-hybrid for smoother ride at slow speed, an 8 gear transmission - but yes these are all new and untested, so 1st gen could have some issues. If you can wait a few years for the mid-life update, this will be a rocking car for sure. But if buying brand new today, I'm not sure it makes sense to get a CX9 top-trim to save 4k vs the CX90 base trim (Aus base trim is much higher speced than US base trim).

    Wish you would have done the 280 HP Turbo CX-90 to the CX-9. I'm curious if the 280 HP CX-90 Turbo is a significant enough upgrade. What if you use premium gas does the 280 HP increase?

    • @OtisSpringerpilot
      @OtisSpringerpilot Год назад +1

      The answer to your last ques is ....no. There is no increase in HP for the 280hp turbo motor. Mazda's own literature states that the CX-90 Turbo will "get 280hp on both regular and premium fuel". For comparison, the same literature states that the CX-90 Turbo S will get 340hp on premium fuel and 319hp using regular unleaded fuel. It is a big WIN for the Turbo S that it produces the same torque with either fuel....369 lb-ft.

    • @joecool9739
      @joecool9739 Год назад +3

      Dude youre reading it all wrong
      Its not just "280hp"
      Its 280hp coming from a center mounted straight six engine mated to an 8 speed transmission that powers a rwd-biased awd system
      That means that even if the CX9 had 280hp the CX90 would still be the sportier vehicle with better handling and better power delivery

      Lol. The only thing bad about cx90 is the shape of its back, everything better than the 9.

      @@christianx2k Yeah, it's FWD vehicle trying to look RWD. The CX-90 gets the proportions right, bulbous rear side.

    Mazda think they're slick. They're going to drop the CX 5 and CX 9 eventually. 😂

    Les deux véhicules sont moches de l'intérieur. Les écrans mal adaptés, trop courts pour la manipulation, les accélérerateurs au sol, c'est vilain ça.

    The Mazda CX 90 is way to expensive for a Mazda. It sounds like a really good car but people buy this price point for brand recognition and to show off their income to others. Driving in a 60 Thousand dollar Mazda gives buyers no ego trip or self congratulations for making enough money to buy an expensive car...Sorry Mazda,but I don't think this price point is going to work for your brand..

      Well thats the highest trim. You can get one with every feature you'd want for about 50k. Which makes it extremely competitive with literally every 3 row crossover like Tellurides, Explorers and Pilots. I agree 60k is too much for mainstream, but Mazdas materials are pushing them past mainstream. It'll definitely be a while before buyers would compare this to traditional luxury brands, and it'll take years for them to really gain the Premium title. I think they're definitely nicer than most of their competitors. This is a great step for them on their mission to move upmarket!

      @hoderharris1479 This car is clearly not for you and Mazda didn’t have you in mind when creating it. Plus there are lesser trims that are more attractive than competitors

      I think that may only be true for German brands. No body buys say an Acura for brand recognition and so it may vulnerable to products like cx-90.

      It's cheaper than a top trim Pilot or Telluride and outclasses them in engine, chassis and interior. I predict a lot of conquest sales over other mainstream brands.

      Have to agree. Have been looking for a fun driving SUV and now when I find it, it’s ridiculously expensive, bad third row seating and leg crunching backseat.

    To over priced. A Genesis GV80 it’s a better option.
