When I was a child, I was so impressed by how this game was made. I also had a very limited comprehension skills and didn’t know what was going on in the story. Far as I understood, there was a rebellion and it was my duty as a member of the Royal Legion Air Force to serve my country. I thought we were the good guys. Then came the Markovian munitions factory that made me raise an eyebrow when I had to fire on civilians. But Admiral Durant made his point when he stated the workers lost civilian status when they took up arms against the Legions and were now just casualties of war. I dismissed my concerns and continued to proudly carry out my duty to serve the Royal Legion, my country. After all, we were the good guys right? Then came mission 3 which really shook me to my core. After seeing Captain Nyman-who had just surrendered-and my beloved flight leader Vargas die on the Dominus, I was shocked and horrified. I really began questioning if we were the good guys. After this mission, I had a strong feeling of resentment towards Admiral Durant. I would continue on the story, but not without glaring at Admiral Durant. Years have passed, and now that I look back, we were not the good guys. Now that I know what was going on, I cherish those memories of being naive to the story. It really emphasized the character that we were playing: a pilot in the Royal Legion Air Force who is blindly following the orders of a terrifying and oppressive regime. With the knowledge I know now, I would have definitely conspired with Copperhead, question his loyalty, as if the conversation went well, discuss about deserting. As for my medal Admiral Durant, you can keep it and shove it up your ass.
Seriously!! Virtually the same thing happened with me, it’s crazy only realizing after so long how much of a monster Durant was. I remember it must have been 8 years ago when I first saw Vargas’ death and I was devastated by it, but didn’t put together the pieces until far far later.
Same here! Took me many years later to understand the destruction we were causing Damn, now I wish that a sequel was made where we joined the rebels (or similar anti-imperial forces) :(
So I just found out that there was a sequel (MetalStorm Aces) where you fight for Markovia... I feel embarrassed (tbf, I was talking about JOINING the Markovians and even different rebel groups, not simply being the Markovians)
This was my first iOS game back in 2012 when I found a demo version in the JB Hi-Fi store. 2 years after that I started training to be a pilot. Still going. Godspeed fellow pilots, you can all be my wingmen any time.

Just to let you know this is not the main menu soundtrack, this is the gameplay/combat soundtrack. I’m a big fan of this game and it’s sequel Aces and I’m eternally sad that we’ll never see another game like these on the App Store again. :( You will be missed Z2 Studios.

I went Metal Storm Online --> Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy --> Ace Combat titles on PS2 w/ an emulator --> currently War Thunder and Ace Combat 7. This game got me into the whole flight games scene and I'm planning on getting a proper HOTAS setup to start DCS down the line. I can't believe it all started here, nostalgia :')
Z2 has reformed under the starform interactive brand and they have revived the metalstorm game. However I must caution that this game and the original are nothing alike but the new one is MUCH better in the sense that it does not cater towards P2W. Skill and patience in choosing your targets are what matters. That and good teammates.

There’s only 2, this and the main menu. Compared to Aces where it had 5, 1 main menu, General combat, boss/pvp, intro, and mission status screen after completing a level.
