As a new 88' NA Supra owner I can say this body roll is very real lol. I'm thinking about getting some aftermarket swaybars put on and MAYBE coilovers too.
Other than that it's pretty much the coolest car I've ever seen or owned.
It looks absolutely stunning from the outside and inside IMO is better than the vast majority of cars new or old. The seats are legendary. This baby turns heads.

Love the classic Motorweeks, when cars had their OWN unique styling... Unlike, the plasticy clone jelly beans of today.
Back when Toyota was a FUN energetic company who produced cars drivers WANTED... Back in 86, they had this gen Supra, the Celica GTS, the 1st gen MR2, and the last of the RWD Corollas... The Corolla GTS(ae86).
What the heck happened, Toyota?? Now, you make boring, geriatric cars for old farts. Not ONE sporty coupe in Toyotas new lineup. Pathetic.

boofdfast In 1985 they made the last solid front axle pickup trucks sold in America, yet the rest of the world bought them until like 2002.
Thanks to Americans preferences we have had limited options on some vehicles. Today you can't find any more "mini" trucks like the 80's S10's, Rangers, and Toyotas. I miss those days, when you could pop open the hood & actually see pavement below the car through the engine compartment.... instead of just.... plastic.

The 3rd gen Supra that you really want was only made in Japan, but you can now legally import it. 1991 Supra 2.5 R, had the twin turbo 1JZ-GTE engine under the hood, made "276" hp. Its bascially a 2.5 liter displacement version of the 3.0 liter 2JZ-GTE in the Mark IV Supra. You can use all the same hot-rodding tricks and parts to make huge horsepower.

The A70 is a GT car, not a pure sports car and it's a heavy one with high tech environment and amenities ahead of it's time. Nothing is perfect. But still is the most successful Supra model ever made according sale numbers!
If it was available in the JZA70 trim model outside Japan it would have blown away the competition back in 1990 across USA and Europe.
A stock mk3 Supra just needs some coil overs and wheels. Same for the mk2! But the mk4 needs a lot more regarding looks.

I didn't know about the extra radio antenna below the defogger on the hatch glass. I learned something after 23 years of driving a 1987 Turbo. Turbo cars came with ABS brakes. 0 to 60 is 6.5 seconds. It's overweight to be a nimble sports car. It's more about balanced style and performance than all out performance. I have the C's short shifter from Japan. Cost $250. I also have the Super monitor which was a $250 option over the stock clock. Many functions like fuel economy mpg, trip timers, when to change the oil. It was discontinued after 1988.

I miss the days of seeing Supras new on the road! I started driving in the 90s and I miss those days. Todays Toyota/Honda companies make nothing more than dull econo snooze boxes. I know this was the 80s but man, the supra were just wow as a young kid back then! Those fun car companies make nothing to wow over anymore. Sad. Oh did you see that badass corolla? ROFL yah right.

For me the Supra MKIII ist one of the three most beautilful cars ever, together with the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes 300 SL gullwing.

My cousin bought one of these (new). He had the naturally-aspirated model that, if I remember correctly, still generated 200 HP. The Turbo made 230 (which was astounding back then!). I thought it was the coolest car in the world. But, by today's standards, it's funny to see how much body-roll and plow a car could develop (in the 80s) and STILL be considered a good handler.

Amazing how far we’ve come … to where my normally aspirated 2.5l 4cyl 4wd RAV4 has more bhp, weighs less, gets better gas mileage by far, and beats the supra soundly 0-60mph. I loved that supra but modern technology is a great thing.

When I was 18, in 2000, I bought a used 1987 Supra Turbo, Liked it so much I got a 2nd one. Sold them when I had my son. Now I only go for Toyotas, best reliability & I can work on them myself.
    Currently working on a 1994 Celica gt and a 1985 4runner SR5
I can't recommend them enough, I've owned 29 cars in my lifetime & have had almost every make. So I've owned more than 1 brand of vehicle in my life. Hell, my 2nd car at 16 was a 1979 Camaro, then I had a 1979 Trans Am, a 1985 Monte Carlo SS, and a 1977 Trans Am before getting my 1st Supra.

Seems like the shocks are way too soft with all that bouncing, but the geometry is there. Even when it looks like it's going to it never lets go.

    • @rushnerd
      @rushnerd 2 года назад +1

The shocks are actually extremely nice, but yes way too soft. Once you put modern quality coilovers in and a nice front swaybar, it's a completely different car. Zero body roll and is a complete blast to drive.

My neighbor had the Celica Supra, 84's I think. They were all stick and and fun to drive. He always bought these cars and drove them until they rusted out. He'd go to California or Az and find another 1 to replace the rusty 1's...

Adam Trombino I had an 85 celica gts, it wasn't a Supra but it was a fun car to drive, then it rusted out everywhere. I had an 86 celica gt, it was super clean and never rusted but it was not as fun.

That's what I've heard from virtually every MKIII owner that has let one go haha. After owning one for a year now I can 100% see why now, it's just indescribably well made and fun to drive. You should see if you can pick one up soon before they inflate in value even more than they have in the last few years.

Ok, got one with 20k miles? I' lltake it!! I use to work at Honda Dealership, They got one of these Supras in, an 87 model, I use to sit in it & imagine it being mine. But IO also did that with the Conquest Tsi, the Iroc & The Mustang 5.0 too as well as the new 88 Prelude Si's too haha. I loved being able to test drive any car on the lot new or used.
