  • Jeff decides males are the superior sex and gets his friends to join him in proving that to the girls. Donna disapproves and enjoys seeing the young women make the boys see the errors of their ways, Jeff most of all.

The Donna Reed show touched on so many issues of the day she was a ground breaker. Donna Reed was a beautiful 💜 person and Paul Petersen like wise.

Reed had a pretty good film career. What happened?
Doing TV was not what film actors wanted to do usually.

@@yvonneplant9434 Donna Reed passed away during the filming or after the filming of Dallas, I think from cancer.

I'm hoping for Seasons 6, 7, and 8 to get a DVD release sometime, but it seems unlikely after all this time.

Scotty (Jimmy Hawkins) was originally on the series as a boyfriend of Mary. When Shelly Fabres left the series, they made Scotty Jeff's friend.

Simple + better times. I love Donna + Carl + Jeff + Shelley!!! What a cast! Love this show so much. Found it during COVID. Watched all the way through season 8. I think there is another season. I’m keeping my eyes peeled. I still think Jeff’s girlfriend should have been Angie. I don’t know why they had her play a new character. She is beautiful!! She also paid Lucy’s daughter in Here comes Lucy. Angie was Jeff’s first girlfriend + she played the new girl in school. I wonder if anyone else noticed it.

I agree, I don't know why they created Bebe for Candy Moore, when she was Angie in the earlier seasons and was Jeff's girlfriend then. Also, Jimmy Hawkins (Scotty) stayed on the series after Mary (Shelley Fabres) left but was now Jeff's friend along with Smitty. By the way, this was the last season. The series ended in 1966 which I believe was Season 8.

This is from 1966. If it lasted another season, they would have started filming this in color. Same with The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Munsters, and The Addams Family to name a few that ended that year in B & W.

The times were neither simpler nor better. This is a total fantasy that masked the cultural upheavals that were roiling the country. Prettified, to help viewers feel better. As an 11-yr-old growing up on this stuff, it gave me a totally false idea of what “ideal” family life was, yet what most families never were. Reminder: in 1965-66, a married woman couldn’t get a credit card in her own name, without her husband’s approval and signature on the application. Married women were rarely listed under their own name in news items or government listings; they were only “Mrs. [husband’s first and last names].” These were the bad old days, dressed up with fake smiles and packaged for a gullible public. Notice how, in this episode, the college women had to pretend and manipulate, rather than have a straightforward discussion and conversation with the guys? But this whole episode was done cynically, with a wink and a nudge, because instead of making a point about women and men being equal, it played up stereotypes of both: men as easily hoodwinked idiots, and women as charming schemers; and both groups trying to one-up each other. Nauseating. But a good history lesson.

Gentler times. When men were men and women were ladies. And could rely on being treated like one if they acted like one. And not a single tattoo in sight. YAY for femininity and beautiful strong men.

You know, I was born in 1999. I see media like this and I get sad. Even as something meant to make you laugh, I have to ask how it became so normal to laugh at the mind virus of feminism, simps, and the stupid responses to feminism that failed to cure it.
Reminds me of how the Barbie Movie botched this too. Hollywood has been corrupted for a lot time, haven't they?

Which part? Deborah's reaction was the dumbest part for me. Why is she putting up with any of it. The second he told me I wasn't allowed to order for myself I'd have just got up and left. She wants to be a hot shot feminist and talk about female oppression but when Jeff ACTUALLY oppresses her she just sits at the table and pouts.
