    As a chemist, I can tell you that your safety rules for lye are pretty much standard operating procedure for laboratories and are excellent. The only thing I would recommend is that metal lye storage containers not be sealed tightly until the solution has cooled, otherwise the pressure buildup due to the reaction heat might cause trouble. The plastic containers can expand enough to compensate. 👍👩🏼‍🔬

    • @RoyaltySoaps
      @RoyaltySoaps  4 года назад +177

      Absolutely! Our solutions never reach over 105 degrees so this isn't a problem for me personally but for folks that don't prep with ice, they need to follow this advice!

    Almost 7 years ago, I came across a RUclips channel of a young lady making soap, as I was trying to figure out how to best way to help my family members who were dealing with some pretty irritating skin issues. (Mainly, my three year old granddaughter, at the time.) This young lady put me at ease, as I watched and listened to her. I was so scared, in my mid-40s, to even go *near* lye, let alone work with it, so I started playing with Melt & Pour. But watching this young lady, who referred to herself as "The Duchess of Suds", have a guest in a video, she referred to as "The Queen", which was her Mom, Bonnie, I began to feel more and more at ease, as I connected more and more with the lovely woman I've come to adore and know as Katie! Here I am, almost 7 years later, running my own bath & body business, pouring candles and wax melts, and learning new things *still* watching this now married Mommy! Thank you Katie!!

    Idk if another chemist has already pointed this out, but these safety procedures are amazing, and the gold standard for any lab! You didn’t mention it in the video, but I really appreciate that your shoes weren’t running shoes with mesh; running shoes are designed to breathe, and it doesn’t give you enough time to remove your shoe before the lye can get to your feet.

    Hey there lovely peoples. I have paused this video at 3:00 minutes because I totally and absolutely completely lost my already tenuous ability to concentrate - Con-cen-trate -
    Watching Ms Katie’s academy award winning performance regarding the similitude of first time driving and first time soap making .....well...my brain kinda imploded. I was laughing so hard, especially the post reversing “thumbs up” face. Man, I’m still giggling 🤭 now.
    If Lye safety wasn’t so important (AND IT IS PEOPLE), then I could imagine you doing the video entirely in the “style” of a late night, “As Seen on TV” infomercial - but wait, there’s more.
    Thank you for these videos, I am just starting my own soap journey, and I’m just a little bit excited 😜. I’m slowly acquiring the necessary equipment, taking my first steps on the path that you have defined and made clear for me and everyone else. But hey, I’m getting distracted - I just wanted to say that....Girl, you really made me laugh so thanks for that. Big love to you and yours, from me, Eve, in Newtown, Sydney Australia 🇦🇺🐿.
