10:10 was probably one of the greatest moments in bboy history for me,,,and I've been watching and doing breakdancing since 1983...This battle from back in the day when breakdancing battles were what they should be,,,2 crews with ultimate respect for each other with one man trying to better the previous move,,,none of this 1 crew 15 moves bollocks before letting the other crew have a turn,,not giving eachother space on the floor,,,not to mention the cut throat, move biting and slamming gestures and little to no respect to eachother or the dance form that people were doing probably way before they were even born,,,
I’m so glad that I got to practice with Phase 2 back in my youth. I’ve watched this tape (vhs) so many times. I’m so grateful to have been able to meet Mr. Do, Wicked and Javier.
"Look at his face Kelly, that's real dancing" :P Yeah but i got your point. Today bboys are mostly generic in my mind. And those have cool attitude and great dynamics :D
I have been watching videos of bboys for more than 18 years from all eras, I also dance a little (I have the feeling that I never taught everything I know, I learned it on my own) I am now 34 years old and I have seen almost all the competitions. I have seen thousands of movements, I have learned to know about statistics and I have learned to value the good movements, the bad ones, and the revolutionary ones. I'm not a professional bboy but if there were specialized bboy press I would be a great specialized journalist, I've seen all the recorded times, thousands of battles. I love it, this has a special mix of sport, challenge, bravado, street and technique that nothing else has. Of the classics I would keep these 3 CRUMBS, IVAN AND K-MEL. All 3 were way ahead of their time in their own way, and their legacy and movements carry through to the present day. From 2003 to today, I think these 4 PHYSICX, MACHINE, HONG 10 AND LILOU have marked a reference. Each one has contributed something to the break, they are very different, they all have impossible movements, originality, personality. For me PHYSICX is the best bboy in history, what he did in the years that he was good was incredible, totally inspiring, a monstrosity, a pity the injury he had that separated him from day to night
And then Gombi came back a year later doing tombstones to headspin drills while slowing them down and drilling them multiple times against Rock Force Crew who had Iron Monkey and Miah already doing multiple airtracks. Classic !
Some US Bboys as Kujo,Pablo and few others whose their names can't recall were perfoming airflares since 1997. At a freestyle session which took place around 1999 in Cali, already many bboys were executing perfectly multiple air flares.
Ideas of "best ever" are always gonna be subjective and debatable, but you won't hear me saying you're wrong.. Think I probably saw this tape first in 99 or 2000, it did the rounds hey? And yeah, even though I understood the dance as a whole very little then (and debatebly still very little now) he definitely shone.
Best part at 10:41. Respect. Those two guys actually kinda became friends and Gumby and another guy from SLS went out to visit K-Mel in the Bronx for a bit. Gumby said "We were the only white people there!"

@@sincityj9423 Hi there! That's a little known fact, the Full Circle thing. Do you know who else was included in Full Circle besides these two? I've always wanted to know what other crews were down.

Dude in white, umm skivvy? for Phaze 2.. Fuckin SICK! How's that classic top rock steez? 6:50 to 7:02. Were I curator of the world bboy museum that'd be on loop in the lobby. First thing you saw. This = bboying. (Okay, I'm maybe getting a LITTLE carried away, but there's a guy who respects the music... and knows how to swing to it.. Those kinda, classic, syncopated top rock whatevers.. Ya know, not 2 and 4.. or.. whatever.. not STRAIGHT.. those subtle hits on the off beat and what not.. It's just a fucking thing of beauty... Good use of the music trumps everything else in bboying and forever will.. (well.. you gotta have that steez of course, which that fucker has in spades)
+Treefern Forrest Hey, what's up dude? That's bboy Wicked. He unfortunately doesn't dance anymore, he was diagnosed with cancer some years back. I haven't talked to anyone from Chi for quite some years, so I'm out of the loop on how that went.
Nick Price I knew he was alive, however there used to be a battle with him and Shamrock against 2 other Chi bboys that they called his "last battle" right before he got treated apparently. I never said he was dead.
One of the best battles is 98, in my opinion, both in terms of music and dancing. It's a pity that the sound range is shifted, for this reason it is not so impressive, for example, the Japanese show and everything else.
I've collected almost the entire playlist from this battle. pls add what's missing Newcleus - I Wanna Be A B-Boy Chad Jackson - Hear The Drummer Get Wicked Zeb Roc Ski - Prepare for the Battle Remix Stetsasonic Talkin' All That Jazz Torti's Bonus Breaks King Bee - Cold Slammin'
Sometimes I wonder how those bboys from 98' would react like if we threw in today's top bboy to bust some crazy unimaginably possible(for that era) power moves on them
This is only one battle. Crews were still pointing screaming and hating back then. It just so happens these 2 crews are really cool with eachother so none of that is goin on.

Look at both sides. No pointing, no screaming or hating. Just doing their thing, giving respect and what.. DANCING! Thats what i like about bboying. But not how it has become now..
