Thank you for saying it’s okay to throw things away if we’re struggling physically/mentally and know getting to donate them will be a huge barrier. I’ve been suffering loads of guilt over that and it’s prevented me from doing a lot. Definitely needed to hear that.

Same here, I appreciated that part so much and it's also been a barrier for me. This was really helpful ❤

So relevant. I am guilty of personally believing I can save the world by fixing everything that is going to landfill. I have come to the realisation that EVEN if that was true I have so much stuff to fix that there is no room to fix it anyway and I can't find the things I need to fix it. I now just give myself random number goals to fill. 5 things to fix (try to do it quickly), three things to get rid of right now. Do it fast before the energy runs out.

I found your blog about 8 years ago and it has been life changing. I am so grateful to you for pulling me out of a slump and showing me a path forward from dug in mess to a finally clean home. Your ebook and 30 day system were instrumental in transforming my space but also my mental health. I always come back to your website for advice and inspiration. Thank you 💕

I loved this video, i am just moving in with my boyfriend and it seems like we have so much stuff, it’s overwhelming and stressful, but i feel more motivated and in the same step forgiving with myself to just get started rather than trying to make it perfect. Thank you

Thank you Katie, everything you say makes sense and hopefully I can now galvanize myself to declutter. Every time I think of tidying up its the decisions that glue me to the spot xx

I absolutely needed to hear this today, thank you so much... from the bottom of my heart. ❤💕 I instantly thought of several items I wanted to throw away because they're too dirty for charity but I was told to give it to them anyway. I'm going to throw them away right now and move on. This had me stuck and I'm a recovering hoarder. So, again...thank you. ❤

I love the way you describe it as being stuck. That’s exactly it! Glad to have helped you get unstuck. There are great things waiting for you. ❤️

Love this. And I'd say that even if you didn't have Fred Sanford in it! Nicely done and glad to have found the channel. I smashed the like button, subscribed and even rang the bell.

I get stuck with moving things on thinking I need to sell it but I hate selling stuff. 😮. Thanks for the reminder about mental health. How much does an hour of therapy go these days?? “At what price therapy” is my new byline.

I feel like you spoke to me directly about having mental health issues and being allowed to flex the made-up rules we impose on ourselves and label ourselves as wasters, non-carers about the environment, bad people. My problem is that the mental health issues I have made money more difficult to make and the pandemic inflation applies to everything that I need to buy, so I tend to narrow down my options to 1) sell, or 2) donate. If it's not exactly worth my time/energy to post online and arrange pick-ups, then it goes to the local thrift store "charity". I only throw things away if they're not in good condition and not salvageable, or gross, or simply garbage. I think anything can be another person's treasure or collection item. Also, we have a limit of how many garbage bags we can put out ,and pick up is only every 2 weeks. Is it OK to give myself permission to donate things of low value (for example McDonald's kids toys/books/games) as a rule instead of throwing it out? (I know you're not the authority on what is OK or not for me to do, but I'd appreciate your opinion on this alternative option to the one you shared.) Thank you!

You are absolutely right about rejecting the made up rules. Don’t let them limit you! As far as the McD’s toys and things that aren’t worth your time/energy to sell, try to understand that makes them not worth the thrift store’s time and energy, too. But remember what I said about Freecycle and the Buy Nothing groups: you can list them then leave the bag on your step so you don’t have to arrange pickup. And if that’s a hassle, then go ahead and throw the things out if you’re trying to declutter. You don’t owe anything space in your home.
