Not all Light Pets are created equal
Dude I was watching this at night and you super flashbanged me at 2:00
Same! The ultimate light pet.
i wasn't ready for that either
omg me too
Same
Same
The shadow orb is as bright as my future
iam14andthisisdeep
reasonable for the stage at which you find it?
Your future is 55% brighter than a teleporter
Same
If you focus on what you wanna do and practice so you can get a job you like your future is likely to be bright
I always thought that the crimson heart was better than the shadow orb, the heart is able to keep up with you while you are running
Yeah but it’s also annoying due to it bouncing behind you meaning the light in front of the character is always going to be really dim.
It's better than the orb because the orb won't teleport to you if you get to far away, meaning you have to wait ages for it to slowly get to you, the heart will speed up and teleport to you
@@steffanlewis1954 but it will teleport, bruh
@@marsdriver2501 only if you resuming it though, which is tedius and not how it acts on its own
@@steffanlewis1954 It's always teleported for me when it's gotten too far away.
it’s weird to me that the wisp in a bottle which is a post plantera item has the same light level as the suspicious looking tentacle which you can only get by defeating the moon lord on expert mode
That's probably because of the Suspicious Looking Tentacle's ability to highlight ores and treasure. So far, the Magic Lantern is the only other light pet to have that ability, but the Lantern's level of brightness is about the same as the Shadow Orb/Crimson Heart. In another words, the Tentacle is a 2-in-1 deal that allows you to have the Wisp and the Lantern combined in one light pet.
Oh, and that plus the whole bragging rights stuff.
@@rodrigot.tavares5344 My issue with this light pet is that post-moon lord you really aren't gonna be digging around your world for treasure anymore, and even if you were, getting plenty of spelunker potions is easy at that point. The tentacle is cuter tho, so there's that
@@adamlindstrom5750 Maybe, but its also super useful for mods, such as calamity, where post moonlord has plenty to do
I honestly prefer the tentacle than wisp in a bottle, mainly cause the tentacle pet is easier to control.
They should add vanity slots to light pets where the light level of the main pet (and maybe color too?) is given to the vanity pet
Better yet, make it so dyes affect the light from light pets (if they don't already do that)
Or just make luminant dyes that make any item give off a cosmetic glow
Even though the shadow orb and crimson heart are pretty garbage, they’re still very accessible light pets and is amazing for the don’t starve and everything seeds. Any light pet will protect you permanently from Charlie and these two are fantastic for dealing with it in prehardmode even if they look pretty terrible. With light being in such abundance you’d be surprised at how easy it is to forget darkness will demolish you.
The Cursed Sapling Pet can also emit light even though it is not considered a light pet, this helps me in finding ores and enemies because the light it emits is around the player and is yellow BUT it only emits light when it is flying but sometimes when you are on the ground it can still go around the player and emit light and the radius of the light is pretty good for going underground like for finding loot and you can get this by doing pumpkin moon events which means you can have 2 light pets (kinda)
It's worth it if you need more light when exploring, and you can make it light up the place by falling and then hook to a wall or just by flying.
also does the funny spin
Cursed sapling?
The mushroom pet you can buy from the mushroom NPC also gives off light
Another light-emitting non-light pet is the Volt Bunny, though it really only emits light when it's chasing after you.
The same with the shadow mimic pet when it's flying
didnt even mention how the magic lantern has an effect similar to the spelunker glowstick, obviously that makes it as good as the post planterra light pets
Wisp in a bottle is hands down my favorite light pet in the entire game.
Mine is Fairy Princess. I like carrying a little version of my favorite boss on my back.
Magic Lantern is my favorite, just because it's an infinite mini spelunking potion
the eye also does that, though for the stage in the game you get it the eye is pretty useless
@@Pihsrosnec I'm doing a master mode playthrough rn where I'm taking my time and not rushing like I usually do, and the lantern is my best friend rn when spelunking
1:32 Oh, I love sodium lamps in the winter. Such a nostalgic look at night when me and my dad would walk our streets at night after a big snowfall. It was really rare for it to actually snow, but when it did it was amazing!
Crimson Heart isn't strictly worse than the Shadow Orb, as it does keep up with the player better
Unfortunately, it still looks worse so shadow orb is better
Shadow orb got heavily buffed in 1.4.4; it keeps up better, is a little faster, and can be controlled now
@@eShears you could control it since before the update
@@eShears Currently doing a 1.4.4 run, it still does not keep up as well as the crimson one, and you have always been able to control it.
The Crimson Heart looks so freakin cool, I dunno why people don’t use it
@@SonicMaster519 it looks like a walking ass
You forgot to mention: The Truffle pet isn’t considered a light pet, but it emits light comparable to one and is essentially a light pet for another slot. You can basically have 2 light pets at once if you use it.
i always thought the crimson heart was batter because of its design and how much faster it was than the orb, had no idea the orb could even be controlled because of how slow it is
I always felt like the wisp was kinda bad, because you use the movement keys to control it, so it always ends up inside the walls of caves and doesn't light up the room as well. it's a useful feature when you want to see inside walls, but annoying the rest of time
In this video I learned that the light pets can be controlled
its pretty janky, they just move in the direction youre pressing (wasd) and feel strange to control
Am I the only one who crafts fairy bell as one of the first item to craft after entering hardmode? Light Source is life.
Never crafted it but I’m playing get fixed boi and need to replace the light accessory soon.
i don't normally use it, but in the everything seed i actually did make it to prevent taking random damage from being in the dark too long
@@HdJnW I literally died 3 times to a normal bee during fixedboi seed legendary run with my friends, Just because of not having a light pet, I sometimes triggered the Queen Bee while killing some monsters.
My future is as bright as a magic lantern ( a light pet sold by skeleton trader in the underground, its really dim and the obly thing it is good for is that it highlights ores and other types of treasures )
imo wisp is best because it has the best dye options. i like the negative dye, but there are also some that make it invisible which is cool
Don’t forget that the wisp can light stuff up even when inside a block, unlike a certain pumpkin
Funny thing is i still use Crimson Heart in my current Melee Playthro. so to me is not a bad pet is just there until i get a wisp in a bottle.
terrasteel is slowly turning into a moth
For me, I always pick the crimson heart over the shadow orb because of mobility. Even though both suck, I find that the shadow orb usually doesn't even light anything up at all because it just can't keep up with my movement.
I always use the shadow orb in early game, don't know why the colour is a big deal, just use dye my guy. Bright silver or negative will do the trick, you can't argue that it's not better than nothing.
Another thing i consider fairly important for light pets is their ability to keep up with the player which is why i prefer the flickerwick far more than any other light pet on the same tier of brightness
this is precisely why the Flickerwick, Fairy Princess, and Suspicious Looking Eye are the best light pets. Wisp is more annoying, often ending up inside of blocks while you are moving
I love the crimson heart, it’s so cute
is it cute because its cute... or...
@@sunlightmarc it's cuz you can see it putting its heart out and trying its best
You can use shadow orb with a dye, if you somehow get one on that stage of the game tho
You're going to hurt the shadow orb's feelings He's trying his best.
The hidden function of fairy princess that only man of culture knows
they should make a light pet that is a soul of light.
I wont leave my bouncing heart buddy behind
Seeing terraria content with actual audio and not just text on the screen always makes me happy
The crimson heart really helped me playing the constant seed.
My favorite is the Suspicious-Looking Tentacle; mainly because I'm visually impaired, so most other light pets either don't give off enough light or the light is too hard to look at because of the color.
This is suprisingly interesting! Thanks for this!
I actually did not know the wisp in the bottle or shadow orb could be controlled, you teach us something new every upload ig.
im gonna use this as an inspiration on why not all people are made equal
I always preferred the Shadow Orb because the light was more consistent and it would stay with you better in caves where I actually wanted more light.
My light pet is discord light mode.
I know he isn't the best but the little pumpking is too cute for me not to use
I love the fact that you can just "browse" the terreria wiki for fun
Christ almighty I got flash-banged at 2:00
My eyes hurt, good video, would watch again 10/10
You can also abuse the ai of the Cursed Sapling pet, which gives of light and circles the player if it can't stand on anything. It can help reveal caves and ores in a pretty large radius around you. If you don't care about the regular pet's appearance, this is one of few that actually gives a benifit to the player (chester is another)
Faxs
Suspicious looking tentacles is the best overall due to the fact it has both higher brightness, and still emits desame brightness even at blocks.
Unlike empress of light pets and the wisp in a bottle
I’m a huge fan of the crimson heart. I got one in my very first playthrough before I knew much about the game and his light was a godsend so he’ll always have a place in my, heh, heart.
I actually prefer crimson heart over shadow orb. Shadow Orb is so ungodly slow, by the time it reaches you and you can see a bit you got killed twice already.
even so... will never stop using me wisp and pumpking ones
Honestly, I really like the Shadow Orb (and to a lesser extent, Crimson Heart) at the time you get it because usually by then I'm still trying to explore caves and light up where I've been so i don't explore the same areas twice.
The dim and, more importantly, COLOURED lighting of these light pets make them not overlap with torches much, making it easy to see where I need to place torches even when in a darker area, yet it's just enough light to get by if i end up in complete darkness somehow.
I often find myself switching off the other light pets when exploring, but not these two.
(Also as an oldbie I can dye the Shadow Orb orange for Nostalgia Points)
Bro rly dissed my boi crimson heart like that 💀😭 i grew attached to it ok
Oh how convenient i was just wondering what the best light pet yesterday
I have for years and years stuck to the wisp for light pet. Once I can get my hands on it it's the first thing I get almost always and I keep it the entire way. Even if I could/can get a better one I wouldn't
All light pets are equal. But some are more equal than others.
You can color light pets & there light with diy. Which can make them brighter.
I just rely on shine potions until I get the wisp. I usually keep using shines after I get a wisp as well, and always use night vision with them
bro you dont drink shine potions 24/7
theres an item in the steam workshop that improves tooltips and tells you how bright the pets will be in addition to a lott of specific info for 'inproved stats'
and then we have charlie
so you need a light pet that gives you light
so you dont die
In conclusion: You really hate the crimson heart ig.
the flickerwick is the only reason to try the old one's army event.
yes
nice pfp
i never thought i'd hear anyone refuse to use the Shadow Orb because of the lightning colour, of all things.
i always equip it cuz why not lol
I DIDNT EVEN KNOW YOU COULD CONTROL THE SHADOW ORB
the master mode light pets have a huge disadvantage with not being able to produce their light through walls like the other ones can
“Last Game Light Pets”
* golem light pet before Wisp *
Too many things can't be better than some things. If everything is going to be better than the other (Crimson > Corruption), then there's gotta be that one thing that uno reverses it for its case (Heart < Orb).
The Constant and GetFixedBoi seeds: *exist*
Light Pet usage: 📈
I miss the old Orb of Light, but it never made sense to begin with.
Edit: WTF it used to have 100% light intensity and was faster in 1.0!
The second I get the wisp I stop trying for better ones
thanks for the flashbang at 2:00
I only use the crimson heart or the shadow orb to use less torches but now there's an accessory that also makes you glow that came with the don't starve crossover so there even more useless then before. Tho idk the chances of finding the accessory or how I found it in particular tho chances can't be to high cuz I haven't played the constant or similar seeds yet
I swear pumpkin candle is brighter than wisp, i even screenshotted it and saw a big difference
Spooky twig somehow good for lightning cave when flying and doing circle.
They are all equal, but some are more equal than others
I dont remember the dye I use but you can make the whisp almost invisible and still have it brightness
What irks me the most is that wisp in a bottle keeps moving and when you're in a tight area where you probably need light the most, its inside blocks so you don't get any light
I always thought the eol pet was brighter than the wisp, that's why I replaced it
Wait... the shadow orb can be controlled? I've used it quite a lot of times since it's typically the first light pet I get. I never noticed that you could control it, I think I probably just don't tend to pay much attention to it.
THAMKS FOR NUKING MY EYES AT 2:01
I don’t know if this is intentional but the music in the background sounds very reminiscent of that one line in SCals theme
I always just go for the wisp in a bottle
Wisp dye provides the equality that they all deserve.
wisp in a bottle is the OG and it's still arguably the best one
1:58 Was a god damn flashbang. You can't just go from Terraria nightime to a full white screen :(
counterpoint for crimson heart being better than shadow orb: IT FOLLOWS YOU SO MUCH FASTER. I DONT GOT 5 YEARS TO WAIT FOR THE SHADOW ORB TO GET TO ME FOR LIGHT
Magic Lantern my beloved.
If I remember right, the fairy princess is pretty good at keeping up with the player
I argue that "can be controlled" is a DEBUFF because the instant you toss your pet into a wall, you can't see anymore with it.
I remember when they were. RIP purple orby friend.
Just shimmer this heart
Nice video
Yeah, but the crimson heart is great if you uh... get lonely.
??
@@thebaseandtriflingcreature174 What happens in the caverns stays in the caverns.
xD
You can color the pets and they will emit a different light.
One time I got shadow orb and then somehow never got any other light pet until the wisp. I was kinda sad to put the shadow orb away for the wisp in a bottle.
You can change the colors of light with dyes!
All light pets are equal, but some are more equal than others
Huh I'm just now using the pumpkin scented candle and it seemed a little dim but I haven't yet gotten a wisp in a bottle to compare and assumed that a master-mode drop from a post-post-Plantera-dungeon event must naturally be better than a drop from the post-Plantera-dungeon. Really weird that they made it worse.
I just had white lighting set as default and I never changed it
The dye user not caring what color light their base pet gives off
I always play corruption first and foremost for the shadow orb because I love the purple shade. Preferences.
i never actually knew that the suspicious eye looked at treasures 💀💀💀💀
Today I learned that some light pets can be controlled....
