    Hi Kyle. I hope everyone is safe and sound today. I live in western North Carolina myself and the whole area is just a mess. It's so heartbreaking and sad. Thanks for the information about how you can help. And thank you for the interview with Michael! I watched his AT journey so it's so good to see him on your show and hear his thoughts.

    So glad that you had Michael on your channel. I followed him, and Leo, from his prep videos right through his summit and beyond and recognized very early on that this guy was no joke and he was definitely going to finish his hike. He is one of the few guys that when he sets his mind to a goal or says he will do something, barring injury or illness, you can consider it done. That trait is becoming so rare these days and it’s refreshing to find someone who exemplifies that characteristic. And yes, Michael did respond to every comment; I sent him several while he was on his journey and got a positive response to each one. I even asked him about some of the gear he was using while he was hiking and he responded with his opinion on that item. I’m looking forward to continuing to follow Michael on his channel in whatever adventures he decides to pursue. Thank you Kyle and good luck Michael.

    It's absolutely heartbreaking to see the damage that's been done to the areas I've loved hiking and camping in for many years. As someone who lived through Michael in 2018 in Florida the two organizations I saw firsthand in hurricane response were the Cajun Navy and Convoy of Hope. Both are a great group of people who are genuinely involved and committed to helping the communities affected by natural disasters. If you're looking to give that's where I would start.

You always crack me up when you just come out and say things that we all are thinking but maybe afraid to say. Your honesty and integrity along with your sense of humor are AWESOME!! I hope if you are at trail days in May I can meet you and say hi!!😊🥰🥾🏕️🫶

    I did the triple crown with my service dog, and just got off the PCT with my service dog again yesterday. Luckily we trained prior to setting off on the longer thru hikes. But the logistics involved, i wasn't prepared for, but it definitely becomes their hike and everything revolves around their needs. Is it nice to have the companionship? Absolutely. Does it complicate and lessen your chances of being successful? Also yes. I couldn't do the hikes i do without my dog. I found out i had cancer while doing my triple crown. Hiking has kept me going and I'm grateful to be able to take advantage of the down time. I owe it all to my dog. 🥰

    The reality is the trail itself is most likely facing intensive repair from blow downs and erosion... it may take a lot of rerouting for many years to come in the flooded areas. Without the trail towns the AT may face having to permanently change the trail route. it's why Tara Dower's new FKT may stick forever..

    120 days is crazy! But I have met people who have done it. Met quite a few who did it between 140-150 days. My AT hike took me 225 days. I started on Saturday, March 3rd. That's when I hiked the approach to Springer Mountain. Then I summited Katahdin on Saturday, October 13th, 2012. So altogether 225 days. Or 7 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days (or 7 months, 2 weeks, and 1 day, depending on how you're counting.)
    I didn't really push myself tho to get the miles in. I took my time, and the only thing I was really concerned about was summitting Katahdin before the 15th of October. Everyone just seemed like they were in such a hurry, and trying so hard to as many miles as they possibly could, and in some ways it kind of felt like a competition. Everyone hikes their own hike, and that just wasn't the kind of hike I wanted mine to be. I was out there just to enjoy being out there, and I took my time and did exactly that. There were evenings as the sun was going down and I was sitting by my tent eating dinner and thinking, "This is a really cool spot, and looks like a really cool area to hang out.." And I would decide to take a zero at that spot..sleep in a bit..put my recurve takedown bow together, and do some stump shooting while exploring the area (Yes, I brought my bow with me, which broke down info 3 pieces, and packed away easily, taking up very little space, and 12 arrows..one which I broke, and another which I lost..which packed away in a plastic tube that I could easily tie the side of my pack. For me, it's an essential item, and I refuse to not take it, and refuse go that long without shooting. Because of that, my trail name is "Archer").
    But anyway, I was there to hike and enjoy the wilderness, and was in no hurry. So my AT hike was a long 225 days. The last 5-6 weeks or so I did start to pick up the pace quite a bit tho, because I did need to make sure that I made the Katahdin summit on time. But overall, I'm very happy that I took my time and made the most of my time on the trail.

    Hi Kyle,
    I’m not a thru hiker yet. But, miles wise, I’ve walked enough to walk almost around the world. Which brings me to one comment, I follow Tom Turcich. He had his seven-year journey around the world with his dog, Savannah. So, yes, I thru hiking is very rare with a dog, but it is possible. Other than that, thanks for this episode. I appreciate it very much. I had to learn how to walk again this year after a severe Achilles tendon injury, which required four surgeries to fix. And I happen to have a service dog. His name is Cash. Some day I hope we can hike together somewhere. Thanks again to you and your guest. I appreciate it. I’m also going to be fifty next month. Thanks. Take care.

    I would like to make a quick clarification. No park is obligated to allow your dog no matter what it does. There are times when you will not be allowed to bring a dog at all and the enforcement penalty can be very stiff including jail time. So no matter what you should be ready to potentially kennel the dog and accept that it may happen. The Park Service does not have to give a reason for not allowing your dog or even yourself for that matter.

    • @ISuckatHiking
      @ISuckatHiking 2 месяца назад +2

    • @bl5cent
      @bl5cent 2 месяца назад

      @@ISuckatHiking The law does not say that and the NPS is not bound by that. They are not discriminating against the person or the animal. If they feel there is a threat to you, your animal, wildlife or others they do not have to allow you, or the animal in the park. At the entrance to the Smokey Mountain National park the signs make this very clear.

    • @ISuckatHiking
      @ISuckatHiking 2 месяца назад +1

      @bl5cent Service animals are allowed on trails and in park buildings in most national parks, unless the superintendent has closed an area. Some areas may be closed to dogs due to wildlife activity or nesting.
      This is off their website, so under extreme cases, but in those cases, a person most likely wouldn't be able to go in anyway. Anyway, thanks for your interest. I completed the trail with Leo, and everyone, including the NPS, was helpful and supportive .
