I would give it another few abilities, a certain insect known as antlions, that dig sand traps were they are at the center of it falling into the pit would give the dragon a advantage against the players that fell and it can set them up to take damage each turn that is a combination of acid and physical until they reach the center of the trap after two or three turns, after which the dragons bite will crit and avoid ac by a percentage of the damage they took falling into the center of the pit, they then can bury the pc and it will take a certain amount of turns for either the pc to suffocate or escape. The second ability would be a tunnel ability allowing for it to create a system of tunnels that it could collapse to disrupt the surface possibly destroying structures and being used to move minions and resources unseen.
I know I must be preaching to the choir here, but I'm getting kind of burned out on the mid-to-end-level threats. Like yeah, giants and dragons and genies and such are cool, but only because they're rare. I tend to not need variant dragon species because the 'simple' ones I throw at the party are pretty dang memorable as it is. Do something wacky like the Yellow Musk Creeper.
Since they can eat rocks... Just imagine they get an ancient, one of a kind statue, but it's made out of a rare mineral they'll never see anywhere else, and they have to deal with the temptation to eat it, or keep the valuable artifact.
"THIS IS NOT REAL RED VELVET CAKE THIS IS JUST WHITE CAKE WITH TOO MUCH FOOD COLOURING." "But 'real' red velvet cake isn't easily assessible for the average person anymore, all cocao bought is Dutch processed."
Those kobolds that are traveling the desert to bring food to their dragon master? They’re actually master chefs. They’re not hauling people, just gourmet ingredients to cook their master meals. Isn’t it awful that the brown dragon is forcing these kobold chefs to cook for him, under probably threat of death? No, it’s actually an honor to be asked to cook for a brown dragon, and they willingly there to prove their skills as the best in their field. Satisfying a brown dragon with your meal is the highest praise! And he tips very well. Maybe he’ll still eat them if he doesn’t like the cooking though
Now I imagine a campaign where the party has to quell a feud between a Brown and Blue dragon. The twist, the Brown is the 'teenage' child of the Blue, and it becomes high powered family therapy.
@@SockieTheSockPuppet Wait, but if the party's bard mates with a Blue dragon, wouldn't the result be a blue half-dragon? Unless the Bard is himself a polymorphed dragon...🤔
@@Lordmewtwo151 I heard once that some polymorphed dragons actually forget they're dragons. I know pretty much nothing about D&D though so I could be super wrong here.
The funniest part is when the party is freaking out and he's just like, "What? You were fine with tracking him down for a beheading, what's the difference?"
The intelligence, history appreciation, and gourmand tendencies make this sound like a great candidate for an affable (yet morally dubious) quest-giver for PCs to interact with. Plenty of motivation to issue the party fetch quests that will take them into monster-filled wilds and perilous ancient ruins!
Collecting relics from the ruins of forgotten civilizations. Harvesting rare herbs and spices from various wild and dangerous regions around the world. Hunting the most unique of game. And of course fucking with blue dragons! There are so many options for quests!
It’s honestly kind of a shame that these guys have a cosmological penchant for Evil, they’d make great Neutral characters! Perhaps one can bend Blue-and-Orange morality enough for them to not be a problem and be very affable rulers of a desert kingdom, or a Gourmet Dessert Kingdom! Eh? Ehh?? Perhaps the evil they commit is high tariffs on goods or something. Have to pay those adventurers somehow!
@@jemm113 Honestly, there's a few monsters I'd just ignore the vanilla alignment for because it can be cool, and this'll be one of them. The other major example I can think of off the top of my head is the Oblex, oozes that absorb thoughts and memories. With that one I was figuring since they get all the memories of their victims, what about one that gets the personalities too, instead of using the memories exclusively for their own ends?
I feel like if there’s some two random dragons that breed that have no direct lineage, it just sorta goes straight into a mutt like mix of the two parents and the brown dragon. If two of said mutts somehow breed, then you get purebred browns.
I'm adding a colloquialism to my homebrew world. Instead of people being labeled 'the black sheep' of the family; they're going to be referred to as 'the brown dragon' of the family. :D
Now I imagine a brown dragon chef who captures new creatures and brings them to their lair where they debate on how to best cook them while they're locked in a cage of some sort
In Tony the Tiger voice: Bake and toast 'em fry and roast 'em till bears blaze and eyes glaze till hair smells and skins crack fat melts, and bones black in cinders lie beneath the sky!
Of course it would have at least one alchemy jug in its horde. Probably more than that exclusively for the purpose of having the correct liquid ingredients as fresh as possible for cooking or sauces.
@@SockieTheSockPuppet I still like the old theory that the Steel Dragons aren't exactly metallic dragons either, but a situation where there was enough interbreeding between various humanoids and dragons that their nature mixed and they're something else entirely...which is why in previous editions, the protections of Waterdeep against dragons let them in without issue... Song Dragons/Were-Dragons are something else as they're some other dragon god getting involved
@@Adahy_Bullet Another term for the Song Dragons...essentially a human given the ability to transform into a dragon (usually similar to Silver dragons) for some purpose. Song dragons are exclusively female and have a silver dragon form and it's known that they were given it by some sort of dragon god, but how/why varies heavily...were-dragons essentially have the same mechanics but pop up in other settings as well
So with the color wheel principle there should be 15 variations of chromatic dragons: 5 Primary Variants: Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and White And 10 secondary: Red and Yellow making Orange Yellow and Blue making Green Red and Blue making Purple Red and White making Pink Red and Black making Crimson Yellow and Black making Brown Yellow and White making Tan Blue and Black making Indigo Blue and White making Cyan. And Black and White Making Gray.
Brown dragons being some kind of culinary enthusiast or food critic is amazing. The party bribing the dragon or seeking out some kind of new food, spice flavour combination is one of the most unique adventure hooks I've heard in a while.
Happy to see one of these boys! I actually just finished up a statblock for a Brown Dragon Bard villain for my own campaign. His story is that he is taking over one of the major trading ports of my setting for the goal of creating the ultimate draconic cookbook to immortalize himself. I definitely used more elements of the 4e Brown as opposed to other editions but I can't wait to compare your version and my own! As for the next metallic dragon, my vote is either for Mercury or Adamantine. They both hold a special place in my heart due to older campaigns I ran
The Brown Dragon is certainly a cool one. I like how it's usually drawn with a rough, rocky hide Though, I never liked the fact it had an acid breath weapon, and prefer to give it a sandblaster-esque attack (but that's probably just me lol) Nonetheless, dragons of all colors are cool, and I enjoy your videos. Keep up the amazingness!
The acid breath certainly sticks out a bit compared to the rest of their lore and toolkit. Maybe that's in part because the black dragon has the same thing and wears it better. Something more befitting their theme as a gourmand, maybe? Since many others here have mentioned the potential in a brown dragon chef, how about a spicy breath weapon? One hard sneeze and your adventuring party has thousands of scoville units of pepper powder blasted into their faces. No one can see anything, constant sneezing, burning so painful you go numb... oh boy.
Fun fact: The fourth edition (and non-faerûnian) version of the Brown Dragon does indeed have a sandblast type of breath weapon. Originally printed as the Sand Dragon in 3.5. It is also capable of flight (although a very poor flier).
I recently brought back the brown dragons myself to 5e, but i took them into a different direction. Yes they are still burrowing predators that stalk the desert but instead of hoarding long lost relics, they hoard spices. What do they use those spices for? Cooking of course! Yes brown dragons in my world are draconic chefs, the issue is that you are the one whos being cooked.
Oh, I like that. The sand explodes in the midst of the party, panicking the horses as this voice bellows "fee-fi-fo-fum, one of you has cardamom!" then you see the brown. "Excuse my rudeness. Might I give you a price for some? I'm all out. The other option is I eat you all- I promise, you'll be well seasoned."
Actually, the spices would still work with one of the reasons they actually hoard the long lost relics...the actual value is secondary, their big thing is that a brown dragon is contemplative mixed with spurts of inquisitive, they collect relics because they're driven to learn and know whatever they could, often with heavy irritation of other dragons and long lived species because they might show up to start asking questions if they get on something. Some of them ending up on topics other than history while laying in wait pondering the exact recipe that a certain ingredient would be the perfect capstone for fits them just as much as some relic of a forgotten civilization that they're trying to figure out the use for...
I like the aspect of their hordes being a collection of ancient artifacts. You could easily make them a quest giver as the draconic curator of a museum who hires adventurers to find more artifacts, or a good target to pull a heist on. Love the dragon videos, my players may not encounter every dragon I’ve populated out world with, but I love knowing they’re out there!
A cookoff campaign with a Gordon Ramsey esque brown dragon sounds like the perfect opportunity to use the DragonStew supplemental book from Pointy Hat!
I think something funny would be a "Good" Brown dragon, where it's the leader of a massive and successful trade city full of archeologists and chefs where they take food in from around the world as well as ancient objects. I think a local like that would be VERY interesting for players to go through. And it's hoard is a museum guarded by the dragon itself displayed in grandeur
For the metallic dragons: I'd like to see the Iron Dragon first. For my first campaign, and unbeknownst to me that they existed, I had a grey dragon & and Iron dragon of my own creation. I even made a delivery quest for the Iron dragon's egg to be returned to it without the team knowing. They really enjoyed it but I would like to see the true Iron dragon come about.
I like how the dungeon dad has been using Diablos from Monster Hunter as the monster of reference. Despite no breath attack and having wings, Diablos exclusively uses his wings as a jump assist as if they are a +10 on a jump check. It's mainly because of a Sonic bomb going off and causing the Diablos to stumble.
Now that we finished with the choromatic I think it will be cool to explore the metallic dragons next. And maybe gem as well if they are other variants besides the main five,
You know the brown dragon and the golem made out of pieces of magic paper pair up quite well, maybe on the paper pieces it's part of map that shows the entrance to the tunnel connecting to the tomb used by the brown dragon
Or made from the dragon's recipe book and tasting notes. Someone stole it and tore the pages out. The only person to every escape, and they thought they'd grabbed the dragon's spell book (it's probably equally valuable) on their way out.
7:05 imagine a brown dragon that had hatched in a village that later became an ancient civilization and some of his old comfort items are the most prized part of his hoard
Thanks for including the Molduga clips, I will be using the lair as a dungeon idea where the party will discover one of their members has another hidden ability to unlock. Ascend. Yes the very same one from TotK. They're gonna need a way out once they find themselves stuck! Also, the Chef Dragon idea was actually what I was gonna go for, how ironic that you had a whole thing for that already. I love you so much dude, you're amazing. Actually, I think I'll make it two chef dragons, who have been competing to make the Realms Tastiest Dish for centuries as a rivalry. The players are going to get involved by happening to be going in the general direction of some..... Rare Creatures who's meat will be required, or distance locals with secret grottos filled with special herbs that grow only in those conditions set within. Each ingredient will of course be some kind of Rare/Epic/Legendary item of great difficulty to acquire. Gonna be it's own Full Game Side Quest. The plot twist will be the rewards for the quest. 1: not becoming ingredients for the final dish. 2: getting invited to stay and eat and talk to the dragons about their adventures to find the ingredients. 3: tasting the tastiest food ever made in all of time. But also due to the complexity of each major ingredient, are all granted a random perk / spell / ability of GM's choosing. My campaign right now involves a random assortment of a Harengon Alchemist, Flame Sorcerer Dark Elf, Water Genasi Pirate Druid, and Halfling -Changling Arena Champion Fighter, who are all still unawares that their abilities stem from one place: STANDO POWAH. Having them finish this quest will unlock a new ability for their Stands, as by the time they can complete it, they will be significantly more familiar with their powers (and know about them)
I had no idea that this type of dragon existed! I just starting worldbuilding for a new game in a couple months, I'm absolutely incorporating one of these into my desert area. Excellent work as always!
On top of the cool metallic dragons from editions past, the gemstone dragons from those same editions are fascinating as well! I have a player who is the child of an Obsidian Dragon in my campaign, and it opened my eyes to just how many cool dragons got shafted by Fizban... :'( Edit: spelling :(
I’m imagining aspiring chefs coming from miles away to offer up their latest culinary ideas to a brown dragon. In return for this steady stream of new experiences, the dragon not only acts as a food critic, but also offers advice and insights gained through its centuries of culinary adventures.
Hmm... Taking inspiration from that "brawl between a brown dragon and a blue dragon" idea, you mentioned that it's a delay that no merchant would ever risk not taking... But what if they HAVE to take it? What if a royal knight was sent to a distant desert town to retrieve a cure for their king who is dangerously ill, but, right as the knight was about to leave, a brown dragon and a blue dragon started fighting in the desert that separates the town from the capital? The knight can't wait any longer, since their king might perish if they take the long way around, and so they ask the party for help. There are so many ways this could go, and now I kind of really want to write a small adventure around this prompt!
I actually have a brown dragon in my campaign, except he is one of the last. I don’t go off the whole colour theory lore, but the whole “Tiamat had a rival chromatic sister she killed” one. Baradün is an old, old dragon who actually is not hostile to the players at all. He kept snacking on those flying dream manta rays from a previous video and started tripping massive dream balls. He fell asleep at his ambush spot decades ago and now is never quite sure if he’s awake or asleep, referring to any players that fall into his forgotten trap as “little dreams”, not bothering to snap at the clearly imaginary PCs unless provoked. His area of the desert has some trippy mirage-dream stuff going on and actually borders the blasted waste that is an ancient blue dragon’s. The Big Blue however knows he’s around and his current state, so pragmatically allows him to slumber there for the added draconic regional effects, having plundered the lair years ago. But he also has many contingency plans in case Baradün wakes up and causes a ruckus.
@@MaryCoady-m8f MrRhexx says it's the Silver Dragons, because they love variety so much. The Brass Dragons live in the desert so they are capable of surviving on very little, perhaps even just the morning dew.
A mummy who actually sends adventures to the lair of a brown dragon to 1. Keep its own treasure secure 2. Has a deal with said brown dragon that it will help protect the tomb of the mummy as long as it gets fed different types of meat
I was going to ask about the Howling Dragon, but they aren't chromatic, they are extraplanar. They are screaming and howling mad, so I find them super fun.
My plan with dragons right now is to get through the metallic dragons, then gem, then OTHERS because there are still a bunch that don't fit into any category I want to talk about.
@@DungeonDad If I remember correctly, aren't there more Extraplanar dragons then there are chromatic dragons, even with the ones you've covered from the lost color wheel? I could have sworn the Draconomicon had 11 or 12 extraplanar dragons. One for basically every outer plane?
A good-natured brown dragon in humanoid disguise as a renowned chef in a capital city of the desert. A large and jolly individual who loves to treat newcomers with exotic dishes they've never tasted before.
Goodman Games actualy had their own 5e version in their 'Original Adventures Reincarnated #4 - The Lost City' conversion. It really did a good job with fleshing out the levels especilay the deeper ones where less and less info was given because it was asumed DM nolonger needed much help.
@@PopeAdopE420 Yup there is big conversion done by Goodman with bkessing of WoTC. Honestly check out the whole line. All of them are absolute banger clasics.
I'm very happy you got to this one. I knew about Brown Dragons before this, and I really wanted to get your research on it. It's still my favorite of the "other" chromatics, but you brought some awesome ones to light, like the yellow, orange, & purple. You also gave me some new passion for the Fang Grey differences. Plan a campaign with a Fang Dragon in disguise as a guild master to dragon hunters (the players), in the end goal of eradicating any remaining Grey.
When you started this video I thought that like the Gray Dragon (which was first introduced as the Gang Dragon), the Brown Dragon would turn out to be the Sand Dragon introduced in Dragon Magazine. Everything fits except the breath weapon, which would turn you into a pile of white sand.
6:48 so as a result of the incredibly long lifespan of a dragon a brown dragon might be the only living thing with knowledge of a civilization long forgotten and therefore might have a magical item of incredible power long forgotten or something of the sort and the party either might need to destroy the item so the BBEG can never get their hands on it putting them at odds with the dragon, or the party might come to it seeking history on a civilizations magic after the BBEG unearths the remnants of the civilization
I'm personally a huge fan of Steel dragons, always thought their ecology and design was fascinating (definitely not related to being an art student, not at all 😅) They sort of exist in 5e, Fizban's Treasury referenced them, but they're just described as mistakenly labeled Copper or Silver dragons there. Looking forward to whenever you get around to them!
Now I want to set my party up in a situation where an ancient Brown Dragon wants to savor some of the rarest meats there are... imagine a dragon that just states; "I want to taste a god..." the party is all of a sudden just left dumbfounded and confused... how does one serve up a god, and who the hell is tthis dragon to make such a request and refuse passage to the party?... makes a for a funny and terrifying encounter I find😂
Man I really appreciate your work. It makes me so inspired to run interesting creatures or scenarios. I only got into dnd about 2 and a half years ago and I found your channel when you made the spirit warrior video and I feel like whenever I want to get the creative juicies flowing I just put on one of your vids.
Is it weird that I am seeing a spelljamming Brown Dragon NPC traveling wild space to collect treasures from fallen empires across the multiverse and to test how multiversal and planar terroir will effect the flavor of elves, dwarves, humans, etc?

Lol I just found your channel and spent this mornings commute listening to your dragon playlist! Guess I picked a perfect time to watch all the others!
I like the idea of their breath weapon being force or (magical) bludgeoning damage, if force is too OP. It also fits with an idea I had about how they burrow. They temporarily liquify sand around them with focused vibrations. Dope. Bass. 😎
19:25 - I can totally visualize a lightning filled sandstorm, Kong vs Godzilla level hits landing (from human perspectives); and some desert town going nuts placing bets on who the winner will be. In my head, it all looks very Ridley Scott; like the 'crappy arena' battles in Gladiator (2000) when Maximus is first starting out fighting for Proximo. For some reason, this might be stereotyping, or type-casting, but I imagine Omid Djalili as the bookie. Could be that I just really want to meet and work with him, though. ;-)
Nothing to say, you are truly the best. That is. Whenever I need some monster in particular, The Dungeon Dad comes along to give the one you didn't ask for, but knew you needed.
I was looking at the Forgotten Realm Wiki page, specifically at the dragons, and came across the Mercury Dragons. Aside from feeling retroactively called out in the form of a dragon, its hoard is what I find most interesting. No consistency or cohesion, just shiny things and many wondrous *unique* trinkets. Emphasis on unique. They are noted as willing to trade away duplicates within their hoard for something they've heard of, but haven't seen. And this gives me the idea of one of them aquiring a Lich's phylactery.
Oh, I *love* brown dragons! Mainly just because the fins are rad as hell, but I saw a mini of one on a shelf once, bought it immediately, and then looked up everything I could about them. They’re so cool!
Thought on how to get into the lair. 10:55 ( edited in) Summoned desert crawlers or familiers. Theres the giant insect spell as well. This added on to some druidic features can give you vision into the lair locations. Then its either digging in. Getting a burrow speed. Or teloports.
Oh, that's nice to see. I remember I suggested these before, & one time included a little sales pitch (all I can remember is something about Lasery Doom, & I think I tried to fit one of those quick breatheless warnings denying responsibility in writing form), & after looking through over 40 video comment sections I can't seem to find the damn thing, so maybe someone will like it someday, & if youtube deigns to let me know I can post it there 😮💨 I remember someone said they added it to some suggestions list of yours (discord? I don't know), & then ignored me when I asked if they included the site (cause when I looked for it, mojobob was eager to avoid me until I had to force search google)
@@TheIdealofGreed It's already on the list with your name on it and the sources are sited, yes. You weren't ignored though. We just don't always see all of the responses. At least, I don't get notified of anyone's replies.

Metallics are next? Cool. Still, please don't forget the Neutral-aligned Gem Dragons. I actually played an Amethyst Dragon wyrmling once, and it was great! Their breath weapon is a Gem of Amethyst that acts basically like a grenade, with a blast radius like that of the Fireball spell. Please don't forget about them! :)
Wait! They do not have entrances to their layers and they can hold their breath for 100 years? This would mean, that their lair could be full of foul air, making the fight more complex and dangerous.
I love this dragon, I stumble into it in a desert adventures supplement for 3.5, never though it was a chromatic, it was named sand dragon and neutral alignment
Potentially for that it's straight up heat. Not fire but dry heat to dehydrate, crack, peel, and debilitate so it's like super concentrate desert atmosphere that can wear people down into sand. Potentially instead of all out damage it could be a few spread out options like a little damage, and one or two debuffs. Just spit balling, really.
Absolutely love it, when I run this, I wanna add one glaring weakness just to make the combat a bit more eccentric. So, the brown dragons live in the desert, an area with copious amounts of sand. This means that they are constantly covered in it, even when they emerge from the ground. If someone where to superheat this sand with say, a fireball, or a similar heating attack, the sand on the brown dragons body will undergo vitrification, and the brown dragons body will be frozen in place by sand that was just turned into glass. This could be a fun way to spice up the encounter, maybe the dragon loses access to a particular limb, or its movement speed becomes zero, any number of effects are possible.
Appreciate the Dukes of Hazzard reference there. Your editing and photoshop is becoming legendary. I'm curious where the image from 09:52 is from. Feel bad for any bulettes that come across a brown dragon.
The desert setting reminds me of another being who was lost to previous editions, not a monster but a god. My favourite D&Deity in fact, Jarmik. Unlike other gods who have realms devoted to war or vengeance, Jarmik is devoted to generosity and his mosques are havens for the thirsty.
Awesome! In my mind I understood it that 4e brown desert replaced the 2e yellow sand dragon. While I despise replacing arguments, the 2e yellows should be renamed/ colored to Beige / Tan dragons. Why? Well having THE Yellow dragons be the chromatic coastal, winged and salt breathing type is much more unique and varied. Yes I want my coastal territory dispute of Yellows, Topazes and Bronzes 😂 If WotC or a creator like you DD could make a campaign around THAT I would shell out dosh for sure 😁
These guys are so good, I’d hate to have to twist myself into knots to make the Evil dragon not be evil. For my setting, I’m setting a ground rule that “mutt” dragons are free of the cosmological alignment boxes. Brown dragons are seen as the better side of Brown Vs Blue to desert dwellers. And perhaps this actually holds true. When “wild” they can likely be just as evil with their penchant to kill travelers indiscriminately for their meat. But if one decides to take over or become patron to a town or city, they tend to soften up as neutral alignments as they recognize the benefits that running a city offers them, like easy supplies of gourmet food and access to adventurers for relic hunting! They can still be evil, obviously since there are cities in setting that are run by outright evil people, but I’d imagine their love of relics and food makes the Brown dragons a LOT more affable and accommodating. At worst the still-evil ones eat chefs they have qualms with, or eat adventurers or archaeologists that attempt to swindle them or otherwise gift them phony and counterfeit relics. Though perhaps this nature also manifests as being strict with food safety codes and historical preservation! They can even use their magic to make the desert hospitable for agriculture, fertilizing the soil or pulling toxins from water supplies! Or outright can make mineral-rich water themselves! I’d even give them a humanoid polymorph that allows them to partake in very fine dining!
YEAH I CAUGHT THIS WHEN IT DROPPED, I LOVE YOU DUNGEON DAD! KEEP MAKING SHIT THIS CONTENT IS SOMETHING I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO, AND TOU DESERVE WAY MORE ATTENTION HERE THEN YOUR GETTING.
I just realized the nightmare that is dragon lore in D&D. We have chromatic dragons, missing chromatic dragons, metallic dragons, missing metallic dragons (which dungeon dad has moved on too now that we are out of chromatic dragons), gem dragons (Which I just learned of from a comment on the yellow dragon video), and celestial dragons (The ones out in space: sun, moon etc.). All of wich have their own gods, but due to how space works in D&D there is no way the celestial dragons can have a god because it would just die, so they need a different explanation for how they came to be. And all of these gods interact with the world and eachother in different ways. This has gone from rabit hole to abyss surprisingly fast. (I do not know very much lore so if you have any information on these things or know any kinds of dragon I missed I would appreciate it.)
The Brown dragon sounds sick! In my game my players are trying to stop 5 chromatic dragons from turning into the other colours (Red-Grey, Black-Purple, Green-Pink, White-Yellow and Blue-Orange) and the cult that is aiding them. The Cult is trying to Resurrect Tiamat's Sister who is the goddess of the other chromatic dragons. An Unlikely ally they where trying to find is a fellow chromatic dragon who was persuaded to be turned but refused, and I now Know which colour Vzalkalidid the Last Daughter of Khormaranth is. Thanks for the awesome video and I will definitely be using this and the other dragons in my campaign!
color-wise... live in shallow, warm seas, bully merpeople tribes and merchant ships into bringing them tribute. Despite their obvious villainy, they like to style themselves as benevolent rulers - they are a bit like genies when it comes to ego. Their breath attack manipulates water into a narrow stream that pressure-cuts their opponents. They love to make their underwater lairs around nautical hazards, so that sometimes new loot just drops into their lairs. They can also use their innate magic to manipulate water currents and make such places more dangerous - they wouldn't stoop to directly attacking someone who doesn't pay them tribute, they simply "withdraw their blessing."
The question is what happens when you mix lightning and chlorine gas? The closest thing I found was making CFCs, but I'm not sure if a dragon that destroys the ozone layer is all that threatening to the party. I guess you could go for an angle of suffocation, the refrigerants immobilising people by flash freezing them or just take poisonous energy and call it radiation.
Apparently, chlorine releases the most energy of any element when electrons bind to it and attracts electrons really strongly, so this is possibly a poisonous, electrical cloud that explodes.
@@marcusc9931 This sounds pretty good. I can see them doing elaborate ship graveyards or coral reefs around their lairs. Like someone that overly decorates their aquarium.
Oooooh i can 100% see a campaign arc where an old brown dragon has managed to learn how to shapeshift and spends his days like NBC's Hannibal from 2013, Mads Mikkelsen impression and all.
I've had brown dragons on my 5e docket for a while...but mine are less culinary inclined and far more...impulsive. They collect EVERYTHING they find interesting, barrels, shoes, intricately carved chairs, sure spices, and recipes are on the list...but SOCK PUPPET WITH GOOGLY EYES! I'm also the DM who values far more role-playing at the table, and having a dragon that is so...questionable is useful in certain situations. Especially with such a hostile environment. No, it’s actually an honor to be asked to cook for a brown dragon, and they willingly there to prove their skills as the best in their field. Now I imagine a campaign where the party has to quell a feud between a Brown and Blue dragon. The twist, the Brown is the 'teenage' child of the Blue, and it becomes high powered family therapy.
Lol
I am so here for this
@@SockieTheSockPuppet Wait, but if the party's bard mates with a Blue dragon, wouldn't the result be a blue half-dragon? Unless the Bard is himself a polymorphed dragon...🤔
Blue Dragon: “When are you going to stop with this absurd phase of being a chef and rule the desert”
Brown Dragon: “GOD MOM, IT'S NOT A PHASE”
@@Lordmewtwo151 I heard once that some polymorphed dragons actually forget they're dragons. I know pretty much nothing about D&D though so I could be super wrong here.
I like the idea of polymorphed Brown Dragon that gives the players quest to track down and bring criminals who belong to rare species ( to eat).
And the dragon doesn’t tell you why you should get this rare species and are shocked when they bring it to them 😂.
Nom
The funniest part is when the party is freaking out and he's just like, "What? You were fine with tracking him down for a beheading, what's the difference?"
. . . and a mind flayer named Hakatha Slim.
Party: Nope. Not possible. Don't care what you pay. Can't do it.
Slides a ring of wishes with 2 wishes remaining and multiple scrolls of simulacrum. "Eh? Come on adventures its a good reward."
"I suspect I'll never taste kraken. Prove me wrong, and I may reconsider eating the firbolg the next time I see you."
I like that brown dragons have a lot of possible backgrounds, they can be like the "mutt" of the dragons.
The mongrelfolk of dragonkind.
A purple and yellow combination would be funnier. Plasma and sand, molten glass. A dragon that spews molten glass.
Now I imagine a brown dragon chef who captures new creatures and brings them to their lair where they debate on how to best cook them while they're locked in a cage of some sort
And then the sun rises, and they turn to ston- wait wrong book.
Gives me little mermaid chef vibes

Of course it would have at least one alchemy jug in its horde. Probably more than that exclusively for the purpose of having the correct liquid ingredients as fresh as possible for cooking or sauces.
As mentioned by Dungeon Dad with that Dragon Ramsey thing.
_"Where's the lamb sauce?!"_
Lets not forget about Gem Dragons. They are pretty interesting and neutral. There are also Linnorms which are pretty cool dragons too.
Lung Dragons too!
Definitely hasn't forgotten about them. Just the metallic has way more requests. Gem will definitely get done.
Personally I’m hoping for Linnorns!
Don't forget Planar dragons! The Elysian dragon would be a great buddy for the Brown.
Quicksilver and steel dragons are both fascinating
I second the mercury dragon.. quicksilver

Yellow and Blue making Green
Red and Blue making Purple
Red and White making Pink

I like how it's usually drawn with a rough, rocky hide
Though, I never liked the fact it had an acid breath weapon, and prefer to give it a sandblaster-esque attack (but that's probably just me lol)
Nonetheless, dragons of all colors are cool, and I enjoy your videos. Keep up the amazingness!
Agreed.
Yes brown dragons in my world are draconic chefs, the issue is that you are the one whos being cooked.
okay it wasnt recently but still
Oh, I like that.
I can’t help but imagine a brown dragon who’s just some Gordon Ramsay like guy who eats you if your cooking is trash with this take on them
@@Beepers559 _"Your cooking is shit! I'm going to eat you now, you fucking donkey!"_
Better yet, the players are trying to steal an artifact from the museum to use against the BBEG
Agreed. I would be a fan of all of the Ferrous Dragons getting this treatment.
And maybe gem as well if they are other variants besides the main five,
There are so so many
There are two I know of for gem, Amber and Obsidian
You know the brown dragon and the golem made out of pieces of magic paper pair up quite well, maybe on the paper pieces it's part of map that shows the entrance to the tunnel connecting to the tomb used by the brown dragon
I believe The golem you’re thinking of is called a grisgol. They’re made of rods, wands , old magic items and magic armor with scrolls as skin
Or made from the dragon's recipe book and tasting notes. Someone stole it and tore the pages out. The only person to every escape, and they thought they'd grabbed the dragon's spell book (it's probably equally valuable) on their way out.
@@tenchraven ooo, I like that. Great idea

Edit: spelling :(
I’m imagining aspiring chefs coming from miles away to offer up their latest culinary ideas to a brown dragon.
I love this idea!
“They do have these long finlike structures on either side of their body, but no actual wings to speak of.”
Gold dragons: …
Would love to see some of the forgotten metallic dragons
Aren't silver dragons also fond of fine cuisine? I would love to see a cook-off between the two.

I like the idea of their breath weapon being force or (magical) bludgeoning damage, if force is too OP. It also fits with an idea I had about how they burrow. They temporarily liquify sand around them with focused vibrations.
Dope. Bass. 😎
Your idea of vibrations and sound also lends way to Thunder damage - aka sonic damage in older editions

I feel this.
Adamantine dragon would be a fun choice.
Oh, I *love* brown dragons! Mainly just because the fins are rad as hell, but I saw a mini of one on a shelf once, bought it immediately, and then looked up everything I could about them. They’re so cool!
So theoretically, a brown dragon historian would make a really fun character. Trading recipes for information!
I like this idea a lot
Or the opposite! They're a historian who is also a chef so you could get recipes in return for historical artifacts or information pertaining to them.

One suggestion for a breath weapon instead of also doing acid. What if it's a liquid that turns the dragon's victim into sand?
Perhaps one could take the Shara Ishvalda route and give it a breath of concentrated sonic vibrations.
Brown dragon sounds like a euphemism for heroin
Appreciate the Dukes of Hazzard reference there. Your editing and photoshop is becoming legendary.

Feel bad for any bulettes that come across a brown dragon.
Wooooo, baby dungeon dad upload!!
4E really just complicated everything haha
Also I like that idea a lot!
HELL YEAH THANKS DUDE!
I know right? This is the first time YT has suggested their video to me more than, like, 6 hours after it dropped.
100% appreciate the diablos clip, exceedingly dangerous burrowing derg, meet you but wyvern XD 13:25
*Brown dragon eats Arbys*
Takes 10d6 necrotic damage.
Arby's does acid damage, not necrotic. You're thinking of Taco Bell.
@@danielgehring7437 Taco Bell is the place I cannot eat... It'll be brown out both ends.
Do you plan on doing other kinds of Metallic Dragons since your done with Chromatic Dragon
I sure do!
@@DungeonDadcan’t wait to see them! But I don’t mind waiting as you do other monsters first
Lol nice usage of the Diablos clip.
Excellent dragon lore as always! DnD can never have enough dragons, it’s in the name of the game!
mercury dragons please !!
Its pretty obscure but I'd love to see you do a video on the sloppy top dragon.
I love this series and this channel, keep it up and know that you’ve contributed to many great campaigns
And now we need to collectively brainstorm what cyan dragons do.
Absolutely. I have a few ideas but I think the community will definitely be able to come up with some awesome stuff.
color-wise... live in shallow, warm seas, bully merpeople tribes and merchant ships into bringing them tribute.
Love the brown dragonnn!
Thanks for all of the hard work on these draconic guides!
Sand Wyrms, you hate em right? 😏
I've heard you won't attract them if you walk without rhythm.
However, I'm also the DM who condoned a backstory of my kobold player having a romantic relationship with a green dragon...
Or a human named "guy"😏
Love the Deku Palace and DKC 64 background music as well as the info you provided. So much nostalgia in your videos
