Contact Patch: Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa TD Tire Test Intro

    Pirelli has produced another track day tire, the Diablo TD (T for track, D for day... or maybe T for traction and D for duh). A decade ago they made a track day slick for a few years. Today the Diablo TD has sipes (tread pattern), so it's actually street legal, like a hypersport tire. Dave thrashed a set at Buttonwillow Raceway recently.

    Want to try the Supercorsa TD next once the Q4 wears out. Heard great things about them and some bad. The dunlop q4 burns quick. Seen some people get like an extra day out of the TD, but was told it lacks the feel like the Q4. I like the feedback from the Q4. Will have to try the TD, it'd be great on my wallet if I can get another day. Especially since I can get the TD cheaper.

    Awesome as always Dave. Getting back to a previous video, you mentioned you were lucky enough to represent team USA at the best race track on the planet being Phillip Island. Do you remember your lap times? Also what were you riding and how do you think the track compares to where you shoot most of your videos. Obviously they can’t be as good, just the internationals love PI as it’s long, fast and tricky... Love your work! 👍😎

    Ho Dave, I went from Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 to Metzeler Roadtec01 SE and took the time to measure the distances aswell. The gap in the front is 1mm wider than before and 11mm wider in the rear. The Pirelli rear was worn out even. It's also noticable because the bike steers less "hesitant". What would you suggest to get it geometrically correct again?

  • @D25Studios

    Great video as always (watched all as a subscribed member). Dave, How this tire compares to the Metzeler Racetec RR (non slick) ? I'm curious since Pirelli owns Metzeler

    • @Javic167
      @Javic167 4 года назад

      This tire should be between RR K3 front/ rear and K1 front/ k2 rear, there is not such a tire by Metzler as the Supercorsa TD, which is between the non slick Supercorsas (SC) and the street Supercorsa (SP). Most compareable product by Metzler is the Racetec TD, which should be like the Supercorsa TD, just as a slick, instead of a profile tire.

    One thing I have learned, is that a correctly set up bike with proper tyre pressures, and ridden smoothly by a competent rider gives you very clean video images. There's hardly any camera shake at all on these laps. Not like the amateur shakey footage I got on my R6 going as fast as I dared in the novice group at Brands Hatch!

    The Q4 is by far the best gripping tire I have used, the thin hull of the dunlop, are sketchy for rally coursing/ "cannonballing" I was shocked to see how thin the Q4 gets! I thought I would try a set of power5 mich tires- the rear tire profile is nothing like the power cups- I have trouble with the rear slipping under accelerating out of a turn to a straight... Power5 don't cut it for rally riding- so far the evos are the best I've run,
    Any recommendations on a meztler?

      Slicks will last longer as they can be rotated to get longer life. SC2 rear, Sc1 front. Measure the gap between the tire and mudguard, then remove the RS10's. Install the SC's and measure again to see what the gap is. That will show you what happened to your geometry via different measurements. Hi Cristian. The load rating at 73w is 805lbs total. 75w is 853lbs. That means the tire can take greater stress. You are going to a track so depending on your group and ability plus track temps and correct pressures with appropriate suspension settings the 75W offer more load support. RS10 is a great street tire and excellent for hot climates on the track.
