Great video. I am struggling to figure out how to connect my DAP to the tuk. I want a wired digital connection. My DAP has a 3.5 mm out. What kind of cable would I use to connect to the Tuk to get a wired digital connection?

i managed to find a new-old-stock google chromecast audio. it's got a 3.5 out, but it's secretly optical if you have the right cable. that supports HD audio. google home/nest BT audio is basically trash. it will not stay in sync if you have other speakers around the house. casting has no issues.

Thanks a lot for this video, this is something I was looking for as a layman because to my knowledge this is one of the rare videos that finally explains this topic in an easy-to-understand way. My CD player has an optical output so I could use the optical input of such speakers, right? Do such speakers support the FLAC codec either? Is the normal USB port as seen in this video only there to charge a smartphone, for example, or can it also be used to play digital music files from external storage media? If not, how can I do that without using a PC? That's also part of "streaming" for me.
> My CD player has an optical output so I could use the optical input of such speakers, right? Yeah the Tuk here had that option that would work for you. > Do such speakers support the FLAC codec either? Is the normal USB port as seen in this video only there to charge a smartphone, for example, or can it also be used to play digital music files from external storage media? If not, how can I do that without using a PC? Codecs are processed before they get to these speakers - they're the first thing in the digital audio playback chain: Encoded data (e.g. flac) -> Decoded data (e.g. optical connection) -> analog line level -> analog speaker level -> speaker The speakers here handle most of that with inbuilt components, but not that first decoding step. Decoding is typically done by a CPU of some sort - your phone, PC or many TVs and consoles and streamers. I would expect no such CPU in this speaker - you'd need to connect it to one of the above devices that also supports decoding the files on a USB drive. The USB port on here isn't for connecting a drive, and I wouldn't expect it to charge a smartphone either. It's just an alternative input for the same data as the optical input.
TOSlink is not just fiber optical connection using a solid strand of glass. It's optical plastic tube covered over with insulation to make it more sturdy. Hi guys! I’m looking into building a 5.1 pc setup hooking YU4s to a soundblaster z. I would appreciate any thoughts from your behalf regarding that idea!
Better to just set up a 2.0 or 2.1 system with your Soundblaster. You're gonna need 2 pairs of YU4 for the main left-right and surround channels, a powered sub and another single speaker of somekind for the center channel. Don't know if you have the deskspace for that kind of setup though.
@@sonang7721 Thanks for the reply! I would route cables to the back of my pc room for the surrounds. The center channel would be a hassle though because it would have to be a single active speaker. Right now I have a Logitech 5.1 system, but was looking for an audio upgrade, and Kanto seems to be very well reviewed.
@@mindblockandroid Running a 4.1 setup with no center channel is also an option with the soundblaster if I remember correctly. As for that single active speaker, try looking for a cheaper pair of smaller powered speakers and then ditch the passive one.
I was thinking about this too, since i've also a soundblaster z. But then you would connect the speakers with AUX and therefore use the soundblaster z as DAC. Now the main question would be, if the soundblaster z DAC is better than the build-in Kanto DACs. And my guess would be, that the SB z is worse. Also it's impossible to use the SB z optical output, because it's impossible to daisy chain the speakers as a 5.1 system. That would end up in left speaker -> right speaker -> right speaker -> right speaker and so on 😂
hey, I just bought the kanto tuk, I would like to use usb input but once I turn off the power and turn it on, the kanto will have rca input selected (it does not remember the input I chose), is there a way to make the usb input as default ? pls let me know
The speakers reset when you switch them off from the rear or you remove power. They should retain settings if you're using the remote, the knob on the front to put them to sleep, or just letting them go to sleep by themselves.
Headphone jacks are stereo so you should be able to buy a cable that splits left and right signal to each speaker. This that being said, if you have studio monitors you probably want an audio interface that has balanced outputs.
@@KantoSolutions I just want it for gaming and RUclips don't need a guitar and mic that's to much stuff. Is basic rca cable good enough? I got the kali audio lp-6
@@fabs8883 Studio monitors are designed to accept a 4 V balanced signal. If you use a weaker source like your PC you'll have to turn up the gain on the monitors to compensate which will increase the noise floor potentially causing audible hiss - a complaint I see on forums all the time.
@@KantoSolutions what interface do you recommend for just two studio monitors? I don't need all those other connections for a mic guitar. Do u know of a small black interface for just two monitors..thanks for replying.
slightly off subject but I heard that some speakers even if their wired through aux are not losses and have latency does the YU2 have zero latency? I need for dJing so latency is a big problem my current blu tooth speaker (even though connected through aux) the headphone and the speaker are not in time so it is making mixing a problem.
I really like optical and it's sad they never improved it with much more bandwidth it would fix all my problems which now is hard to get lossless digital audio like 7.1 from a gaming console which needs expensive receivers that then get outdated and need a whole new hdmi standard like current hdmi 2.1👎😠
I know. I dont get to use my PS5's 3D sound on my hometheater speakers because I dont want to shell out for a new receiever with hdmi 2.1. I have to just use regular PS5 audio through my fancy hometheater setup. 😅😅 First world problems. 🤣
Digital signal from either USB or optical is the best option as the speakers have an inbuilt Dac, it is probably even better than the one in your computer, I connect my speakers from one of the thunderbolt ports on my Macbook, there are dedicated cables for the purpose if you do not want to use dongles.
I just got the Kanto Y4U and great-looking speakers. I am having an issue with it blacking out my computer monitor and green lines in all video and gif images. Any ideas? Tried spreading them out as far apart as able from the monitor; tried not using the RCA cable and only Bluetooth and still happens. Any tips appreciated.
I’m new to your channel and really like what I see so far. However I’m curious the very first video I watched you’re rightfully raving about sealed enclosure’s. The very next video this one, I see both these speaker’s are ported. Just curious as to why. I was thinking small driver so you wanted to exaggerate some lower frequencies.
Regarding the amazon echo devices (10:47) are you telling us to wire a speaker to another speaker? How humiliating that is for the poor echo dot... Now more serious: is there any dac that auto wakes from bluetooth?
ARCe.... let's add more stuff to our HDMI and who's going to control the music? Yamaha, Klipsch, McIntosh or Windows 11. Yes, most kid's don't even know what real music truly sounds like today. Luckily I grew up in a bedroom that was full the bands equipment and I never want to hear another Beatles song ever again. But the Digital and Dalby industry destroyed true sound quality for many year's, it was sad. Every CD sounded like crap but tape didn't get stuck on track 6, lol. Yes lm happy to see true sound quality in every topic these days, as music 🎶 makes the sole happy 😊. Rock on my friend, good topic. Thanks again! Don't forget to stack up them old klipsch speakers to the ceiling for an awesome sound stage system sound up-front 🎶....
confused. why does the YU2 have a 'sub' out port, but the kanto sub only has RCA? when you wanna connect a sub, isnt it just a RCA Digital Coaxial Cable i.e male to male
Also cheaper active studio monitors do have hissing as they have higher noise floor. There is no way to get rid of it, better quality monitors that are more expensive have lower noise floor.

That would end up in left speaker -> right speaker -> right speaker -> right speaker and so on 😂
Can I bypass the Tuk's internal DAC and use my own? Either My DAC in my audio player or a DAC. thx
Yep. Just run the analog output from your DAC into the RCA left/right inputs on the Tuks.
hey, I just bought the kanto tuk, I would like to use usb input but once I turn off the power and turn it on, the kanto will have rca input selected (it does not remember the input I chose), is there a way to make the usb input as default ? pls let me know
The speakers reset when you switch them off from the rear or you remove power. They should retain settings if you're using the remote, the knob on the front to put them to sleep, or just letting them go to sleep by themselves.
do the yu4 speakers work out of the box with a pc?
How do I hook up 2 studio monitors to pc if there's only 1 head phone jack?
Do u know of a small black interface for just two monitors..thanks for replying.
can I connect Kanto Yu6 to an AVR?
slightly off subject but I heard that some speakers even if their wired through aux are not losses and have latency does the YU2 have zero latency?
First world problems. 🤣
Yo 🤙🏼
Is there any problems just connecting direct from usb pc out to usb speaker in? noise issues? I thought usb was already a digital signal. cheers
Digital signal from either USB or optical is the best option as the speakers have an inbuilt Dac, it is probably even better than the one in your computer, I connect my speakers from one of the thunderbolt ports on my Macbook, there are dedicated cables for the purpose if you do not want to use dongles.
How do you connect to the MacBook ? On my MacBook Pro there’s no usb a port for the usb cable that comes with the tuks
Video card and or your memory is crapping out it sounds like. Hope that helps.
Where can I find USB to optical converter?
I’m new to your channel and really like what I see so far. However I’m curious the very first video I watched you’re rightfully raving about sealed enclosure’s. The very next video this one, I see both these speaker’s are ported. Just curious as to why. I was thinking small driver so you wanted to exaggerate some lower frequencies.
Can in play a song on the speaker through my Bluetooth phone and the same time can be connected to my radio car?
U planning on putting out a new set of powered speakers?
Can it be conected to a console (ps4) if yes which cable do i can use to sound better
Your best bet is to connect the speakers to the TV through the optical cable. A PS4 does not have an optical output for direct connections.
Is it possible to connect a microphone?
@6:47 Noooooo! Not Golden Eye! You monster! How could you?? 🤣
Can i connect my SYD to an amplifier
LFE? Sub stereo left right - one cable?
So how do you hook up a CD player to power speakers????????????????????????????
Regarding the amazon echo devices (10:47) are you telling us to wire a speaker to another speaker? How humiliating that is for the poor echo dot... Now more serious: is there any dac that auto wakes from bluetooth?
9:31 why optical is better than USB?
3:00 very subtle!
ARCe.... let's add more stuff to our HDMI and who's going to control the music?
Don't forget to stack up them old klipsch speakers to the ceiling for an awesome sound stage system sound up-front 🎶....
confused. why does the YU2 have a 'sub' out port, but the kanto sub only has RCA? when you wanna connect a sub, isnt it just a RCA Digital Coaxial Cable i.e male to male
i imagine it's for maximum compatibility options. some receivers or other audio hardware may have stereo sub out.
Use a single RCA to dual RCA cable. One end has only one male RCA connector for the YU2 and the other has a right and left.
Also cheaper active studio monitors do have hissing as they have higher noise floor. There is no way to get rid of it, better quality monitors that are more expensive have lower noise floor.
