I watched that video twice while working ;-D Thank you guys for all your comments. I'm a solo gamer and I start thinking about all those amazing Lacerda's board games, with luxurious components and long game play and set up which I like. I got Lisboa first, played 2 times now and love it! I also bought The Gallerist and waiting now for delivery.
I watched your videos with Mark in reverse order and I really enjoy listening to the two of you. The rapport between the two of you is great. I hope the two of you are able to do more of these!
Thanks!! We certainly will, Mark and I get on well outside of RUclips and our videos are enjoyable to do, a prime example of why #supportsmallcreators is a thing!
I’ve been searching for informed reviews of the solo modes for Lacerda’s games. Yours are at the top! I’ll also add my compliments for Paul Grogan’s ability to teach Gaming Rules!
Another fantastic material. Really interesting to hear both of you talking about such a great games. I think people will find lots of useful information. Well done to both of You Gents!!!
This was a fantastic video. I only own three Lacerdas, played two (Lisboa and Kanban EV). This video convinced to get the Gallerist next and ignore On Mars until someone tells me otherwise :)
I really appreciate the long mention and you guys tackling a very worthy topic, soloing Lacerdas! I've played them all and wholeheartedly appreciate these genius designs, whether I like the solo or not. And I've picked up Ginkgopolis on your recommendation, Luke. Excited to give 'er a go. Thanks again!
Just my two cents - I recently got Kanban EV, played it solo 8 times now, and I don't like it at all. The game itself is great and very well designed, but the solo feels lazy and unbalanced, it totally betrays an otherwise varied and interesting design and forces you to play a certain way every single time. Of 20 games I bought in the last 4 months or so, it's the worst experience I've had with any game. Kanban deserves a better solo mode than this, it's such a waste. I was expecting to love Kanban, and I mostly do, except for solo, and I'll rarely have a chance to play it with other people, so I intend to sell it asap, sadly. I got this and The Gallerist at the same time and The Gallerist, on the contrary, is amazing.
I had a much different experience with CO2 Second Chance. I found it the easiest of all the Lacerda games to learn (the manual is fantastic) and I found it challenging, but not insanely hard. In fact, I won my first game. It also took me the shortest time of all the Lacerda games to play my first time. I'm not saying he's wrong, it's just not the experience I personally had.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Oh, it isn't easy. For some reason it really clicked for me, it may not for other people. I do always recommend it for solo though because it feels like the solo mode isn't just tacked on.
Great video. I’m on the fence about my next Lacerda game (which would be played solo for a time, but my wife would join later) and this video helped a lot about what to expect from his different offerings. I own Vinhos D., Lisboa, and Escape Plan. For now, my choices are between Kanban EV and Gallerist. Your high praises for the Kanban solo may help to edge that one out for me. Thanks for your work, both of you. I’m sure this is subjective, but do you think the speedcharger expansion is needed? I’m certain the base game alone will provide all the entertainment I’ll need.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I cancelled my Gallerist order based on your experiences. I love Kanban EV (I have more than 40! plays) and I was hoping Gallerist will be something like it.. :) Btw.. I would like to see your walkthrough in KEV :)
Thanks for a great video. I am very interested in The Gallerist and Vhinos. I play mostly with my wife. Which one is better for two players? We have Viticulture + Tuscany, is Vhinos more of the same? Thank you very much.
Vinhos is more about the wine business as opposed to making the wine itself. I would say both are about the same for two. They work fine but lose a little bit of the interaction from either paying money for going to a players space in Vinhos or getting bonus actions in Gallerist. But I would say Gallerist is best.
I know it's all subjective but the negativity towards Viticulture without including the Tuscany expansion is really trying not to give it it's due. Having played played both games, I actually found vinhos the duller of the two. I feel the theme in Viticulture really shines through and the decisions you make can vary from game to game. Whether you have drawn into good or bad quality grapes, cheap or expensive wine orders, there is a path to victory but you gotta be creative. Vinhos after 8 plays have felt similar every game. The solo mode for Viticulture is also far better than any solo mode from Lacerda. You can argue that you shouldn't have to be forced to get Tuscany if you don't like the base game but it's a shame for anyone to dismiss the game as boring without trying the Tuscany expansion.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I think I was reacting to a culling video on Mark's channel where he didn't give the Tuscany expansion a chance based on how plain the base experience was. A real shame. Love the recent collabs with other channels, keep it up.
It’s almost like the Tuscany Expansion is an Essential part of Viticulture, if only they did an Essentials Edition..oh wait, they did and they didn’t include Tuscany 😂 Seriously though, as I’ve said - it’s great that people really like Viticulture (with Tuscany) but I stand by the fact that I find the base game very boring and that I’m not going to invest further in a game if I don’t like the core mechanics...and I really don’t. My Money and time can be better spent on games I actually enjoy. Vinhos is, from a solo perspective, the far superior wine making game for me - despite its flaws. I’m never bored whilst playing Vinhos.

Great conversation. Enjoy the thought processes. Especially your thoughts on 'on mars'.
Thanks!
FYI Ian O'Toole did the artwork for CO2 Second Chance
My favourite solo mode of the ones I've played.
Me too.
Making a good AI for a Lacerda game is always going to be difficult.
CO2 works because there is no AI.

Gallerist I really love, but pretty much only play it multiplayer.

I don’t think any of these games are freely available anymore in the uk!

Viticulture and Tuscany sit nicely on my shelf and i do agree, the solo mode in that beats the Lacerda version.
