Locked it live with the boys, brought the gals together, cut across racial boundaries, backed important causes, wasn’t afraid to call out powerful people, put bands together, supported friends, loved her family. Linda Ronstadt was born on July 15, 1946. Her cover of "Long, Long Time" was released in June 1970, when she was almost 24 years old.
    Long, Long Time
    (Gary B. White)
    Love will abide
    Take things in stride
    Sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side
    And time washes clean
    love's wounds unseen
    That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
    For a long long time
    Caught in my fears
    Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near
    And I never drew
    one response from you
    All the while you fell
all over girls you never knew
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me
    For a long long time
    Wait for the day
    you'll go away
    Knowing that you warned me
Of the price I'd have to pay
    And life's full of flaws
    Who knows the cause?
    Living in the memory
of a love that never was
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you
    For a long long time
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
    For a long long time

I regard Linda Ronstadt as the greatest female singer of the latter half of the 20th century. Almost any song of hers which you review will be a winner. Your evaluation of her voice is right on the button. She has covered a number of songs by other artists and, in my opinion, her version is usually better than the original and that is a very rare talent. An excellent example is "Tracks of My Tears" originally done beautifully by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (1965) but Linda makes it her own. That song is my suggestion to you, Angela, and if you play it, I'll be even happier that I am subscribed.

First time I heard this on "Silk Purse" she became my favorite singer. What a voice. Thanks for adding this. For a similar heartstring tug, react to The Band's "Makes no Difference". Well done.

Linda Ronstadt, Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge, which by the way, I hope you play their song Lost In Music! And Patrice Rushen are among my favorite female artists of all time!

This is one of those timeless melodies like Morning Has Broken or Let It Be Me.. I think there were people in Linda's professional life that tried to steer her one way or another.. some thought she should sing standards, some thought she should be a country star, etc Ultimately, and over the course of her career, she just did whatever she felt like doing at the time and showed everybody that she could sing ANYTHING!!!!

Lovely old song, by the great Linda Ronstadt. Melanie (Sakfa) does a good version of this song. Angela we recently lost Donny Gerrard to cancer. I was wondering if I could request you giving a listen to "Wildflower" by Skylark. The song largely considered to be the start of/or, the first power ballad. It was also super producer David Foster first outing. It's a iconic song, from 1972, beautiful really. Of course Donny Gerrard sang lead on the song.

I always thought that Gladys Knight had the greatest voice, then remembered Linda. RIP Janice.

I requested this song on my local radio and they played it for me. Linda is the best female artist of the past 50 years. No doubt about that.

I saw you looking back in your mind's eye as she was singing, then closing your eyes and looking away from the old images. Finally, your head nodding "yes" at the end.

She was one of the most emotionally perfect torch singer ever. I miss that era in time. Such a sad thing that she can no longer sing. Everything she did was phenominal

My "baby" sister was born five years after me.
I was only 16 when I started my senior year and 17 when I graduated.
That meant she was 11 for most if my senior year and six years behind me.
After graduating, I joined the Air force. Every two or three years, I'd take a month of leave and come back to Michigan to visit.
I was always amazed because in my mind, she was still that little 6th-grader.
I was shocked when she asked me to come home and walk her down the aisle. My "baby" sister was getting married!!!

Everyone goes through “something” like that. We move through it. We just need to give time; time. Her voice is delicate but powerful.

"Living in the memory of a love that never was". Incredible lyric, and the way Linda delivers it hits you right in the feelz.
