A year ago today amidst the birds chirping I thought I heard a teeny meow, sure enough when I stopped my bike I caught a glimpse of a little black kitten on top of a drainage pipe that swiftly darted into the Florida brush…
Sam really is a very lucky black kitten, I’m so glad our paths crossed and I was finally able to catch her the following day!
Huge THANK YOU to Milo’s Sanctuary in California for the guidance and support and for taking little Sam in to their rescue and finding her a perfect home!
Happy Meowloween!

The fact that you found her, brought her to a vet, then made that extremely long drive makes you an absolute hero in my book!
Right, Diane. Proper good fella.
Yes! 😍
From rags to riches, lucky kitty.
Hip hop hurray! Yes indeed!
@Deborah Barnes well, he looked around for hours, I think he would have been her then. And there was only one kitten....
ROFL her little eyes when you got her into the crate is like; WTF just happened to me!!? This dream is weird..
Poor things eyes were buggin! Just sleeping and all of a sudden the world is moving lol
@@snow-violet yes black cats seem to have the wide eyed look, its espcially cute when they look like an explosion of fur like help Iv been made mayday mayday, makes them look so concerned heh in a way those big eyes look like that one cat that had cerebellar hypoplasia called Thumbelina, that had a wheelchair, that was featured on youtube a few years back, still that takes devotion to spend 7 hours in a car to help one homeless cat, but thats chris

I know! 😂 She looks like Ash from 90 day fiance!

Yeah, those angry wide-open eyes. "I'm sleeping peacefully then get interrupted and snatched and put in this cage? How dare you?" I want to know where that Pet Carrier/Diaper Bag was bought. I've never seen one so adorned.
kittens are so fragile it is likely he was dumped. lucky he didnt climb on the road. wish we could save them all.
Truly🙏🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely as I am thinking. Disgusting. There's karma ...
Whoa! It’s almost like black cats aren’t unlucky and deserve to be treated like every other cat!
Yes, they do!
I never considered black cats to be bad luck in the first place, and over the years I've been owned by 2 and now by a tuxedo with white whiskers. Little Sam is so adorable, and her eyes give her a comical expression. Thanks so much for searching til you found her, Chris, and I love the pretty pink carrier!
I have 2 beautiful black rescue cats🐈⬛🐈⬛ Thank you for saving the lovely kitty
They aren’t unlucky at all and deserve as much love as any other cat. I have 3 blackies and I’m the luckiest cat mom ever.
I always heard it the other way 'round: that a black cat crossing your path was lucky.
Anyway, I've had 2 black rescues and I've loved them both.
I can't stand hearing lost kitty cries. I need to find them, too.
Yes.
One time I heard that from underneath a car, so I looked under to make sure no kitten would be hurt when the owner drove away. I saw nothing, but still heard the meows. Then I saw a tiny little face looking at me through the manhole grate cover.
She’d fallen through the grates (around 2.5” apart) because she was so tiny, but I couldn’t open the cover with the car in the way. So I rang every doorbell to ask if they were or knew the owner, until a lady gave me the right address. He moved his car, I opened the cover and luckily she was social and hugged up to my hand.
My neighbour grabbed an old towel and we went straight to the vet since the kitten had no collar. Turns out she got her collar off because it was too big and her owner had already called to get notified if a striped brown kitten was found. She was very dirty but otherwise fine.
Probably the best day of my life to rescue her from an invisible spot and seeing her owner’s face when they reunited.
@@cats1970 thank you for taking the time to rescue that kitten.
Same here. We have a beautiful sold-black kitty lounging in the other room - I went outside and immediately heard a kitten crying. It took me quite a while to find her, she was stuck in a bit of flexible duct material. She was cold and wet and less that two weeks old - her eyes were just starting to open and she was HUNGRY. We were rushing around for a few hours - getting her dry and warm, get KMR and fed her, and then comforted her (momma had abandoned her).
Now she's a big cat and a real sweetheart whose 'signature move' is to grab your hand and give your arm gentle little love nips or to rub her head against it. She's her own person - very vocal and willing to let you know what she wants and doesn't want. If she starts purring (common), you can often hear it quite a few feet away. Her favorite place to sleep is on our chests and left shoulders.
Before her, we knew that there was a female kitty (drop-off) that had her kittens somewhere near or in our yard. I was outside and heard a kitten mewing. We had an old drier that was going out for recycling - there was this cute little orangie in the duct on the back of the drier. I walked up to him and picked him up and held him near my face and said "Well, Hello there!". That little guy started purring and gave me a great big kitten nose rub. Every since then, he's been my special kitty (now he's my old man kitty) and his favorite sign of affection is giving nose rubs, purring, and responding when I call out to him. We eventually found three kittens when I found him - my Sunshine, his brother Spot (RIP age 7), and his brother Cubby Bear (RIP age 11).
Nothing commands my attention like a kitten or cat crying in distress! I just have to do whatever I can to make things better!
Me too I do that all the time in Mumbai!

Thank you for giving this little girl a second chance. 18 years ago we gave our little girl a second chance when we rescued her from the shelter. Today, we had to be humane and give her eternal peace. My heart is broken and I will never be the same. I don't know if I will ever be able to deal with this sadness. Thank you Chris for doing what you do. You are light in a very dark world.
@atheodora lastname , thank you for your kind words. It helps ease the pain a little.
It’s heartbreaking to go through that after having them as part of the family. When I lost my Mugwai, to a combination of renal failure and heart disease, it almost broke me. I decided to honor his memory by hospice fostering another senior kitty, Tobias, who was in renal failure. Believe it or not, that actually helped me deal with the grief, especially when Toby rallied and managed to live over 3 years with me, instead of the 3-6 months the shelter vets gave him.
Omg that horrified face in the cage like "i was sleeping and now wtf what is this?!"
Aqua Aurora Actually, he very much looks like the Night Fury.😀
Ngl, I laughed so hard when after all the effort to lure the kitten, you just yoinked her and put her in the carrier. And I laughed even harder at her shocked expression in there. "What happened, I was just taking a nap?!"
Thank you for all your hard work from this cat mom of two!
This! Oh, this. That shocked expression. The little wee one does not know that this is the best thing that could have happened, yet!
She had that perfect Pikachu face lol
Lol... that shocked expression is priceless n so adorable!
God bless you for caring enough to search n rescue her; you're the best thing to happen to her! ❤💝🧡
2.20 that is one scared kitten right there.
Her shocked expression is fear
"One sleepless night later" is an accurate description, I wouldn't be able to sleep either
That kitten reminds me of my cat Shady. He's a black cat too and when he was a kitten he was also found on the side of road alone. Not sure why. I always wondered though if he was dumped off b/c he was a black cat. I was volunteering at the local humane society the day he was brought in and I will always remember the poor little guy was so hungry he was trying to eat adult cat food. The shelter had a nursing mama cat there at the time and she let Shady nurse alongside her kittens. Shady really touched my heart and I ended up adopting him. 7 years later, he's a big boy and my best buddy. Black cats are the best. Thank you, Chris, for all you do to help cats.
Yes black cats are the best! I don't know why some people don't like them. 😕
They sure are.
That is one lucky kitty. Any black kitten who crosses your path is worth all the luck in the world.
I didn't put two and two together until I read your comment, no kitties are bad luck especially not black ones.
They sure are..my kitty Misha is all black and the light of my life..I found her as an abandoned day old kitten..I wasn't sure if she would make it,but I had to try to help her..I was in a very dark place emotionally at the time,I was seriously considering suicide for the first time in my life things were so bad..I wasn't going to keep her,but after a weekend of bottle feeding and helping her go pee and poo I had grown attached and decided to keep her..at that moment all the thoughts of suicide melted away,I had someone to live for..she is now a happy and healthy 4 year old..I rescued her,but she SAVED me 😸❤️
i have a black cat and she is one of the sweetest cats. she is an outdoor cat but she loves cuddles and has never scratched or bit me once, and she purrs and kneads like crazy. she truly is one of the best things to happen to me, she is definitely good luck!
I agree.
After having multiple black cat friends I’m of the opinion they bring good luck in the form of love, no bad luck
My cat crawled into my Nieces car when she had the door open talking to a friend down town, so she brought her to me and she was the love of my life for 18 years. Wish you all the best and thanks for being so kind. We need more people like you.
The best cats choose their people and warm up their lives! Our cat came to our door when she was a tiny kitten 13 years ago. The other one was a rescue from a kill shelter.
She is the cutest little black kitty. I couldn't give her up

Someone probably decided she wasn't a "perfect" kitten and dumped her. It's definitely their loss, because she's absolutely beautiful and I'd have adopted her on the spot!
Considering she has hydrocephalus, it's most likely that her mother sensed something was wrong with her and abandoned her
@@cocolime6496 Oh, I didn't think about that. Thanks!

That cat had internet meme potential with Marty Feldmen eyes.
It still truly baffles that in this modern age there are still people that think black cats are unlucky! I wouldn't trade my mini panther for anything, they are so beautiful!
my mom had two black cats and she called them her familiars bcz several of her immediate family members just are or were not animal people no pets at all and were unreasonably afraid of cats especially black ones and i thought that was funny! we both loved all of our cats but especially the black ones gotta love a good panther!

Someone probably dumped her, she looked quite well and seems to know humans. Glad you found her 😊
Because Chris found her so close to the road she might fallen out of a car. A lot of kittens that age will climb up into cars under the hood.
@@sjbock sounds possible
even with no prior human contact, kittens that age will adjust practically overnight if you keep them fed, warm, and can touch them without traumatizing them.
i doubt sam and most kittens in similar situations were dumped by people. there are just a whole lot of feral cats having litters. sam most likely got separated from her litter on accident (got lost running from a threat, or crawl onto a vehicle and transported far away, etc.).
Aww she is so adorable, and such a frisky little thing too. I'm glad she has another house panther as a big sister to show her the ways of house panthers.
The fact that Sam's new family looks exactly like her make an awesome close to this story. Keep them wonderful cat stories coming!!

I second that!
This brought tears to my eyes. I suspected the instant I saw her that she was a drop-off, and her behavior afterward quickly reinforced my thinking. She is a beautiful kitten, and will make a striking cat. Black cats can rival "Gingers" for being loving and sweet!
I am so glad for her. We have 4 mini-panthers, and they are some of the most affectionate and loving cats I've ever had. Two like to sleep with us (if it's even a tiny bit cool, one wants to be under the covers between us), and the others - well, they love to snuggle and show affection (one would spend hours on my shoulder if she could). As far as the "bad luck" stuff - only in America (probably driven by religious superstition)!
Oh good, so not just me then. Crying I mean. God, that little girl went straight to the heart! I'm so incredibly thankful to Chris for helping her.. Can't even bear to think what could've happened to her if he hadn't intervened.
its been a year so you saw her at the end she's a full on teenager and loving life with her new siblings one was her the other i assume was Jet most likely but it didn't say other than to name her siblings. she seems very happy and to go from Florida to California too she's a travelin' girl!
I blame the Puritan idiots who originally settled here -_-
@Mitzi Miau Yes it is, and it belongs to ONE specific religion (and no, I am NOT atheist - what I am is my business only). As far as your comment - there were religions before Christianity forced itself on different areas (documented fact - conquest or 'regime change' and clear coercion). Some of those religions still exist in a limited form - Wiccan is one of them. The people that follow that old tradition (beliefs and practices handed down through families through the generations while in hiding - I've met some of them) love animals and respect them. At the same time, there is a church near here where the preacher has preached sermons on "Cats are the Devil's pet!" and young adult males bragged to one another about running over cats and kittens. You can guess what religion dominates this area. (We've lost three kitties that way - evidence it was deliberate and the driver nearly wrecked while killing our cat.)
It appears that the hatred for "Witches" (proper translation of "OT" was more along the line of "poisoners of wells" - which it appears some early and ignorant Christians did in some areas) is actually against people who try to use religion to coerce others into obedience or to punish people. (That last is my opinion.)
I know very well what I'm talking about - for instance, the stereotypical "witch" costume you see all the time? Here's a funny little fact I learned years ago - in much of Italy (those dread "Papists"), chimney sweeps wore costumes like that - protecting them from soot while they worked (and the broom was to clean up afterward). You see, chimney sweeps were necessary because if the chimney wasn't cleaned, it would likely catch fire and burn down the building. As I heard it, in parts of that peninsula, a female chimney sweep was the one who brought gifts on Christmas (the story told to children). The last part about the female chimney sweep - I'm not entirely sure of, but I do know that the attire was correct. Here's another thing - black is NOT considered a sign of evil in many religions (many of which existed before the man miscalled "Jesus" lived - and by the way many non-Christians really respect his teachings, the ones we know he probably taught).
The "black cat" thing isn't that old, maybe 400 years or so (at most). The other comment about the Puritans was probably right on target - they were the militant fundamentalists of their day and driven from county to country (the original pilgrims) because they tried to take over the government, not because they were being religiously persecuted. Another documented fact.
Now, I personally refuse to have anything more to do with Christianity and churches (except when I'm forced to) because of our personal experiences, but the fact is that nearly every major (and many minor) religions have their good people (who care about others and wouldn't force their beliefs on anyone), their conservatives who would willingly use economic or legal coercion to convert others (but no violence), their fundamentalists (who would balk at war and murder but anything else goes), and their militants (for whom war and murder is fine if it's the "Other"). No one religion is perfect or holds all the truth.
Funny thing is that the one generally despised by others, is the one that readily admits to that!
@@luminariel3765 You might find the post I made to another on this thread enlightening. You're probably far more correct than you realize!
I wish I could get people to stop and think about what they believe and what they'd been taught. The very things we fight against are the result of old prejudices and false stereotypes. IMO, black cats are strikingly beautiful and the beliefs about them are all wrong.
Wow, your caring and concern lead you to make a 700 mile drive for a cat you will likely never see again. Amazing and well done!

You are a good person Chris. Glad you got the kitten. She was still very young and had to be helped to go to the bathroom. I was working long hours at the time and was not able to give her around the clock care. The Vet told me that a lady came in that day and had to have her cat put down and she took the kitten home so it was a happy ending for her and the kitten.

There are sadly obsessive cat haters out there, with all sorts of nutty ideas ranging fom toxiplasmosis to depletion of bird species...
Jerks obviously
@@Blitterbug I mean, it's true in the Eastern Hemisphere and in Central America. I love cats a lot, but even I'm not in denial that they do contribute to the depletion of bird and rodent species. They can also carry diseases just like any stray domestic animal (including dogs). What's worse is that they reproduce rather quickly and in great numbers in trouble areas of the world that do not have any TNR programs. It's ignorant to group cat haters with people who actually recognize the risks of leaving cat populations without control. Not much of a problem in the US because we have a lot more veterinary care and a few TNR programs in some regions.
@@carolinacoreas7716 Well said. It's sad that the cat haters are such a vocal minority they tend to drown out more reasoned voices like yours. I'll try and bear that in mind in future. On a hot July day in 2012 I was returning to my car in a Walmart parking lot and walked past a plastic bag tied closed up against a curb. After fumbling with my keys a bit I dropped them and had to turn around to pick them up. At that moment, I thought I saw the bag move ever so slightly. I went back and ripped it open and there was a tiny little black kitten barely alive. I cranked the AC and took her immediately to a vet not far from where I live. That was nine years ago after a very long recovery. Today she (Sable) is my best friend in this world and has never once not been there on my pillow when ... after ritualistic kisses and purrs, I drift off to sleep. Thank you. Amen

@@lisamiller3161 I hope Cole pulls through. I know how much they adore him.
Chris...you are a real good human being. I hope you could save other unfortunate kitties so they will be surely in safe hands. Best of life for you all...
She's so lucky and her family is lucky to have her.
She’s definitely a little character. Thank goodness you found her! ❤️
Love seeing this. Makes me feel good. The world is so crazy right now you forget anyone decent is left. Thank you for rescuing her!
I love it. :-) Not all hero's wear capes! You're a good Man Chris.
I also love the way the sun shines and reflects off the coats of black Cats. :-)
That black kitty was really lucky to cross your path. Your kindness is admirable. I hate seeing strays,I always want to take them all home but I already have 4 cats, 2 of them were strays.
2:07 kitten looks scared to death. Imagine being lifted up a few feet and being snuffled into a cage after sleeping. Brave guy.
You're a good man, Chris!
Oh my goodness! A beautiful house panther on Samhain! Lord & Lady bless you, the rescue, her new family, and Sam herself.
Thank-you for all you do!!!🐾🐈💕❤😘
That face after the catch 😅 like how dare you wake me
More like "WTF IS HAPPENING TO ME?!?..... are you going to eat me now?"
Those little purrs with the "peek-a-boo" in the car
I LOVE IT!!
We can have a tremendous impact in the lives of these little angels that others so carelessly throw away..SHAME ON YOU, whoever you are.
I DO love a happy ending!🤗😺
You're lucky, Chris. Black kitties rock.
Thank-you Chris for all you've done for the little feline! Glad she has a forever home!
The tiniest mews at the end 🥺🥺
Angel's have a way of finding each other! Thank you for being her Angel & you are absolutely amazing.😊💜💜😻
I love this video so much I watched it three times. God bless Chris. What a good person he is and a lucky little cat who now has a good home..
Lots of love and healing energy to Cole. Thank you Chris for being so caring. What a great story and one lucky kitty.
