Our Story:
We are four years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
journey!

I also replaced the seal on another brush hog without taking the gearbox apart in this video: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Check out this video using the brush hog after the seal was replaced: ruclips.net/video/DHTmCIYRmyw/видео.html
Thanks for this video! I have the same gearbox on a 6 ft. Your video was exactly spot on and made this job quick and easy!
We are glad it helped you! Thanks for dropping by. Brad&Deb
No need to disassemble the gear box. Seal can be removed after removing pto shaft
true we did it that way in this video ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Thanks for this video I've always wanted to see how these old units come out thanks it's sure helps
You're welcome. We also did a video from the front: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Great video thanks, I’ll be getting a brush hog soon. I’ve had a King Kutter before 👍
Yes you will! I brush hogged ALL DAY today at the farm with that one. Everything is greening up and the high was 71....great Florida day!! Take care. Brad&Deb
Very good video...thanks
Thank you. Here's another way to do it: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Nice work! I had to pull the stump jumper on my Land Pride like a month after I bought it because the snap ring and seal fell out of the bottom of the gearbox. Like to never got the stump jumper off!
I ratchet strap a long pry bar to put downward pressure on the stump jumper, then loosed the big nut but leave it on the threads and tap it with sledge hammer. Hasn''t failed me yet, but I've heard of some that don't wanna drop. I brought home one of my other BHs yesterday to change the seal using a different method. Went 13 years without one leaking, then 2 of mine started leaking last year! Thanks for watching, Lucas. B&D.
In West Texas I run half stp and half 140 weight gear oil
Works great 👍
Lukas hub oil with 140 w oil ok to
Thanks for a grt video!! I hv the same issue!!
Here's another way you can try it: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Wish you had given seal part number. As far as the snap ring that gave you trouble take an old pair of snap ring pliers and grind the points off square and set them to open. Works like a charm!
The Amazon link is in the description. Gearbox Input Seal: amzn.to/397HBiA
Black Permatex: amzn.to/3xsGfrQ
Also, here's another way we did it: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
run small screws into seal and pull over shaft.
Like this: ruclips.net/user/shortsPSq9zADw25Q
them gaskets are also shims to get the right backlash in your gears
good info.
Think you

11:30 Those flange bolts don’t go all the way through to the inside do they? It would have been nice to be able to use one of them to drain old oil.
Not sure if it will matter but you re-assembled it clocked one set of holes counter clockwise. There is a small boss that started out on the bottom and is now at about 4 o'clock. It's for the oil to drain back behind that bearing. Might never be a problem but then again it might.
Is it a comer A13 gear box? A guy I know his had bad gear box bearings so it ate up the seals!!
All that is necessary to disassemble is the driveline from input shaft. Then pry out old seal and then tap in the new seal. No need to disassemble gearbox!
We did one that way as well in this video: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
Yep, same process on my King Cutter Tiller. Just pry out seal, clean up shaft and then press in new seal. No need to disassemble the gearbox.
@@1966poker taking it apart lets you inspect the teeth and the bearings.
Water in the gear lube causes that on the teeth. Notice the rust on some of the teeth?? Gear boxes sweat and thats why yearly oil changes are required.
Very possible! It's been through a lot.....and a lot more since this video. Still turning strong though.
Are you by any chance close to grand ridge or sneads Florida
Not really, we're more west of there. I hear that's pretty country over that way. B&D
How long do these gear boxes last?
I put a lot of hard hours on this brush hog over 12 years and it's still going strong. Check out this same brush hog in this video: ruclips.net/video/2LtKLLMwSRE/видео.html
They make a seal remove tool
We used a screw in this video: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
All brush cutters are " bush Hoggs" in my book just like any soda is a coke. Just how it is brother.
My father in law told me years ago before you was born maybe to put gun grease in it instead of gear oil mine never leaked since it was thicker it wouldn’t through it all out if it did start to leak
It didn’t hurt it
that is definitely a quick fix if you don't want to reseal it. Thanks for watching.
@@PineyGroveHomestead that wasn’t to fix it it was to prevent it from ever happening it would also run cooler
Yes gun grease and Lukas hub oil or stp
Where did you get the gasket
Which gasket? I reused the split line gasket and put permatex on it to seal around the bolts. The input seal is linked in the description below....from Amazon. Thanks for watching.
It's on the housing that's on the front cover that holds its front seal on the upper shaft output
You also produce your great video my compliments When I pulled the shaft out this the gear did not come out with it it's still in the housing?
@@rissajones1562 I did it a different way in this video: ruclips.net/video/J3ZDwyGa1O4/видео.html
This is a picture of the housing off the gear did not come off.
Best to put a 5 gallon plastic bucket with slut cut out over the gear box when not using helps

Why, oh why do people feel the need to play music in the video?
And why so loud?
thanks for watching
I thought it was Bush Hog
Bush Hog is a brand name like Ford, or Kubota, so we try to stay away from calling it that. They also call them rotary cutters.
Poor design. The input shaft should have two substantial bearings at least 2"apart.
I'm not an engineer but this thing has taken some abuse! Still running years later.
