That would be a "moving iron" driver, common in older (pre-WWII) radio headsets, low cost general purpose headsets, and older pre-1970s telephone handsets. Still in use in some very specialized instances today. Those Telex 610s were a common sight in school classrooms for many years, and are still available through certain channels as the Califone 610, albeit now with more modern transducers. If you're interested in messing about with moving iron drivers, pick up a Superex Sensiphone headset. They're all over eBay and a lot easier to disassemble and mod than the Telex sets.
