    Whenever I ask someone how to play chords up the neck they tell me to learn the CAGED system, I did go down that rabbit hole for a while, but it just seemed so overkill for what I wanted. In reality this was all I needed to unlock more voicings and to allow me to move past the GDC trap that I've been in for years. I am so grateful, thank you a million times over.

    • @Mulberry2000
      @Mulberry2000 2 месяца назад +2

      The problem with the cage system is its all barre chords, then once you learn it people say its not about barre chords grrr. The Cage system is damn hard and takes a long time to learn due the said barre chords. People who love this system says it helps you to learn the neck, but to do that you have to know all the notes on the fret board by hear. So if you know all the notes by heart, you will know each note and its relation to each other making the cage system redundant.

    To create the Em at 4:00 you can simply remove the middle finger and keep the first finger where it is. This is an Em7 which sounds nice too.

    Thanks Andy this helps a lot. My music theory is grainy at best so can you tell me... if using the c shape on the 10th fret to make a g. Would that mean it’s a g in the key of c? Basically what I mean is. Does the shape determine the key of the chord?

    • @charliepoe4935
      @charliepoe4935 4 года назад +2

      The key is like the group if chords. The key of G includes G, D, Em, C, Am, Dm, and Bdim. Ever notice you never see songs in G with A#? That's because it isn't in the key. The key of C includes C, Dm, Em, G, Am, F. Playing a different chord doesn't change the key.
