Questioner: My name is Laxmi, I am a journalist. I have two questions the first one is on family planning. I was told by another Muslim friend of mine that you don’t encourage family planning. Now I’m sure probably my grandmother’s generation were more than happy to produce 10-15 children but given the state of affairs today I mean how is it possible to put a stop if you don’t have family planning?
Dr. Zakir: Sister’s asked 2 questions. Very good questions but long answers. First question is family planning that she said that, the sister, in my grand mother’s time, produce more children, good but now the world is changing. Let see whether your grandmother is right or you are right.
Now is Islam as far as family planning is concerned, family planning is a big word but there is unanimous agreement that as far as permanent method is concerned all the Islamic scholars everyone agreed that it is Haram, Tubectomy, Vasectomy its prohibited. Even abortion it’s prohibited unless it is to save the life of the mother, in that case you can do a permanent method, you can do abortion. For example the doctor tells you that that the lady has heart problem and if she conceives again it may be a danger to her life or if she has multiple cesarean sections 3, 4, 5 one more child will be detrimental to her health then any method is permitted. So as far as permanent methodis concerned, abortion is concerned, unanimous agreement it is Haraam because Qur’an says in Surah Anam in ch. No. 6 verse no. 151 that
“Kill not your children for want of sustenance for its Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala), All Mighty God who will give sustenance to you and your children.”
The message is repeated in Surah Isra Ch. No. 17 verse no. 31
“Kill not your children for want of sustenance for it is Allah Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala), All Mighty God who gives sustenance to you and your children.”
Here we realize based of this verse of the Qur’an killing children is prohibited.
Further more as far as temporary method is concerned I being a medical doctor, as far as contraception is concerned the most common is the Copper T and we learnt in the Medical College that it’s a contraception but we realized that its not a contraception, it’s a contra implantation. The Ovum and the sperm has already met, they formed the Zygote but it is a very early abortion. It’s called as contraception, the right technical word is Contra Implantation. And if you let your imagination a bit ahead it is nothing but an early abortion. So this too is prohibited. The difference of opinion as far as temporary method is concerned. But our beloved Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) one person approached the Prophet and said that he used to do Azal i.e. coitus interruptes breaking the act and preventing the fluid of the male to enter the female’s body. The Prophet was silent. Now one group of scholars said that because the prophet was silent he permitted. The other group of scholars said because he was silent he prohibited. Difference of opinion but let’s get back to the main reason...

😭😭this clears my long guilt for tubectomy as the doctor told me my life would be in danger if i go for the 5th cesarian....i always felt guilt...Alhamdulillah Doctor Naik...jazakAllahu khairan...it lays off some big heavy weight from my heart.

Humans kids need much more than just food. They need mental and emotional nourishment. I respect u but I respectfully disagree with u. And why do u want to be super power? I don’t understand. Every country should have enough to feed their people and take care of their basic needs. There are slums in India due to too much population. I guarantee if India had less people than there wouldn’t be so much poverty.

I agree with you on contraception and abortion. Abortion is prohibited. That is precisely why family planning and contraception is done so you don't end up committing a sin. You mention that you are the fifth child and you are successful, and nobel prize winners were not firstborns, etc. That proves nothing to little, because the whole population should be looked at as a whole and statistical data should be used so that point is invalid. Secondly, the problem is not merely the government policies, but also that resources are limited. Overpopulation leads to increased demand, so supply is short and prices increased. Please address my points

Contraceptive is allowed in Islam, only abortion has been outlawed. Abortion is the killing of the fetus while contraceptive is preventing the formation of fetus.

Imagine a man who has no studies in Arabic talking about an Arabic text via translation, not to mention there are hundreds of different translations which are slightly different. It’s the same reason why we Muslims read the Arabic text using Arabic, even though the majority of us don’t speak Arabic; it is done in order for the meaning not to be changed. How could David woods put the Quran into context if he has no background or studies in the Arabic grammar, punctuation, literature, e.t.c?

As always Dr Zakir Naik hasn't failed to impress me, these references he gave I couldn't find anywhere on the net, however I am here to ask one more question.Sir the Quran prohibits killing children but technically speaking, ensoulment takes place after 120 days at the least so the child is not alive at all and abortion is not killing then.Therefore abortion must be haram or prohibited after 120 days but before it, it must not pose a problem.As for why I want abortion, let's say I don't like or want children at all.
It's simple to not to have sex before you want children. Why bother about abortion.

Be responsible for both & take care of them. Give both of them there rights and be just with them. Always reconcilate between them if they ever fight and try not to take any sides (unless one of them is being oppressed by another) Indeed your mother is a key to your paradise and you have to be best to your wife.

@@10oneluv10 Alhamdulillah . You will have very many responses to your question. It's our nature to want to get married and also to have children. We may not want children when we're young but will definitely need them later. Also, most women cannot not have children even when they start marriage saying otherwise. The point of marriage is having children. Other things come as bonus. And yes some control methods are halal but not wanting children is very difficult reason to justify especially after a few years in marriage. Worship means we do what it Master wants even if it's not what we want.
