JUST GETTING STARTED
Carolyn Arends
With thanks to Chris Hall, Nathan Foster and Jill Hamer-Wilson for inspiration
Back when we were kids, every day we would wish
We could just hurry up and get older
All our days soon obliged and went whistling by
And now time marches on like a soldier
There have been moments, so sweet and so good
I would have frozen the frame if I could
Oh but we’re more like movies than photographs
And everything’s moving so fast … but …
This is the Preface to the Introduction
The Opening Act in an endless production
This is a map that we haven’t yet charted
We’re just getting started
And these are but tastes of the banquet before us
The music is great, but just wait for the chorus
From delivery rooms to the dearly departed …
We’re just getting started
Now the miles all fly in the blink of an eye
But it’s still a good race we are running
And it matters so much because it’s taking us
On the journey that is our becoming
All that we love, all the choices we make
They make us and shape us till one day we take
Every age we have been, every song we’ve sung
Into the Age that’s to Come …. ‘cause …
Chorus
Every wound we bear, every joy we share
Hints at something greater
Every sad farewell we whisper now
Is really “see you later” …
Chorus

Great to see you still singing and serving the Lord! I saw you around 1996 or 97...you were one of the opening acts for Steven Curtis Chapman, and it was the National Day Of Prayer! I got front row seats for my birthday and it was a great great show. His song was that year's anthem for NDoP and he led the audience in prayer. I also remember getting your "Feel Free" album which I still listen to!
So fun! Glad to reconnect all these years later.
@@CarolynArends I'm glad you are connecting with your fans. So many don't have the time, but I'm always appreciative of those who do. :)
Thank you Carolyn - words from your heart lodge in my heart ❤️
❤
Thank you.
You're welcome!
thank you for this encouragement and wisdom in your art music once again this morning on my patio ..through so many of my seasons of life...now 62 years young...to keep focus on just getting started....I love your music...Go with God....
Thanks, Joanne. It makes me happy to picture you listening on your patio. ☀️
Great poetry and wonderful performance once again. Thank you for sharing this, Carolyn.
Thanks for listening, David!
Thanks so much, I needed that song of hope. I hadn't heard it before.
❤️
One of my favourites....I miss her too. ❤️🙏
❤️
Carolyn - It's so good to encounter your lyrical genius when so much of "Christian" music today is filled with mind-numbing, repetitive choruses merely serving as preliminary accompaniment to some variation of an "ooo-oooooh-ooo-oooooh" singalong which has the lasting impact of a vapor. Thank you for consulting your Creator before you compose a song! You're always a blessing.
Thank you, Ron. There is something to be said for simple, repetitive songs as well, but I'm glad my wordiness resonates with you!
Wow. Just Wow. I love it! Wow. I praise our Lord and Father for blessing you with these gifts of word and song... so He could then bless us through them. Thank you for sharing... and thankful and happy to have you back on your feet again! Sharing this on FB now...
Thanks so much, Scott!
I'm finding it challenging to come up with the appropriate words to express how much I appreciate your music and this song in particular. So, for now I'll just say, "thank you," Carolyn.
Received from the heart. Thanks, Brian.
Carolyn, you are such an encouragement! Thank you for feeding the lake so beautifully and faithfully.
Thanks, Laura. For your encouragement - and for the feeding the lake reminder! ❤️
Thank you for this video. It was a wonderful way to start my day. Be careful in the sun! God bless.
Thanks, Norma! And happy, burn-free summer to you, too!
Wonderful, one of my favs, goes great with "Reaching" also!!!
Thanks, Bob. Yes, Reaching and this one are both in the same zone for me, too.
Thank you for bringing this song back. I love the imagery you paint with your lyrics. This has become one of my favorites of your songs, though, I first heard it only a year ago... sorry, I'm still catching up on songs I've missed through the years since I retired almost 2 years ago. Hey, I'm just getting started....😉
That's right! (And thanks!)
You are an amazing wordsmith! Thank you for sharing this heartfelt song.
Thanks so much!
Beautiful. I needed that.
❤️
Love it; this is one I'd like to hear the story behind. Seems like those lyrics just fell into place for you (with some help from Someone). Glad you survived Covid.
Thanks, Maverick. Yeah, the development on this one was a slow burn of conversations, readings, ideas, relationships ... and then boom, there it was!
😴🎶🎵
😊
WOW 😳. This is something I will have to hang on my wall framed. I might copy it in calligraphy. With your name of course on it. Is that legal? When I get money I'll order the album if it's on one. Godspeed Carolyn. 🙏
Thank you! I'd be honoured for you to create the lyrics in calligraphy! Blessings.
