i fire HE in tier X meds all day(Patton,T62A,121B,M60), if you know how and where to pen enemy tanks you skyrocket your DPB, credits earned, and fun ofc :)

the problem with the premium hesh is that it has no disadvantage to nonpremium hesh. so that actually reduces the in game choices. what I think they should do is reduce a little bit the premuim hesh damage and increase the nonpremium hesh damage for all tanks that have these shells (and make reloadtime reajustments if necessary) with that change those tanks would be far more interesting and skilled to play
Wait until you fluff a hesh shot and deal 30 damage for 4k criedts, onto the side skirt of a tank and damage the track. While it will allow you to destroy a target with 1 less round, it can also cause you to have to use a couple of extra rounds to destroy, there no reliable. Also you'll kick your self every time you hit a hesh shot that a HE shot could have pen'd for a fraction of the cost
*Well, my thoughts on HESH, Centurion Mk.7/1, and L7B.* I've played the Centurion Mk.7/1 since 2014 and rode its rollercoaster. This is all concluded due to my play-style and experience using the Centurion Mk.7/1. I will continue in Replies to avoid spam.
I'm going to back up my conclusion and play-style with stats. Win Rate: 63% - Battles: 1,572 - Average Dmg: 2,233 - Total Dmg: 3 million. It's a wonderful tank. Been nerfed horrendously and it's at a place where a player has to be dedicated to learn it. Respect the Centurion Mk.7/1, it's extremely dangerous in the right hands. I've fought against better players in it, and it's not fun when you get nailed by the 105mm L7 platform.
- HESH in WoTB is basically a weak-spot amplifier. If you can pen the lower-glacis of a tank with the APCR, you can do higher damage with the HESH with the added bonus of killing or damaging crews and modules. When the HESH does not have a clean penetration, it will do poor or mediocre HE splash and may or may not damage modules in the process, it does however, have higher bounce chances. That being said, HESH has more extreme penetration angles than AP and APCR. Using HESH is a gamble. It needs a clean spot to be able to do the gambling damage of high 370s to a mid 460s. - The Centurion Mk.7/1. Premium HESH (P-HESH) is the Mk.7/1's primary ammunition because of how my play-style is effective to the tank. I play it either as second-line support or frontline support using Hull-Down Position. The Mk.7/1 is not a true medium tank, it plays as a hybrid of a Med and TD. The 8.4 second reload with Gun Rammer (use with L7A1), or 8.9 second reload with Calibrated Shells [use with L7B (HESH gun)]. Due to the Mk.7/1's reload, it is not capable of defending itself unless strictly using L7B using Calibrated Shells or L7A1 using Gun Rammer. The tradeoff is you have to be able know when to switch shells, like how Bushka said. - The L7B. I strictly use the HESH gun with Calibrated Shells. It will raise your P-HESH's penetration from 210 to 230. That is massive buff in damage and chance to damage modules, but you trade off .5 seconds of reload and HEAT shells. In this case, your APCR will be your HEAT shell and your Premium HESH will become your primary ammo. Your Standard HESH is *only* for clear shots on RHM, WT, Grille, and rear (direct rear) of tanks. The Centurion Mk.7/1 now performs as an aggressive Tank Destroyer and/or a dedicated Medium. You need to be able to change position and nail all your HESH and know when to switch to using APCR. Because of it's weird properties, you can use HESH at weird angles and brawl with Tier 10 Heavies in certain situations. *You will lose Credits*. I think I have somewhat been doing this decently and sometimes I lose around 3-5k Credits at the cost of 2k or 3k damage without Premium Garage. You will gain a hefty chunk of Credits with Premium Garage.
I play the smasher like an aggressive medium because of the he pen being so high, along with having the heat shells to pen anything a bit bigger. You have to learn which shell to use when
Great information! I have been completely confused about using different rounds in certain situations. Getting better now though! I had a battle early on when I started where I did just over 4000 damage but could of done way more because I was using premium ammo the whole battle and didn't have the presence of mind to change rounds.
Besides a few token rounds of AP , my cruel twist is all about HESH and HEAT for heavies (anything not heavy is eating HESH) struggled on the cruel twist untill I learnt this .
Very nice, my friends are biased against this tank (and tanks before, after it) and instead defend their counterparts (mainly german ones). Videos like these helps defend my cause
British line has the special consumables AND HESH, the French have the autoloaders, the Russians have Bias, the American line has the gun depression, damn when are the Japanese and German lines getting some love 😐

As far as i know, if u got hit by this HESH especially from Death Star. That would be very hurt, its like you being stab right in the neck and repeatedly. And suddenly your mood being dropped to 0% to continue the game

Played a round in my lovely Ru 251, almost all the enemies I could pen with HE. Some enemy nub got butt hurt cuz I destroyed them with my HEP and they typed “Ru nub HE spamming”

No, I've had the centurion for quite while. And have played the game since it came out. Believe me, if the cent didnt have hesh I wouldn't be playing it after researching the fv4202. Run calibrated shells, those make the hesh pen 220mm that is more than enough to penetrate every tier X tank frontally, not even talking about the sides. If you have skill you are a devastating opponent to people with hesh

Thing bout the Cent is that you gotta make those shots count. Otherwise, you'll be losing credits faster than the British Empire dissolving.

The only thing that i can see that would discourage people from the centurion 7/1 is its stock grind and maybe its speed.
Life is too short for stock grinds! Do everyone a favor and use free EXP to upgrade your tanks before you start the grind.

High Explosive Squash Head is used in the 183 because it was designed for it in the 60s-50s to counter against Russian Tanks.
