That would look great with proper sealing, sanding, painting and gold leaf.
that's what I was thinking. Some pyrography to establish hard lines, acrylic paint, wood stain, gold leaf and an epoxy finish.
But then it would make less than 10k a week ;)

cool I will try to cnc my familly coat of arms
depending on the material and finishing if i dont have a tool setter on a machine, i prefer to use a 123 block to set the z height. it helps avoid a crash. i would have roughed that out with something bigger first to speed up the process. i'd also try to fill the table with work to cut down on tool changes. one thing i've really liked is that i built a simple enclosure for the router i use, for wood its great because i just run air blast on the tool to keep the path clear of dust, and for aluminum it keeps the coolant mist out of the air.

Wow, how long did that toolpath take to execute? when I saw you starting directly with the 2mm tool I was pretty surprised that you weren't hogging the material out first with a bigger endmill. I'm new to this, though....
thats true I was working cutting dies of aluminum with a XYZ millenium cnc router outputting abot 30+ dies/day and each will go for 100buks the least upto 2500 USD and if you add a counter die way more each, so you can make a ton of money it is possible you have to sell a lot and market as well, be friend with the phone.

@@rogerwebb9600 Thank you Roger have a great time wit your family, I would like to be in Australia instread of this crazy cold in Canada. I really like working with the CNC machines. Now I am building a SLA 3D printer, Ill show you if it works when it is done.
By the way I did not think others would use the art cam, I also used it to create the logo for a restsauration of an old ferrari and a new emblem in pltinum for a rich dude, now I use other software since my original background is 3D animation and Games, I use these blender with Design Spark to create complex models and import them in CAD CAM software to machine them.

Saw a guy at a festival that would take a picture off of your phone, camera, whatever, and carve it in a slab of wood while you walked around enjoying the fair.
The guy had a stack of orders by the end of the day, and either worked all night, or had to mail the rest when he got home.

Hi Roger, I am new to your channel, think this is only the second video I have watched with the first being a programming/design instruction. I was surprised at the beginning when you were centering the machine that you loosened and adjusted the spindle to accommodate the cut depth. I am curious what the benefit is of doing this over raising your material? I can only think that maybe this is a new machine and you have not fully setup the bed layers or that possibly you just finished a larger project requiring more height... Looking forward to seeing more projects and revisiting your previous ones.
Our school(In Finland) has one of those but wayy smaller too bad they never bothered to tell us you could have done this kind of cool stuff with it

A school can only teach you technical skills. A CNC machine is just a tool. Creativity on the other hand you have to come up on your own. That’s why a great teacher would challenge their students to come up with their own creative ideas to realize one’s potential.

Looking great! Just wondering why you use the detail drill bit for carving the entire thing? Why not use a big rough drill bit to first carve out the most of the wood and then change to the smaller higher detail bit? I think you could cut it much faster, and plus save your fine working drill bit. Cheers!

Hey Roger... Idea to try.. How about trying to make a TOTEM POLE on the 4th axis. Show us how to do it from some art work.... would be awesome...
That looks like exactly the same spindle they use on Axiom routers and that in itself isn't an industrial spindle. What was the machine time on that job because I certainly can't see 4 of those being finished per day 8hours at that feedrate (maybe something smaller). Job setup, Pre-machine and post machine work takes up a lot of time.

There’s no “catch to it” it’s a business. You have to work the business. If you’re into it for a hobby then this may not be your machine. But if you’re into it as a business and “you work it” it may be your machine. Don’t by such a machine and expect $$ to fall from out of sky. Having said that a lot of people have made a successful business from their hobby.

Nice carve. I was wondering if you got a new CNC Router? And if so, what one? Looks nice! I found it curious that as the bit was slowing in X/Y to rise or lower in the Z cut, that the wood burned slightly. This is a problem with mach3 controller software for the cnc. It is not able to calculate the path fast enough for complex paths

I'm resurrecting an old buiz and seeing the need for a 'kitter' to produce routed kits of my RC foamie planes. Many of the planes are one sheet of either Dollar Tree posterboard foam or Ross posterboard. I have a question.
The material to be routed is a paper veneered foam so router has to be quite sharp and clean but very little is required to move it through the material. I could utilize a kitter that can carry each order through received through to fulfillment in shipping, or if the CNC in this instance is not expensive, I may do it myself and later expand.
Do you have any recommendations as to the CNC I would need. Resources are scarce and I know little about the cnc programs except they are similar to the ones I used to program basic in the early 90's. I do understand drawing etc but not much in the way of CAD however I do have connections that can vector draw any of my designs from PDF and possibly some that can convert them to cutting files.
Have a look at some of my laser and Carveco videos, you are still looking at over $12,000 + tax
Nice video Roger. IMHO, your bit may last longer if you route with the grain instead of against it.
But you'll get a cleaner cut when running against it.
I'd love to see your content in at least 1080p resolution. Everything seem a blur and makes it feel really 1980' which is a shame as you do a lot of good stuff Roger. Why not treat yourself to a camera upgrade?

Roger, love your videos. I dream of being able to reach your level some day. I have an issue I'm hoping to get some advice on. I tried doing something similar to this coat of arms but with a 911 communications department patch. I used Vectric Aspire 9.0 to set it up. I used a 2.8 degree 1mm ball nose for the finish pass and no matter how small I set the stepover (last attempt was 3% stepover) the edges of the raised portions do not have a smooth edge, they are rippled. Any tips to do away with that? I have noticed in Aspire since I traced an image captured online to do this the lines when zoomed in are not smooth, they are jagged. Could that be the cause?

Looks like the feed rate was a bit high, when you had excessive Z motion you burned the wood a bit.
the tool become blunt. its cutting to mutch get to hot. more steps in depth would be better or diamond tools
@@isisrufus diamond tools cut extremely slow. They also can't transfer heat away very well.
I do manual wood turning a lot, the easiest way to work fast is wetting the tool all the time, as soon as you feel it gets warm in your hand.
The edge retaining is much better that way.

Hey. I just got a 20 watt CO2 laser engraver and I think it's working very well. Makes me wonder how they would compare doing the same stuff. Does your machine use a 256 grey scale image? 800x800?

Amazing! However, I don't think that designing such a 3D job will take only one day!!!
Its doable using ZBrush for example. Its an easy sculpt once the design is decided on. Might need to export the object into Fusion 360 to clean up though.

This was my personal preference for this job, you can set the start of the program in any corner or the middle it is what works for you at the time of programming

It looks like your feeds are too slow as it appears to be burning the wood. Won't this shorten the tool life?
You are correct. Although, carbide isn't affected by the heat. He should jump up the speed.
Not just jump up the speed do roughing using larger tools and remachine only with the smaller ones progressively he is literally taking 100 times longer than what it needs so I can't understand making 1000 a day the sales would be hard enough maybe a few days 1000 each day
@@togowack by just going with the final bit, you don't need to go over the same piece with different bits. I think this way is faster, but he is going really slow...

You could save time and $$$ by using a larger tool to remove most of the material and just finish using a small bit

Totally Agree. He is making 4-5 of these a day, he could be making 4-5 per hour. Also he is killig his finishing tool as it rubbs on all that stock material wenn moving in Z. So the Qualitiy of the parts that would come out with a proper Roughing-finishing Strategy would be much better. All just at the cost of a single toolchange. So I think this is a very poor way to utilize the maschine. Best regards.

Epic_Jan it depends on the costumer who is buying it..
Example: A poor person won't even pay few dollars for it but for the rich they will definitely pay top dollars for the sake of aesthetic if they want to have it
