@@lubintasevski5985 so do I. 4:08 is misleading at best. Less megapixels doesn't mean cleaner images. If you downscale the images to the same size, they will exhibit (nearly) identical noise with no discernible difference. The amount of high ISO visible noise is purely a function of sensor area, design and process technology, not of megapixels, especially with modern gap-less on-chip lenses for the image sensor. Most modern imaging sensors are at the edge of what is possible and run into photon noise (shot noise) at high ISOs anyways, that is why there's barely any advancement in high ISO performance in 10 years time. Older sensors like the D800 are still in the top 20.
Jered....Most wedding photographers do not want the huge files of high MP cameras. Heavy cropping is not the norm. Great ISO performance and AF are most desired. 20mp is a sweet spot that can produce beautiful 20x30 prints.

@@hajime5486 I just switched from Sony to Nikon for that reason. Well others too. But with my z7/z7iis I can choose medium raw 24mp when I want then get the full 45 when I’m not doing events. Honestly don’t know why Sony doesn’t have that option with the RIV.
@@elliotresnick5433 it seems like a no brained to me. I HATED taking hundreds of 60mp into Lightroom and I don’t want to be buying different cameras for different occasions. All the cameras have great AF, sorry nikons can’t track a bullet mid air yet like sony but I’ve never been a situation where I need that yet lol.
Short version: They don’t, at all. I have not used a 5D4, but have used an R a bit. For most uses, I would take the R. I upgraded from the 6D2 (which i think is a very good camera), and can tell it does not belong in the same sentence with the R5. It does have 26mp, vs the 20 of the R6, bit all things considered, it does not belong in the same sentence with the R6, either. Again, not bagging on the earlier Canon’s. They are great cameras.....but no, they do not hold a candle to these.
I personally think my 5dmkiv still looks usable at 12.800ISO if there is not a lot of fine detail in the frame. I will definitely use noise reduction and than slightly bump up the sharpness or texture depending on what looks best.
Check out the video Potato Jet made on the R6 for real life footage. He had tons of issues with the autofocus. Don't know if a firmware update fixed it or not though.
@@marcusnartatez yes it was for video, some people have an interest in that or use their camera as a hybrid. Thank you for clarifying that. Do you own a R6?

I don't usually comment but I wanted to say thank you for your awesome videos and this one especially. Was thinking which one I should save for and was on the fence for the R6. Would be nice though to see a comparison between the RP and R6.
Between the two, I'd pick the R5. I mostly shoot stills so overheating is no issue for me But as good as they are, they are a relatively poor value compared to other FF mirrorless cameras out there so in the real world using my own money, I don't think I'd buy either R cameras at current prices.
@@fintanmctiernan8284 dude he said that they're too expensive for what they are and then I added that they both have overheating issues which is a well-known fact. And then you added just try it which makes no sense
These cameras have been out for a few months now. If you're still unsure as to which one to get because they have so many similarities then the answer is actually very simple: Get the R6 The R5 is a fantastic camera... IF you make use of all it's features. And if you've been unsure of which one to get then you don't need the features the R5 offers because you don't yet know what you want/need to do with the camera. The R6 has many of the best elements of the R5. Take that money saved in the price difference and put that to one of the dozen other things that can potentially go in to taking better photos. A lens, lights, etc. Or just hang on to that money for something else. And you'll be saving more money than the $1,400 price difference. In order to make the most use of the R5 you need that CF express card. Those are expensive. And editing the files (especially the video) from the R5 is an absolute pain. So be prepared to spend more to upgrade your hardware. Even the 4k video from the R6 can test a lot of systems, but the R5 most certainly will. The R5 is the camera of choice if you know you actually need what it has to offer. If you don't know what you need or you don't frequently find a need to use what the R5 offers then the R6 is a much, much better value. You're getting most of the best parts of the R5, but with features you're more likely to use more often, and at a much cheaper price.
This is exactly what I was thinking, I’ve made my mind up to go for the R6. The remainder of my budget will go on an RF Lens and a RF converter for my EF lenses.
I shoot a lot of high school wrestling. Not always the best lighting. Would the R6 be able to handle the low light and fast movement with out blurring. At a higher speeds?
I hate that they crippled program modes (Pr, Fv, Ae, Tv) in video on the R6. It's not a deal breaker. Well, actually it is. At least so far for me. Surprised you didn't bring that up. It's either full up green Auto or full manual. There is no in between.
With a Clean ISO 12800 basic you can basic shoot with a mega Zoom Len with f11( f 5.6 is for sure, F11 is pushing it and over state since I have a shaky hand ) handheld in low light, since it have 8 stop of IBIS. I am not a Canon shooter but just from the specs and experience, I makes this comments.
Have had my R6 for three months and I’m amazed that Canon gave it so much for the price. It’s focus is amazing and fast. Was with Sony for years after fed up with Canon. Came back to canon for R6. Picture quality is the best I’ve had so far.
@@khalidmusican9779 Just look it up. I would buy one if you can get a good price and you'll use it. I just recently used it and the ISO can go pretty high and didn't degrade the picture. I was shocked.
@@fintanmctiernan8284 Yes, R6 is slightly better than R5 in low light. But the difference is much smaller than one would think based on difference in pixel size. So for my wildlife photography needs the R5 is the better choice.

I currently have a Canon 80D. I have to admit that I'm happy with it, but have considered upgrading. Is there that much of a difference in picture quality from the 80D to the R6 which is the one that I'll probably go with due to price. I shoot mostly landscape, and motorsport/sports events (Nascar, NHRA, Indy, Minor league baseball) along with airshows.
Hey Jared great video, its 2021, Nikon d850 or R6, hybrid shooter, Using a Sony a6400 for couple dance videos. What do you think? Im looking for a cam for photos mainly but if it can do video better than a6400 thats a plus only.
The higher native ISO is only a 1 stop difference. How often are you going to shoot ISO 102,400? Unless you incorrectly believe that the lower MP count will give it better noise performance. (It won't)
Nice review. Great cameras. The video is better than the z6 video in the past, but not significantly and it's your business so it's good that you do the very best presentation possible. I agree that at this time you can't really go wrong with any of these modern cameras, as they all do a fantastic job. I have to hand it to Canon for the rf glass and the top quality bodies. I am not sure I would buy a canon DSLR at this time as they are really focused on moving users to the rf system for good reasons. Nikon is probably the best choice for DSLR fans. Sony finally has a worthy competitor in mirrorless. I really like the new Nikon z glass also and would expect they will have a great pro body soon, as their z6/7ii bodies have a lot of promise. When sigma and tamron get to support all 3 manufacturers there will be a strong reason to move off DSLR, but for the entry level photographer the value vs quality still goes to the low cost APS bodies like the D3400 and canon equivalents which are still amazing cameras in the right hands. One thing I think people overlook is that if you switch to mirrorless you will want to get new glass as it's much better and quieter, so really look at all 3 manufacturers and don't stick with what you already have as it's a really big investment worth putting a lot of thought into. Don't listen to fanboys.
Depends on how big the new stimulus check will be. I have 3 kids. I can get the R6 and feed them or I can get the R5 and let them starve. Should I get the R5 or R6?
I can fly to NYC, have a crazy weekend on Manhattan and buy R5 there and still have some cash left for a couple of beers for a price of one R5 in the cheapest store on sale here in EU (that would be roughly $5700) For most people here it's a difference between spending 3 or 2 years of savings on body only. And another 3 years on one L lens.
The question you should be asking yourself: Have you considered cannibalism? Do you need kids? What do you love more, kids or gear? Kids can work to feed themselves, get the camera... jk. Honestly, most people don't need to upgrade their camera if they bought them in the last few years, doesn't matter the brand. Buying a body should be a must if you can't get shots you need with what you have. This is pretty much a sales video for Canon. For me a great selling feature is the silent shutter, but I've tried it in a broadcast studio and the banding is horrible. You have to play around with the shutter until you get something usable and that may affect how steady your shots are if you can't get your shutter at a fast enough speed. For me, I'll wait until they make a silent shutter that is global.
I want to meet you I love your videos they are fun, entertaining, and informative before I realize it I’ve watched the whole thing as I did this one . I don't believe C-RAW is 12 bit. I use it all the time especially for high volume photo shoots like weddings. There is no perceptible difference (if none at all) in quality between RAW and C-RAW. It saves a ton of card and disk space.
I have red from multiple sources that C-RAW is 12-bit. But the quality is really good though. If shooting ISO 800 or higher other factors are masking any differences. But at lowest ISO there could be some very slight differences in DR. P.S. When using ES the R5 is always using 12-bit readout. And in H+ mode (with MS / EFCS) the sensor readout is capped at 13-bit.
Actually I think that I remembered wrong 😔😅. At least I couldn't find those references to C-RAW being 12-bit. So its compression doesn't seem to drop the bit depth. Here is a nice comparison that shows that only at very high ISO + heavy post processing brings up differences (see the last photo): fstoppers.com/education/there-any-quality-difference-between-raw-and-craw-new-canon-mirrorless-cameras-527209

@@Daedroh yea, the more I read up on the R6 the more trepidatious I am becoming. In reality, the R6 would likely serve my purpose before it overheats and I would need to let it cool down, but then again I love shooting 4k 60, so I would probably experience overheating more than most. I kind of like the comfort of knowing that I would never have to worry about that with the A7S3. Plus, the A7Siii has a true 14 stops of dynamic range, compared to the R6's 11(still pretty good tho). Video is defintely comparable, but then there is the eyeball test. And I dont know what it is specifically, but side by side, I like the A7Siii's image more, 9/10 times. Its just so close to video perfect, I think I'm going to shell out the extra money. Also, I saw a clip of the R6 with some really weird IBIS wobble using wide angles. Thats a no go for me I think.
@@sandboxaperture7013 Just a heads up on IBIS wobble. That’s a universal issue and isn’t unique to the R6 or Canon. Any camera with IBIS will produce the same effect when recording at an ultra wide angle.
@@brendan_connell that makes sense. I just havnt heard of it happening as much on the A7Siii. But the Sony's In body image stabilization isnt as good as Canon's R5 and R6 anyways. So maybe (just thinking out loud here) because Sony's sensor doesn't shift as much for stabilization effect, you don't have as much issue with the sensor wobble? I'll have to dive into that some more to see if that makes sense.
When are we getting an r replacement/update. I shoot mostly landscapes as an amateur. I can’t justify $4000 for the r5, I’m not wealthy. 2500 for the r6 would be great ......if it was about 30 mp. I do my best not to crop but I’m an amateur. No matter how much time I take to compose a shot I almost always play with the crop in post. Even if I never need the extra 10mp, it’s nice to know it’s there because I would like to print large on occasion and not be hurt by cropping. 30mp with ibis eye and animal af full frame, keep the video at 1080 to save some $ because I will almost never use 4K. especially because I’d have to spend another 3k on a new computer to process 4K. Something like that and I’d spend 2k ish in a heartbeat.
Also if you're playing that much with crop at post you have no idea what you're doing than. Take both close and far shots if you're that undecided. Don't overcrop, that smacks of beyond noob, to boob territory

Ok so I have a question for all of you. Am looking to get a canon. I use it for my RUclips channel which is barber tutorials. My shop hasn’t got the best light and I have led lights. A few years ago I had the Canon 90d which I loved but the issue I had was I got a lot of flicker when it picked up led lighting. Like an idiot I sold it (it really was a beautiful camera) and switched to using my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it dealt with flickering a lot better for the videos. When I am shooting a hair video the phone is on a tripod around a metre away from me and the initial result is ok but when I am editing I have to zoom into the cut to get it close up but it’s then that the picture can pixelate a bit meaning I lose definition especially when I play it back on a larger screen. So. What would you guys recommend for video in lower artificial lights and able to zoom in on post production without pixelation and has to be compatible with Canon Connect. Am happy with either a dslr or mirrorless but would like full frame rather than crop sensor. The videos tend to be shot for around 30 mins. Oh yeah and a fully articulating screen is a must as I need to be able to see on the screen what I am doing. Am happy to go with an older camera as well. Also not really interested in an m50 as it just feels a bit light and flimsy. Really want a camera to feel a bit more on the chunky side with a bit of weight. I’ve tried to be as detailed as possible in what I want so I really hope you guys can help. Thankyou for taking the time to read this

r mark ii might be the answer. just need to wait a bit longer.
I'm in the same situation
I have always agree with the fro when it comes to photography, glass, glass, glass I have two EOS R'S and no plans to buy new bodies , the RF glass is what I'll get first , I only need the Trinity, a true macro and a 35mm 1.2 , then ill get the R5 mkII or whatever is new by then 😆👍
I'm putting money aside every week to upgrade to something of this level, I'm super keen to get my hands on either the R5 or R6. Both are a great investment. Looking at the 24-70 and 70-200 as well
Hi, Garret ! Yes I'm on the same boat. I'm about to save myself. I think it would be a good investment for sure. I'm hoping the price will drop slightly when the R3 becomes available.
Since it has been 5 months already, where you able to save enough for the camera already ?

Well done! I've been shooting with the R6 since launch and haven't been disappointed. As a real estate photographer I shoot over a thousand houses a year and the low light in video and photo are amazing. Do you ever record externally with the atomos ninja v and if so what are your thoughts.

I’m shooting with EF glass. How are the adapters, if you’ve used them?
@@thebrandalorian8271 some of the adapters crop the image from ef lenses
@@PallyGonzalez can you be more specific? Are you talking about canon adaptors? If you choose to use an efs lens, then you need to select 1:6 crop mode. Id argue the r6 is better for weddings. Better low light and editing thousands of 45mp images would be a pain on workflow.
Fair enough good argument

@@hajime5486 I just switched from Sony to Nikon for that reason. Well others too. But with my z7/z7iis I can choose medium raw 24mp when I want then get the full 45 when I’m not doing events. Honestly don’t know why Sony doesn’t have that option with the RIV.
@@robbie154 I agree with your comment about Medium Raw!
It'd be kinda cool to see how the 5D mk IV and 6D mk II hold up against the R5 and R6 respectively
I like your humor and realism.
5:06 I have read some articles / saw videos stating that R5 actually has slightly less rolling shutter effect than R6 🤔. Great video, thanks! 🙂

I don't usually comment but I wanted to say thank you for your awesome videos and this one especially. Was thinking which one I should save for and was on the fence for the R6. Would be nice though to see a comparison between the RP and R6.
I’d love to get an R6 but I can’t get over the 21M pixels. It’s as much as my 7 years old Canon 70D. Come on Canon, for 2K £?
Between the two, I'd pick the R5. I mostly shoot stills so overheating is no issue for me
But as good as they are, they are a relatively poor value compared to other FF mirrorless cameras out there so in the real world using my own money, I don't think I'd buy either R cameras at current prices.

@@eksine Sorry, my reply was associated with the incorrect comment. Thanks for the nice compliment !
These cameras have been out for a few months now. If you're still unsure as to which one to get because they have so many similarities then the answer is actually very simple:
Get the R6
The R5 is a fantastic camera...
The remainder of my budget will go on an RF Lens and a RF converter for my EF lenses.
where do I find the RAW sample photos?
I shoot a lot of high school wrestling. Not always the best lighting. Would the R6 be able to handle the low light and fast movement with out blurring. At a higher speeds?
I hate that they crippled program modes (Pr, Fv, Ae, Tv) in video on the R6. It's not a deal breaker. Well, actually it is. At least so far for me. Surprised you didn't bring that up. It's either full up green Auto or full manual. There is no in between.
tell me about the dynamic range and image quality of these cameras????
Coming from Sony, they are amazing. R6 is a tad better than a7III. I do car photography and need all the DR I can get. R6 is a champ.
Just ordered an R6, can't wait to see how it performs!
The video I was waiting for.... 3 months ago lol. Anyways on your R6 video it was what I needed, so I got the R6 a month ago and man... what a beast!!
Great video Jared. I still don't know which I'm going to pick.
I think Jared is pretty close to switching over to the Canon system.
We have bent so many of the mini hdmi ports too... a real problem on these cameras

Have had my R6 for three months and I’m amazed that Canon gave it so much for the price. It’s focus is amazing and fast.
Was with Sony for years after fed up with Canon. Came back to canon for R6. Picture quality is the best I’ve had so far.
I thought my R6 was broken and almost returned it. The shutter was that quite compared to the A7Riii. Amazing how quiet it is.
R6 is incredible in low light
Can you share your experience if you have this camera, if not yet share the video that supports your opinion, I’m planning to purchase R6.
@@khalidmusican9779 Just look it up. I would buy one if you can get a good price and you'll use it. I just recently used it and the ISO can go pretty high and didn't degrade the picture. I was shocked.
The R5 is excellent in low light. 8000 to 16000 you get very usable images. No experience of R6, but I’m lead to believe it’s excellent as well.
@@fintanmctiernan8284 Yes, R6 is slightly better than R5 in low light. But the difference is much smaller than one would think based on difference in pixel size. So for my wildlife photography needs the R5 is the better choice.
I already have the R6 and it's perfect for my needs - I couldn't be happier with it. If I could get a second camera it would be the R5.

I would go for R6 just for those low light situations
The higher native ISO is only a 1 stop difference. How often are you going to shoot ISO 102,400? Unless you incorrectly believe that the lower MP count will give it better noise performance. (It won't)
@@jimmysyar889 As someone who likes to take astro shots, trust me, we need as little noise as possible. So the R6 would make more sense.

Sell the kids and buy both the R5 and R6, along with full set of f/1.2 primes.
It was nice knowing you, kids.
I can fly to NYC, have a crazy weekend on Manhattan and buy R5 there and still have some cash left for a couple of beers for a price of one R5 in the cheapest store on sale here in EU (that would be roughly $5700)
For most people here it's a difference between spending 3 or 2 years of savings on body only. And another 3 years on one L lens.
Definitely the R5 then
The question you should be asking yourself: Have you considered cannibalism?
When cornrows?
Leftists will go crazy if he does that. Better to avoid doing them.
it's froknowsphoto not rowknowsphoto or cornrowsphoto
13:45 just with electric lens :( It would be more than awesome if can be used with vintage lens :D

Here is a nice comparison that shows that only at very high ISO + heavy post processing brings up differences (see the last photo):

I'd love the A7S3, but the R6 seems like it would give me all I need for a grand less. 4k60 4.2.2 10 bit, great autofucus, great IS. Hmm. Decisions to make.
The only bad thing i've seen about the R6 is that it can overheat.
Save up and get the R5 the R6 is hot garbage
If you do landscape just get the a7riii or used a7riii for $1000, 45 megapixels

Thankyou for taking the time to read this
Thanks for this video! I really wanted to see it and suggested it a few weeks back and was told there was no need for it..... sorry other commenter who shot me down 💁🏼♀️ Fro knows photo thought it was worth comparing for some of us! Thanks, Fro!
Sadly, the WFT-R10 has one battery dedicated to Networking and one dedicated to the camera. Also, the WFT-R10 is the only way to connect to an eero mesh network. Using the built-in chipset results in a freeze when scanning networks if there are *any* eero mesh networks nearby, even if it’s not your network.
