    i recently toured with craig, i sing for a band called until i wake and we were on the crown the empire tour together. i was so nervous this dude thought i sucked or was too cool to hang out, but turns out hes just very introverted, and that made me feel so much more connected to him because im the exact same way. social interaction is very akward for me and i suck at having conversations with people because i feel like i have nothing to say and i dont know how to chit chat. i got to have a few interactions with craig and he is honestly the nicest sweetest dude. wish i could have spent more time with him haha. im also the same way about consuming certain content, like dahmer, dark evil shit about death just makes me depressed and think about it all day. im the same exact way as morgan when i read tho

      I was the exact same way for about the first 35 years of my life and then I had a spiritual awakening and now I am one of the most outspoken and direct people you will ever meet. But everything I say is not attributed to arrogance or pride, but through experience. I’ve learned how to just be real with people. And many times people don’t like it but I’ve found it’s much easier for me to live that way. Thanks for Sharing.

    I loved the last Chiodos record. As a fan and a listener, it didn't sound like a failure at all. Regardless of what Craig thinks, I am happy they made that record. It's sad to hear about the situation they were in during recording process.

    • @Kekktye

      For real! I think the community's opinion of that, and even Illuminaudio has shifted a lot over the years.
      Though it's clearly not the same style, I feel both those records retained Chiodos' musical and stylistic aesthetic.
      It was definitely a different direction for Chiodos, more in line with Illuminaudio, but clearly still an important point in Craig's musical evolution.

    I don't know if I'm misreading this but I think Craig's feeling of burnout mixed with cringe was both such a blessing and a devastating hit to the early-2010s rock.
    I think it was super important for artists like Craig to spread their wings and find their musical identity.
    But I also think it's depressing that for a good 10-year period, rock music outside of "the classics" was seen as "immature" and "cringy" and it's audience looked down upon.
    But I think it's only because of that period that we're having the resurgence we're having now, the mix of nostalgia and reflection that made so many realize the importance of the last 20 years of rock music and being able to shamelessly embrace it. That shouldn't be devalued by what manufactured projects that did exist.
    Those down years also allowed genre experimentation so beyond anything before 2010, showing both the strengths of rock and genres it could be paired with.

    As sad as I am to admit this (as I was and still am a huge fan of the Isles & Glaciers EP), Craig is absolutely right... it cant be recreated and even if it were to be recreated, we would forever compare any new I&G to the original EP, which, as you said in the interview, is in a lot of people's "top 3". That was such a special moment in time and it would be near impossible to replicate that. I think the only thing that would make sense is if one day, there was some kind of live reunion, even if it was just a once off. Great interview by the way!

    I like the interviewer for doing this, but he’s kinda lame with his questions. It’s awkward, and almost as if he’s making things up as he goes. He’ll start a question, and you can see him think out how he should orchestrate it in his mind , and it’s awkward in his delivery. I appreciate his ambition, and what his vision is with this podcast/interview show. Maybe have a list of what questions he wants to ask. He needs more structure in his interview.. Also, lay off injecting your own life and memories into a question aimed at the guest.. just my two sense. It’s effing rad what he’s doing. So take good with bad and vice versa.

That would've laid out Craig's legacy and talent a lot more clearly, as it deserves.

Alls well and bone palace will never have anything close that sound like them. Chiodos was a once in a lifetime band. 99% of all bands sounds similar to each other, if not the same. Chiodos wasn’t one of them.

Had some chiodos lyrics tattooed on me and asked for a photo at a meet and greet and he didn’t have time, but when I saw him walking away I asked one more time (sorry for pestering you Craig 😂) and he said for sure and was the nicest dude in the world. The summer before bone palace came out they played a free show in front of the rock and roll hall of fame, the night before they played warped tour in Cleveland. They had just played Cincinnati earlier in the day and I saw on MySpace they were advertising this free show and got my dad to drive me and my friend, we were going into 8th or 9th grade lol. Before the show we went into the rock and roll hall of fame and walked into the free area in the basement and there was Craig Owens just walking by himself. Me and my friend said hi and I took a picture of the two of them on my razr phone 😂 and was too shy to ask him to take another picture so I didn’t get one with him. But it was a cool experience and great show

    This is written off my memory alone;
    The Chiodos Bros. - 1 album, 5 songs
    Chiodos, 3 albums with Craig, around 40 songs
    The Sound of Animals Fighting, Cinematic Sunrise, and Isles & glaciers - 1 album each, about 30 songs
    Two solo albums, if we count the rereleases on Gold, about 25 songs
    D.R.U.G.S. (kinda out of order) - 2 albums, 30 songs...
    Yeah, that's a lot of music.
    Then we count Unshown by King Yosef, those singles and the album done under badXchannels, Stay Distracted by Jon Connor, Don't Let Me Fall by Kuniva....
    I'm sure I'm forgetting or never even heard at least a dozen other tracks....
    Craig has put out more music than I've had significant events in my life.

    God I love these interviews. This style of personal analysis is so cool.
    I can see why this sort of thing didn't so much work with Pierce the Veil, as good as that interview still was, it's harder to get that intimate as a first-try with a band who hasn't interviewed in half a decade sidearmed by two oher band members functioning to pad the intensity. I think Craig's history with the scene and reserved-but-intricate personality connects so well with this.
    As much as I like the every-detail-revealed interviews or the comedy-session interviews, this brings something so unique that I think fits super well with Craig. I'd love to see if this style would work with Vic in the future.

  • @closinginonclosure
    @closinginonclosure Год назад +4

    16:38 Speaking of this. When D.R.U.G.S. fell apart back in the day it was because he wasn't being a good person. It was Craig's fault. John Feldmann is the person who produced their debut album, got them signed, and really helped the band in many ways. They had a scene supergroup lineup and were slated for big things with the success of the album, and Craig decided it was a good idea to sleep with the wife of the head of the label. Needless to say, the label pulled the plug. Craig's actions lit a fuse that couldn't be put out, and everything went up in flames. That's the real reason D.R.U.G.S. ended the way it did. Craig has actually been the source of really most of the issues that have happened in any band he's been in that imploded or had real member problems. Apparently they is the complete opposite of what he says here that he strives to be. On the bright side, there's always room for improvement.

    • @jeffbrownstain
      @jeffbrownstain Год назад +1

      Objectively, as Craig's biggest fan: this is 100% facts.
      His attitude (alongside Jonny's and Vic's) killed Isles & Glaciers, his drug use killed chiodos, his sluttiness killed DRUGS, and apparently, his own boredom and adhd killed badXchannels.
      He's like a sun, burning bright and setting everything on fire that gets too close.
      I'll still buy his merch tho.

    Craig Owens gave a flawless interview (as he always does), but the host really needs some training on how to give an effective interview. The gentleman seemed at times unorganized and unclear in a series of sections of the interview, and he could really use some coaching on his verbiage, sentence structure, direction, and delivery. Simply put, I think the host needs more training, but once he gets that, I believe that he could very much excel. The host seems like a GREAT GUY and I can tell he is VERY PASSIONATE about what he does (as he stated) so with a little direction, practice, and repetition, I truly believe that he could take his podcast to a whole new level. To the host: if you see this post, then I hope you do not take my feedback in a negative demeanor in any way (as that is NOT my intention at all), I can see that you have talent and potential, I just feel like a little training would help you organize and maximize the abilities that you already possess😊. Professionally I’m a master Trainer so I analyze everything unintentionally due to the fact that it is what I do for a living and when I see an opportunity to help someone I always do (thus why I became a trainer in the first place). Thanks for doing this interview. I love Craig Owens and I will always be a fan so it was nice to see more about his journey and where he currently is in life.

He's such a cool dude that makes such perfect art, and cares so much about the quality regardless of how influential anything he has created has been for someone in the past. It has to be original too. Bitch, most of his art old, new, solo shit, or co-creating has made me cry for 100 different reasons. Lol Also, Brakence is amazing as fuck I saw him live as soon as I could 😂 also Devil is by far my favorite album out of anything ever created in my opinion ever since it came out, and I've been mad at myself for the past year considering to make the new Brakence album Hypochondriac as my favorite after so many years because I do love it that much. Something about Devil is still better to me though. 😅 Devil has lyrics that are nostalgic at this point, and nothing will replace how unique the lyrics and sound are versus anything else you can find 😅😂

    Craig Owens is seriously, without a doubt, one of the G.O.A.T.'s of the alternative rock scene, and just an all-around artistically brilliant person.
    That said, it was annoying waiting for the interviewer to spit out what he's trying to say throughout the whole conversation. Only cause I love Craig I sat through it but there SHOULD be more structure/organization with the questions out of respect for Craig's time and presence. That would've laid out Craig's legacy and talent a lot more clearly, as it deserves.
    This dud interviewer, who obviously doesn't take the privilege of his role seriously, is probably "difficult to work with," cause he doesn't know how to take constructive criticism and do better than THIS. Supposedly it's bc he "knows what he wants" but that doesn't always mean what you're putting out is quality, and him joking about his production team getting upset for his dumb m*sturb*ting story, that added NOTHING to the conversation, and even confused Craig, is a an example of that. He should be grateful of having a skilled team that allows him to even do this, not mock them for having standards.
    Like Craig said, "I'm still actively trying to be a better person and not be a pain in the ass to anybody," RIGHT AFTER the interviewer asked him if he could relate to being difficult...take the hint, dude. If you're going to host a radio show, and get paid to do so, put in some effort out respect for those that come on, your team and YOURSELF. Viewership will go down and subscribers will become stagnant if this host stays and/or continues this mediocre effort. The concept is brilliant, don't let it die with poor execution.

    I really have a hard time trying to like the host. It always feels like he invites his favorite musicians just to tell'em how he discovered their music and nothing else. Ten seconds of the guest talking and 5 minutes of the host rambling about his personal experiences just to end in something that could have taken 5 seconds.

    Need a Tyler Carter interview. He hosted emo nite in Atlanta with Kellin Quinn for y’all. Y’all did Kellin but haven’t touched on Tyler ik the bs. But it is as allegations nothing ever got proven. So that’s whack. Same way he got kicked from issues. “Guilty until proven innocent” kinda vibe. Lol. Do it. And even ask him about it if he’d be down. Or even Michael bohn how issues and rise records kicked him to go for a radio style

    I think everyone that loved Chiodos felt exactly like Craig did about the last album they did. It just had no Chiodos vibe. Music can be slow close but so far away. Then, not having Jason was a problem with the ingredients. Honest. Chiodos needs Jason's leads to have the feel. Weirdly, I love Craig, but Illuminaudio had that feel. A little different but still Chiodos.
