Dan comes across as incredibly jaded. The backroom shenanigans are not ok, even if the situation is improved from where it was. The NIL system is still broken, and it needs a lot of work. If Sluka was promised what he said, then good for him for standing up for himself.

It’s a business, if they don’t want to pay him the college and collective quit on the team not the player. UNLV coach is making 1.75mil a year, don’t give me this crap about quitting on a team. Coaches quit and go to other colleges leaving all those players they recruited all the time.

@@ZaoJin yes but it’s not the college paying the money. It’s generally a third party. So the OC made misrepresentations to the player. Since the college and the coach are not the ones finding it they’re not the ones to provide a contract. It was 100% a mistake to not ask for one and to take their word as honorable but it doesn’t relieve the college of a coach lying to a player in recruitment.

I agree with Rich. College kids and even their parents are easy marks for these recruiters and boosters. How many players have just sucked it up and played despite not getting what they were promised?

Horrible to have the billion dollar NCAA and hundred million dollar programs and million dollar coaches and their supporters put the blame on student athletes for not building a good enough system to finally allow the people that are drawing the crowds and alumni donations and getting concussions and broken knees earn a drop of the ocean of money generated by college athletics.

I love how people are mad bc some kid didn’t get NIL money from the school when the school isn’t allowed to actually pay. Funny how this stretched from “we just want NIL” to schools must pay when those are 2 separate things.

Yeah you keep saying that. I guess if someone's word isn't good enough then I suppose you'd be right. It could turn out that not signing a contract and this happening is going to be the smart thing for this QB in the long run. In addition, it makes UNLV look small and dishonest. Any school recruiting against them will have a pretty big poker chip to play now.

A school that likes his skills and is willing to pay him. Public opinion supports the kid. Kid knows he has no NFL future and he picked UNLV based on the money promised and for no other reason. This is it for him to make money playing football. Most people understand that.

It might not be a big deal for NCAA, but I still think it's bad PR for UNLV and might mess up the flow of their season. Maybe the team actually kinda hated this guy and liked the second QB better and save their season - then sure. But if they are around .500 this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the coach left. This was the best season in UNLV's history and they found a way to completely screw it up over $100,000 lol!

He is not great, he is just good and getting older everyday This is caused by lack of NIL oversight
