I plan to get one! Powerful 7 inch handhelds are rare. Also, people are failing to realize that you can also run games locally on the G-Cloud. So, it's not just for Cloud gaming and streaming. And yes while I think it should really be at $300, I'd pay $350 for this if it does what I think it can do. ETA Prime's review showed some promising video game emulation natively.

    • @JosephTheRocker
      @JosephTheRocker Год назад +4

I think their expectations are unrealistic and way too high!

And, cheaper is not always better. I'm wiling to spend a few hundred dollars to get a fairly decent handheld. Better than buying several cheap handhelds that suck. I often think about what's the best price for both the producer and the consumer. Maybe, there is a good reason Logitech needs to price their G-Cloud at $350. It may cost half that price to produce the handheld, it seems to be a high quality console. That's why I say a more fitting price for the G-Cloud would be $300. Selling this at just $200 or less like some people are requesting may keep Logitech from producing the consoles at high volumes. People don't understand that if Logitech doesn't profit enough from selling and producing the G-Cloud, the G-Cloud runs the risk of being discontinued. It took many years for me to understand this.

Great review, but I'm surprised about the sound/volume. Others have reviewed saying they were decent, seeing as Logi makes headsets. Also, how was Tencent even involved in this device? I think readers/viewers would like to know, especially since Tencent is known to overstep with privacy concerns and ties to the Chinese government and data sharing with Douyin (owners of TikTok, a whole other privacy issue). I personally would not use any real credentials on this device, especially if Tencent did the android build. They won't even say how long security/OS updates will be supported, which is shady.

In Canada, it retails for $460, which is totally insane. Add sale taxes and this gets near $530. And before people tell us that it's literally priced the same because of exchange rate, note that no one has their salaries adjusted because of exchange rate. Which means while it's still pricey for a US buyer, it feels even pricier for a Canadian one as our wages weren't raised when our money value went down the drain. We earn the same, but everything went up in price. Which sucks a lot, and makes devices like this an even harder sell than it should be.
And to be honest, with all the competition out there, I don't see a lot of people interested in that specific market (portables) thinking this is good value given all the other options available (depending on what you want to use it for and if emulating, what are your expectations).
And... Logitech. A company that used to mean something but now with a general build quality and software engineering that went in a downward spiral over the last 5 years or so. Customer service that is mostly good to make you feel like you've just been told to go F yourself too. Had two expensive mice of theirs crap out on me over the last 2 years. A gaming keyboard too. And have tons of problems with my Logitech headset (mostly, the horrible G Hub drivers). This device looks well build, but I'm not really trusting Logitech anymore. I had better luck with all those Chinese companies, quality-wise, which is unreal when you think about it.

I did kinda wanna get one of these, because on my switch lite, i can't interact with all my friends, and there's just more games on xbox I like. However, knowing how the swtich lite and switch is, they're not comfortble. Nintendo is famous for basically making the worst controllers for adults since the N64. The game cube even being kinda weird and quirky compared to the PS1 which is based on an SNES. But then the Xbox 360 came in and basically made one of if not the most comfortble controller and changed the game.
Sidenote, I remember having a friend who was super into his PS3 and was like, "best controller ever" then he held my 360 controller and got mad at me because how comfortble it was.
But anyway, I can tell in the few videos I've seen of this, mostly because it's new and not a lot of people are talking about this at the moment, that the control layout is tight, and for larger hand people this isn't going to be comfortble. Even with a satisfye grip on my switch lite, i still struggle with comfert at times.
How well will it handle GTA Chinatown wars for PSP? What emulator were you using for PS2? And it can't do game cube?

I only see something like this becoming popular is when game streaming becomes your only option. We're transitioning consoles to a world where you only get games via download. Just wait till you have to stream all your games and you have to subscribe. I hope to never see the day when I have to subscribe to a game service. For those complaining about the missing 5G/mobile data, most major carriers allow hotspot up to your plan limit with your cell phone or you can add hotspot to your line and not have to add another line.

To me this is a companion device, so I can continue playing my pc games down on the couch or in bed. I can also use it to remote in to my Xbox or Playstation while someone else watches TV. I pre ordered mine for $249 through logitech so I definitely wouldn't recommend it at full msrp. Imo they should of made this the Cloud S for $199 and made a Cloud X for $349 with the G3X and some more ram.

I don’t think I’ll EVER get passed the latency from cloud gaming, no matter how minuscule it is it will always be in the back of head when I play. Unless it’s proven that it’s the same latency as a wireless controller to console then maybe cuz I’ve never ever noticed that latency where as a lot of people say they can feel it, so idk

  • @grzegorz__

Hmm, I'm not sure who will buy it. I mean, I have Odin Lite and i can play a lot of Gamecube, WII games, it has wi-fi 6 (? haven't tested it to be fair yet ;p, but doesn't it mean that it may be even better for cloud gaming than logitech ? :p). And it costed me like hmm 230-240 $ ? 100 $ difference is a lot. I just don't see anything special about it. The only benefit (?) is big company behind it. And now, when you can buy cheapest steam deck without waiting, i guess the solution is obvious ;)

I got it yesterday and I must say the gaming experience on this device is much much better than on my Google Pixel 4a phone. It's like a new iPad mini with a built-in controller. The speaker is very good, the screen is nice, and the quality is very high. But Xbox Cloud Gaming is not as good as Stadia because the latency is high and resolution is low for Xbox Cloud Gaming games. I am going to return it. If Xbox Cloud Gaming becomes good, then I would buy it because of the huge Game Pass Ultimate library.

  • @biglevian

I think it missed the mark. No 5g or wifi 6 means no real dedication to cloud gaming. Meanwhile the internals are equivalent of a midrange phone 3 years ago or even longer, most people that have 350$ to spend probably already have a way better phone and would rather buy a powerbank and a good controller.
Compared to similar priced devices you pay extra, which of strange because the companies behind them are so much smaller.

I have to admit, I didn't think this was going to be any good... I'm not into Cloud gaming but I do agree that the price is too high for what it does, but I definitely see the appeal of it.
I don't know why, but the white colour is quite off-putting... Maybe because black/grey seems to be the norm with handhelds...

I'd rather get the switch lite over this. Others may argue but the switch lite offers a complete new set of library, unlike streaming devices like this that only offer, well, "streaming". Besides, I always play on my PC for games which is why I have no use for streaming devices.

Not sure about these cloud ready and heavily WiFi dependent devices …
… anything much north of the RG353 is appealing to a whole different (non retro, and perhaps younger) market …
… this trend / trajectory is morphing handhelds into something more resembling large, fancy (but charmless, cookie-cutter) android phones with bolted-on controller buttons.
I’m going to pass on this one I think and get back to playing my cherished set of (largely 2D) Master System, Mega Drive and PC Engine (etc.) ROMs ☺️
I’m hoping they release an RG353 ‘max’ at some point 👍🏼 and continue to enhance the Linux based products.

You can play games locally! That's what the micro sd card slot is for as well as the Google Play store. That's also why it's priced the way it is and the reason I'm purchasing one. I don't care for cloud gaming either, not the reason I'm purchasing one. I plan to run my games offline mainly. ETA Prime shows offline emulation in his G-Cloud review, and the performance is really good!
