    I cannot understand why people say that Eubank and Benn only lost to Steve Collins because they were too old and past it, do you know that Eubank was younger than Collins and Benn was the same age?
    Eubank at the time was 28 and Benn was 30 the same age as Collins, yeah yeah they were really old, pathetic.

    • @AnGhaeilge
      @AnGhaeilge 9 лет назад +8

      +Music Music There's was nothing wrong with their form. Eubank was undefeated in the prime of his career. Benn was on a great run, shy of a bad split-decision loss to Malinga. Collins won because he fought harder, and was the better man.

      +Sean Ó Briain benn was not the same fighter. Now to look at the records yes you would say he was fine, however, it is very evident to me after watching those bouts, benn does not look the same fighter.
      One might argue steve collins was the levels above etc,but to me it looks to me like benn's form was not the same as in previous bouts.
      I am not taking anything away from steve collins however, i am simply stating benn did not look the same, you could argue it tooth and nail, its just my opinion and from what im seeing watching the fights.

      It's obviously not the age but the fact that Benn was a shot fighter ... take Jones and Calzaghe - same age but Calzaghe deliberate it took the fight only when he knew Jones was a spent force :(

    I forgot how biased the commentators were in those days.
    They talk about Benn as if he was an old man, he was just a year older than Collins.
    They constantly go on about Benn's hard career, compared to Collins, but he only had a few more fights than Collins, and he didn't fight the calibre of fighters Collins fought in America, where he was robbed of 2 wins on very controversial decisions.
    The only blot on his career was an early loss on points to Mike McCallum, a world champion in 3 different weight divisions, and one of the best pound for pound fighters in any division, when he was only 25. He was never KO'd by anyone, and deserved more recognition that the media gave him credit for.

    The reason Collins beat Eubank and Benn is because he never let them set their feet which is exactly how Pavlik beat Taylor. This is a common tactic used by boxers with greater cardiovascular endurance against those with more explosive power.

    Collins was a good infighter and counterpuncher. If you fought in close you can take a set puncher's power from him. Also, Collins had a steel chin so Benn could not hurt him. Collins was neutralized by a very good boxer in McCallum. But Benn was not a boxer, therefore he was easy to hit.

  • @kengrinell
    @kengrinell 12 лет назад +1

    Steve collins had head problems because he got punched in it too much. He fought Benn and Eubank when they were on the way out. A slow, easy to hit, fighter with mediocre punching power, like Collins, would be tailor made for Roy Jones. He would get demolished.

    Collins was a middleweight world champion when he moved up to fight Eubank. Collins took the fight at short notice and still beat Eubank. In the second fight Collins looks physically stronger because he had a full camp behind him and, imo, beat Eubank soundly.
    Collins went to fight in America and fought Mike McCallum after only 16 fights, I can't imagine Eubanks ever doing something like that.
    Collins could box and brawl, as Benn found out. Neutralise Benns power and you've the battle won.

    The decision Toney got over johnson was controversial, and he got off the floor to do it. +Julie Jones Yeah, it seemed to be 'one fight too many' for Benn - he was past his prime (even though he was only 30) at this point. I think the gruelling bouts against Eubank and Gerald McClellan had taken their toll on him.
      Collins was one tough (and pretty damn skilled) fighter though, and Benn at this stage was outboxed by him. It was a good thing that he retired at the end of the sixth; no doubt his pride was hurt but better that than taking a severe beating.

Eubank knew the real reason Collins would never be out was because he had a steel chin. Read my first and second comment. But he did fight Mike McCallum and was robbed against Sumbu kalambay, not to mention beating the previously unbeaten Chris Euband, twice. And if you didn't notice, Collins was half way around the world when them two where in their "prime". Collins actually vacated the middleweight belt to move up and fight Eubank. And anyway, fuck Benn and Eubank.. who are they? Collins wanted Jones Jr, and Jones Jr wanted nothin to do with him! I question your knowledge mate.

    Roy Jones said that Gerald Mcclellan was the most frightening fighter in the devision, no one wanted to fight him. And what happened when he met ben. Iran Barkley had come of two wins against Thomas Hearrns when he got Knocked out in the first round against Benn. Not sure who's reading the Sun or who mentioned Chris Eubank at all, are you sure it's me who needs to visit the real world? Carry on eating your TV dinner in your underpants and making assumptions about people you've never met.

    Neither Benn, nor Eubank would get in there with the likes of Johnson or Mccallum. Watson was a shade better than either, and he weas handed a severe beating. When Eubank faced Collins, he was coming off one of his most impressive wins against henry wharton, and was three years younger than Collins. The fact is that he wouldnt have got in there against Collins at all if ray close hadnt pulled out of a rubber match. Gaps in my boxing knowledge? Who made a sweeping statement about the johnson?

    • @ChrisThornburn-ke5xk

      Peter James that’s pure ignorance graham was very unlucky against mccallum to say benn dodged is silly Johnson made for eubank inexperience lost Watson fight with mccallum was worn down not severe beating

    U need 2 give Benn his props for amount the greatest comeback u are likely 2 ever see against someone he had nothing 2 gain from fighting. Realise the fight was not stopped because Benn landed on the outside of the canvas. That "wet sock" put the most dangerous up and comer in a wheel chair. Steve fought a retired Benn with no desire 2 fight. If u seriously think Collins holds a candle to Roy Jones, when Collins was out boxed Mccallum who got smashed by Jones and James Toney. Collins is bad.

    Terminated who exactly? Eubank was over the hill and still went 12 rounds with him, Benn came back out of retirement and broke his foot. What is there 2 boast about? Instead of Collins paying a hypnotist 2 perform magic spells on him before fights, he should of learnt how 2 bob and weave. Then he wouldn't of had 2 retire with his only claim 2 fame being beating 2 once great champions. Collins is a glorified ginger punching bag, who won fights because people grew tired of hitting him.

    Benns whole style is based around slipping punches and landing on the inside. He is constantly bobbing and weaving, look when Collins has him on the ropes. The fact that u can't spot that tells me 2 things: 1, u have never set foot in the ring for yourself but u are extremely opinionated for someone who knows nothing. 2, u are filled with a prejudice hatred towards these fighters which blinds u from the facts. Benn was technically one of the shittest boxers i have ever seen. He had guts and would fight anyone. As far as skill he was terrible. No combinations , No footwork and shit defense. He once said he wanted to fight Roy Jones, it wouldnt have lasted a round. Jones would have beaten Benn and Eubank on the same night as long as he fought Benn first. Eubank would have taken him a few more rounds. Collins, Benn, Eubank and Calzaghe would all have been destroyed by a peak RJJ.
