- Coach Nick breaks down the game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics, showing you how the Spurs are virtually impossible to beat when Tiago Splitter gives them that much production. Oh - and Jeff Green screw ups too!

Thanks for watching!!
Thanks! Yes - watching the ball movement out of the many different pick and rolls they run is really exciting...
Thanks for being in the conversation!
Awesome. Glad to see YOU'RE IN!
Are you watching on a mobile phone? The links don't appear there - just find our channel: PatriotHoopSquad and you'll see it in our Uploads section...
Thanks! Glad YOU'RE IN!
No problem! Stay tuned, lots more coming up...
great video man, so informative! and i thought i pay alot of attention to the details on the court with replays, you're just on another level coach!
Hey Coach, its just been a few days since I discovered your channel, and I have been hooked on to your videos since then...the time and hard work you put into breaking down all these regular season and playoff games is something, in my opinion, that is really rare and absolutely terrific. I feel like it has widened my perspective, and made me think of so many nuances that wouldn't immediately come to mind while watching or playing the game... Don't ever stop making these! Best wishes from India.
Greetings from France, coach...Great vid!!!I really appreciate the way you break games down.It really makes it very simple and instructive for us.....
Thanks! Lots more coming up...
This is going to the top of our list
I always enjoy bballbreakdown videos. Thanks for uploding!
Marvelous analyzing, I'm glad i subbed.
You heard my request about Rondo's strengths & weaknesses (I guess) and did a good analysis about Spurs. Thank you Coach Nick !
Well, I had to choose between this game and LAC OKC - we had a vote on twitter and Spurs won... But we'll get back to both those teams ASAP.
Glad to hear you're improving!!
absolutely! We have them on our board!
great video, its awesome how you figure everything out and how you know strategies perfectly. btw, go spurs :)
YES! We will. Maybe even next week!
ah ok. Thanks for explaining Coach! Great work on the videos.
Yes - we are preparing stats for an interesting article and breakdown that will talk about this a little...
HA... very rarely...
Depends on the defensive philosophy. PLaying "ICE" on a sideline SnR means the big man contains while the guard forces the ball towards the baseline. Many defenses are now having the ball defender force the ball away from the pick - no need to hedge then...
Well, there are no games tonight, but...
We just did a Grizzlies breakdown (vs Knicks) and we also did Clippers - but I think we could do a combo Grizzlies/Clippers breakdown - good idea
I promise we will do on ASAP
I'm glad to see the players of our homeland in Brazil playing so good primeira vez q vejo um brasiliero comentar num desses canais americanos
OK... Let me know how the next one works. I've never had problems hearing them - even on my smartphone
nice breakdown!
great analysis
Omg see the nba in a different way! Subbed
Please do a Charlotte bobcats Improvement Breakdown!
-Jason , Love all your breakdown vids!
Great vid coach
I need a type of this video for the spurs and heats yesterday!
I'll keep my on him and see. But that's great defense on one of the best PFs playing
Coach I've been a quiet subscriber but I honestly look forward to your breakdowns! They increase my basketball IQ and its vital for me since I am a point guard! Love your Russell Westbrook criticism btw! ;)
Fixed.
THX!!
Your English is perfect! Thanks - and you're right!
Did u see him last night? Holy.
We did one last year, I'll do another one for sure!
Yo coach, I'll tend to go off my left foot when driving left and finishing left. You pointed that out as a flaw in Jeff Green's footwork. I'm not great finishing when I do that, but I always attributed it more to my overall skill level. Is the issue being off balance (basic body mechanics) or is it something else? I mean Gary Payton used to finish wrongfooted ALL the time. I'd imagine it could throw defenders off if your rhythm is different than the average player as well. Love your vids man.
turn on captions and it reads "a sports fans coach naked and welcome to devolve breakdown special thanksgiving." That auto caption is on point!
Coach, on the play that starts at 8:50, you say Splitter does a good job of containing barbosa. I'm wondering, when should the big man hedge on a pick and roll and when should he stay back and contain the ball handler? In other videos, you've gotten mad at big men for not hedging but here you say it was a good decision by Splitter. Does it depend on if the ball handler is a good shooter?
Thanks for the videos, really good stuff!
What has Stephen A said about Splitter?
Any young aspiring future basketball player or coach any where in this world really needs to to be locked to this channel.
Nasty for sure!
Interesting - let me look at the details and I'll see
I based it on this year - where he's shooting 22% from 3...
a video showing the most commonly used plays in the nba would be awesome
Hey coach! Can you do a breakdown on the thunder vs celtics game and have a brief talk on rondo's assist run?
splitter looked good on d from your breakdown, but i often see him miss rotations pretty regularly. but hopefully he improves as the season wears on.
fronting is the way to go, and just be as physical as possible.
Not a weird question at all :)
hey coach nick !!! where is the link to your team's highlights???
There's certainly a decent argument thus far... We'll get to the Knicks in the next few weeks, to see if what I saw was a mirage. I did see they gave up a TON of points last night...
coach nick to coach in the nba!!!
Hey coach nick, can you please do a Brooklyn Nets breakdown sometime in the future. thanks
Pops playbook is amazing.
HOLY CRAP!!! COACH NICK replied to me!!! Awesome can't wait for the vid! Could you mention me when you do the breakdown that would be so cool
Someday, you should do a "FAQ video" explaining shortly who your favorite (least favorite) players, coaches, teams, contributors... etc are and why.
I've got a bit of a weird question, I am in the under 18s league and I am one of the tallest players on mt team, problem is im only about 6ft1in tall. So my question is how do you mark much bigger players. I understand that I should front on the low post otherwise I'll just get over-powered but what else can I do?
two words: KEEP POSTING!!!!!!!!!
Typo on splitter's name in ur description, but great vid
Tony Parker is too good at keeping his dribble alive and that floater is just nasty.
I think Splitter goes to bed thanking God that he has Duncan as a teammate
Coach i have a question. What do you think about the Celtics? Do you think its just an early season slump or a long term thing?
Hey coach, you wrote "Tiagp Splitter" in the description. Pretty great other than that!
coach nick can you please break down the thunder clippers game from last night
i really like and appreciate your videos but
it seems to me that when a player you analyze in one of your breakdowns had a good game, then you give him props for almost every made or attempt shod he took like tony parkers stepback which in my opinion was very tough and well contested
when westbrook takes such shots you always say they are bad or else
greetings
can you also do one about how the bobcats have improved
Can you do a video on the new up and coming NBA rookies, like Damian lillard and others
Your video on the Knicks/Nets game got taken down on copyright grounds by the NBA, what's up with that?
Awesome!
The Celtics are reportedly interested in trading for Gortat(for obvious reasons), but PHX is gonna want Avery Bradley somehow in the exchange.
I'm a Spurs' fan, but I'm interested to see if the Celtics will look to make a move before the trade-deadline.
dont get your channel taken down, coach!
Your Nets/Knicks vid got taken down?
coach can you do a video on the rise of Grizzlies and Clippers???Also, tonight's game (Lakers vs Grizzlies) needs to be cover!!!
We'll get to Golden State ASAP!
Great video. I think most of the Jeff Green criticism is justified. He has the talent to be a top bench scorer, just gotta be smart and aggressive. My only question is how do you figure that Courtney Lee is an awful 3 pt shooter?
coach can you do houston and memphis breakdowns thanks.
I checked his numbers from this year, like breenhill said. He's a bad 3 point shooter this year, and until he starts making some, I won't change my tune :)
great intro
Lee could also step into the paint to defend Diaw, the skip pass to Neal is a slow one which would give Lee enough time to close out.
Coach Nick needs to do a breakdown of the Warriors.
Didn't see it - sounds like the same thing he did to Tony Parker in playoffs
If you had to pick one point guard in the league to start a team with, who would you pick? I would personally pick Parker, extremely well rounded offensive game, quick, strong and agile, maybe not explosive like Rose or Westbrook. But I think there's something to be said about having a guy that smart with the ball in his hands 80% of the time(CP3 or Rondo are close to Parker though), I think Popovich has taught the Spurs big 3 a good bball philosophy and that's why they still remain successful.
Hey coach do an episode on Rajon Rondo's assist streak, and compare it to Magic and Stockton
HA HA - that is right. I DO LIKE Pau, though - except for his defense
Most of the superstars are good when they play isolation or the ball handler. Beyond that most of them aren't great guarding players who are active without the ball; they get lazy and a lot of the time they get screened very easily and just start switching in every screen situation. This may also be due to them saving energy for the offensive end.
Fixed
He might have learned his lesson after trading Perkins - I would've traded Perk in a heartbeat too
What happened to the nets and knicks breakdown?
Coach Nick, you spelled Tiago* wrong in the description!
your video got taken down?
If it's not too much I'll love it if you make a video about the strategy of basketball.
not the analysis more like a tutorial
by the way great vid as always
coach do u think the celtics will ever get better? The way their playing right now really worries me.
Aha - THanks for the info. I hate it when I agree with Bayless, btw
Can you make a video about lakers and kings please?
Do one on the bobcats they have improved.
Too be honest, i think perk's talents were maximised in boston, because he could get easy dishes from rondo, and garnett was right behind him on defense. maybe in OKC he seems terrible, but in 2010-11 (and particularly against Miami) he was a great fit in boston, and also a great factor in the team chemistry, if you watch "The Association" from that year
Love the video coach, but I think you don't give Rondo's 3pt shot enough of a chance, but I think he just looks for a more effective shot from his teammates in close, which is what you want you're point guard to do.
Tony Parker is BEAST!
I think Garnett defended well in the first play as Splitter sets the screen on the right side but Manu doesn't use it and goes left. If Garnett would have defended on the left side Manu could have used the screen with no-one hedging: open shot for him. Barbosa should have stepped into the paint to take away the pass to Diaw as Manu is not able to pass to his man (on top) because Garnett is in the passing lane.
