  • Coach Nick breaks down the game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics, showing you how the Spurs are virtually impossible to beat when Tiago Splitter gives them that much production. Oh - and Jeff Green screw ups too!

    Hey Coach, its just been a few days since I discovered your channel, and I have been hooked on to your videos since then...the time and hard work you put into breaking down all these regular season and playoff games is something, in my opinion, that is really rare and absolutely terrific. I feel like it has widened my perspective, and made me think of so many nuances that wouldn't immediately come to mind while watching or playing the game... Don't ever stop making these! Best wishes from India.

  • @bballbreakdown
    @bballbreakdown  11 лет назад

    Depends on the defensive philosophy. PLaying "ICE" on a sideline SnR means the big man contains while the guard forces the ball towards the baseline. Many defenses are now having the ball defender force the ball away from the pick - no need to hedge then...

    Yo coach, I'll tend to go off my left foot when driving left and finishing left. You pointed that out as a flaw in Jeff Green's footwork. I'm not great finishing when I do that, but I always attributed it more to my overall skill level. Is the issue being off balance (basic body mechanics) or is it something else? I mean Gary Payton used to finish wrongfooted ALL the time. I'd imagine it could throw defenders off if your rhythm is different than the average player as well. Love your vids man.

    Coach, on the play that starts at 8:50, you say Splitter does a good job of containing barbosa. I'm wondering, when should the big man hedge on a pick and roll and when should he stay back and contain the ball handler? In other videos, you've gotten mad at big men for not hedging but here you say it was a good decision by Splitter. Does it depend on if the ball handler is a good shooter?
    Thanks for the videos, really good stuff!

    I've got a bit of a weird question, I am in the under 18s league and I am one of the tallest players on mt team, problem is im only about 6ft1in tall. So my question is how do you mark much bigger players. I understand that I should front on the low post otherwise I'll just get over-powered but what else can I do?

    it seems to me that when a player you analyze in one of your breakdowns had a good game, then you give him props for almost every made or attempt shod he took like tony parkers stepback which in my opinion was very tough and well contested
    when westbrook takes such shots you always say they are bad or else

    The Celtics are reportedly interested in trading for Gortat(for obvious reasons), but PHX is gonna want Avery Bradley somehow in the exchange.

    Lee could also step into the paint to defend Diaw, the skip pass to Neal is a slow one which would give Lee enough time to close out.

    If you had to pick one point guard in the league to start a team with, who would you pick? I would personally pick Parker, extremely well rounded offensive game, quick, strong and agile, maybe not explosive like Rose or Westbrook. But I think there's something to be said about having a guy that smart with the ball in his hands 80% of the time(CP3 or Rondo are close to Parker though), I think Popovich has taught the Spurs big 3 a good bball philosophy and that's why they still remain successful.

  • @mkeets
    @mkeets 11 лет назад

    Most of the superstars are good when they play isolation or the ball handler. Beyond that most of them aren't great guarding players who are active without the ball; they get lazy and a lot of the time they get screened very easily and just start switching in every screen situation. This may also be due to them saving energy for the offensive end.

    Too be honest, i think perk's talents were maximised in boston, because he could get easy dishes from rondo, and garnett was right behind him on defense. maybe in OKC he seems terrible, but in 2010-11 (and particularly against Miami) he was a great fit in boston, and also a great factor in the team chemistry, if you watch "The Association" from that year

  • @bykle_
    @bykle_ 11 лет назад

    Love the video coach, but I think you don't give Rondo's 3pt shot enough of a chance, but I think he just looks for a more effective shot from his teammates in close, which is what you want you're point guard to do.

  • @airheadmsng

  • @maartenvz
    @maartenvz 11 лет назад

    I think Garnett defended well in the first play as Splitter sets the screen on the right side but Manu doesn't use it and goes left. If Garnett would have defended on the left side Manu could have used the screen with no-one hedging: open shot for him. Barbosa should have stepped into the paint to take away the pass to Diaw as Manu is not able to pass to his man (on top) because Garnett is in the passing lane.
