As a nurse who works in LTC, I know how hard this was for you to film. You did a great job maintaining privacy, explaining everything and staying focused.
I am also an rn, but works as a prn at a long term care facility, started a month ago.I will be moving on to a hospital facility soon but will keep it as a second job.
Thank for the video. I currently work at the rehab portion at a SNF. I have been there for a couple of years now and have been trying to slowly transition to hospital. I'm just a little lacking in confidence changing from ST/LTC to acute care even though my unit is like a med-surg floor. I need a little confidence lol and I am working on it. I also hate changing jobs but I feel like I need to get that hospital experience to better my nursing skills
I felt the same about my skills when I was working in SNF but I left the hospital in January due to covid. It was getting too much for me. I'm at an acute rehab now. But if you want to challenge yourself, I do recommend trying the hospital. It's really different. Please share if you do! I wish you well.
I am only 15, but I really want to be a nurse at a nursing home. I love old people, and seeing how well the nurse took care of my grandma it is just made me want to be a nurse even more! I am always helping old people whether it's walking them to there car or Carrying there groceries, I just love it so I'm trying to see what I want to get into and stuff.
Just got hired at a skilled nursing facility. It’s my first job and ill be having my orientation next week! I wont lie Im nervous but watching your video made me excited to actually start working. Ill be night shift too so I really hope I will like it. I really wish you could do a video about tips when working in a SNF (what to expect, detailed routine, what to bring with you and stuff like that) 💖💖 also thanks for the video!

Seriously.....if working as an RN or PSW is so hard.....why not change your career? Do you think social workers film their daily duties? ( I am a retired social worker)....how about Emergency staff.... police officers.....Surgeons......so sick of the ongoing complaining!!!! The reality is LTC staff do their level best to minimize time spent on direct patients n t care! Take it from me....witnessed it myself on a long-term admission geratric floor. 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Thank you for making this video! I applied to a SNF and am trying to learn more about it since my background is inpatient oncology and outpatient infusion. I'm worried about having so many more patients!
@@ashleyz4888 I started on a bone marrow transplant unit and worked with patients with multiple myeloma and other blood cancers who would get stem cell transplants. Some of the patients did really well and it was rewarding to help them through chemotherapy and immunosuppression and see them get well enough to go home. I got a lot of experience with central lines and became chemo certified which can help you make more money as a specialty area in some places. The down side I think is that some patients can go septic pretty quickly and some of the patients who don't do well become really sick and it's sad to see them suffer. I worked at my first job for 4 years and learned a lot. If you're interested in oncology, go for it!
Hi, I just came across your video, this is good! I just noticed your nails, I worked in two hospitals and they don’t allow long, colored nails because it usually will catch a bacteria pretty easily. Anyways, I bet different facilities have different rules.
Would been nice if you stick to one language, is just annoying having to read instead of actually watching what you’re doing, otherwise good presentation of what a night LTC nurse actually does
Your routine is pretty much the same with my routine when I'm doing night shift. And now I'm transitioning to surgical telemetry ward in the hospital. I hope you have your night routine sa hospital rin. :D
It’s only in SNF. But in the hospital need iscan. I don’t mind both jobs, I also work in SNF and hospital. Never had an issue with meds or lab order.
Ano po ma suggest as entry job? Ok lng po LTC as a start or mas ok sa outpatient clinics muna?
Congratulations on passing the NCLEX! Personally, wala akong experience sa outpatient clinic. Sa LTC naman, you have to set your expectation na usually mataas ang patient- to- nurse ratio doon. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hey Nimpha, this was a very informative video! I have been struggling to find a hospital job since graduation. How long did you work at the snf before working at the hospital? What unit are you currently working in? I got an offer for a RN NOC position, but I'm a little worried to be on my own. Orientation is 2 weeks. Any tip or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks :)
blo0m4ever What I like about nursing here is that there's a lot of option, you just have to start somewhere. Don't be worried too much, just ask for more orientation time if you don't feel comfortable or safe, but you'll never really feel ready because orientation is just really short and you won't learn everything in that time span. Where I was at, they give 6 weeks for new grad. And always remember that you'll have your co-worker, just ask questions or for help. What state are you in? I'm in a med/Surg ortho&GI right now
@@lifeofanightnurse4299 I live in california. The DON said I will be on my own after orientation. There will be 54 patients which is quit a lot even though its noc shift. Tsk

an rn at a nursing home is usually a supervisor as the one passing meds is an lvn or lpn.
That's not true. BOTH RN & LPN work on the floor passing meds, however RN is the LPN's supervisor.
