You are such a caring person. Have you thought about making prayer shawls? This is how I do mine: chain 60 +1 for the turn. 2 rows of single crochet to start, then the recurring pattern is 3 rows of double crochet (for the trinity) and 1 row of single crochet. Just repeat the pattern until about 5 feet in length. As you are crocheting, say prayers for whoever will receive it. Then you can give it to those who need it, whether they have had a loss, illness, cancer, whatever the need. I always ask my Reverend to bless them before they are gifted. They can bring comfort for those in need and I find my soul is blessed as well. It's a small thing for me to do, and I hope it spreads some goodness in the world. Due to my own health, there are many things I cannot do, but I can pray and crochet. I encourage others to try this to help spread love and kindness. God Bless.

I love crochet too, especially since I got a set of "ergonomic" hooks.

I am fidgety, so having something to fuss with in the evening while we sit and watch tv is very soothing. I am pretty useless at crocheting. My thing is to untangle jewelry. Sometimes I purchase bulk jewelry on eBay, and I enjoy going through the box. Most of the time 90% of it isn't worth anything, but there's always something fun in the mess. The best part for me, though, is the sorting and untangling.

At the grand old age of 65+ I have taught myself to knit this week! after literally hundreds of failed attempts throughout life. I am knitting scarves, squares for blankets, and I love it. My mother was an expert and constant knitter and I have found it so therapeutic in these horrific times. Almost instantly I am transported back to that time when there was Mum, Dad and my sister all sat round round the fire watching some TV, with Mum always knitting...and hunting down the side of the chair when she dropped one of the needles haha. I dont know about anyone else, but right now with all that is going on here in the UK and around the world, this thing which brings me comfort (unexpectedly) is more valuable than words can say.

I understand what you mean about needing to do something while watching tv.
I knit or crochet ten inch squares, sew them together, some people crochet them together, give them to the homeless.
If you have any wool left over from your blankets just do a ten inch square and over time you will have another blanket.
They are so warm and very much needed, I can’t stand the thought of anyone being cold.
Enjoy your channel, you have come a long way with your canning and prepping xx

I learned basic crochet when I was about 9 yrs old when "granny square" waistcoats were the height of fashion in the 70s. I made a double bed blanket of a continuous granny square for my mum and dad which they loved and used it for about 20 odd years till it was worn out. I'm wanting to start crocheting again as I need to keep my hands busy and it might help me to at least cut down on my smoking.

Go for it. I gave up smoking 11 years ago and am so glad I did with the cost of it now.

Have you considered making wrist warmers to donate to charities for their clients rather than mittens? Only I'm thinking presumably they are easier, and would probably also be appreciated.

Me, too, Karen! Can't just sit and watch TV. I have to be 'doing'. For me it is knitting. I usually donate everything I knit to various women's shelters. Win-win. Thanks for another interesting video! Blessings from Canada!

I found a really easy pattern to crochet hats last fall, so I made three of them. I knit slippers, again an easy pattern requiring only two stitch types, and have done a few granny square afghans, but for the life of me, I cannot make a proper rectangle to make a lap blanket. It has got to have something to do with the turn, because they always turn out diamond-shaped, lol. But I have some leftover yarn so maybe I will try again.
