There is another video on RUclips of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau singing the cycle. I just watched it to make a comparison. Your voice sounds a bit like his. Yours is a little darker but still beautiful. May God give you a career like he had. I have a recording of him doing "Elijah," a little different than lieder but very enjoyable. I may not agree with the way you sing and the technique you are using but no one can ever say that you don't have a beautiful voice. The talent is truly immense, just wish you would sing with a more sturdy technique.

Your tone never leaves that 'knoodle' place; it's never pushed, your musicality is impeccable, and you're using your breath well. It's not that, for the modern singing technique, you are quite at the top. You've always been; your treble singing is beyond reproach. What I mean is, it saddens me that with your voice, you are not following in the paths of Robert Merrill or Ruffo, the great baritones of the past. I have no doubt that you are set for an extraordinary international career; it just saddens me that the art of singing has fallen so low. That is not your fault. You are doing what you are being taught. Dolora Zajick tells the story of how, when she studied, the music library at her school had no recordings past 1943, so she came out of school thinking everyone sang like that. She was able to get so many jobs because everyone was blown away by her singing. Listen to the great baritones of the past; I am sure your singing would change so much for the better. You could become one of the greatest singers of the 21st century. In any event, all the best. Thank you for responding. Your love for music really shines through.
i cannot imagine what it must be like to have half a carreer singing soprano arias, then have your voice dropping an octave (and a half??) lol....As a women I sort of had a very gradual subtle change, like voice dropping a couple of notes, but the timbre more or less to my feeling stayed the same....voice break must feel you have to learn singing all over again...I really wonder how that is for boys....

Recording lacks sensitivity and resonance. Excellent performance.
