      This is not jazz. Jojo doesn't play jazz. This is literally drum and bass. That's what Jojo plays. Drum and bass. Not jazz. He will even say this. He can definitely play jazz because he's an incredible musician but this...this is not jazz.

    Jojo has such tight control. Even that open / closed hi hat syncopated rhythm is so challenging to have going while doing the other busy snare work. Wow

    One of the best drum soli i have ever heard and seen... reminds me a bit to Tony Williams. Jojo is amazingly outstanding, cos he plays most modern stuff, but with perfect classic stick control.

    Truly mind blowing. 90% of the viewers have no idea how complicated this is and what he is doing here. This is a deep dude, brilliant...he's just smarter and better than the rest of us. When someone plays at this level it's too good to comprehend because he is that good. His technique is just insane. There might some classical snare drummer that can hang w/Jojo, but no way can he play a kit which makes Jojo doing this stuff in a case by himself. Thomas Lang is a freak technically speaking but his ideas (compositions) are not as sophisticated. Lang settles for speed...he is a Lamborghini. Jojo has the same engine but drives more diverse roads.

    • @drummaman1

      What does it matter what I call it? I'm pointing out the stigma that anything and everything that's instrumental (no vocalist) in nature a musician might create is categorized somehow as "jazz". Even though jazz roots are clearly evident, they are using different templates from which to create their improvisation.
      Also, the myth that improvisation immediately equals "jazz", and that jazz means they make it up on the spot without rhyme or reason, is also another myth perpetuated. The more you get into how improvisation is created, you realize the structure and formality needed to not only have an improvisation, but have it so that it's also interesting to all involved, listener as well as performer. Calling it "jazz" and calling its practitioners "jazz master" just whitewashes all of it. Just enjoy the performance for what it is and don't bother with genres or labels.

    • @MrGreenthumb_
      @MrGreenthumb_ 8 лет назад

      I did enjoy the performance, genres and labels don´t bother me at all. But you said "I wouldn´t call it Jazz master". How would you call it?
