Silver piece isn't for protection, but a spacer. If you have deeply lugged shoe soles, it will move the cleat 1mm closer to the pedal, so entrance and exit engagement doesn't get fouled by the shoe tread.
According to their website (as of today) the -3mm version is 310 gram and the standard version is 314 gram so the weight for yours is spot on which is always nice.
Hi really good video. I want to buy the xtr 9100 pedals but I don’t know which axle (standard or -3mm) . My bike is a scott spark rc 900 team 2020. Boost. I don’t know which version of axle is the right for me. Could you please help me. Thanks
i have the trail version, one issue is that the AL is very soft and the outer edge of the body will wear down to a sharp edge over time, ive had to file mine down to blunt the edge
‘I’m shopping for a pair of pedals for my ‘high end’ gravel bike. I’ll buy new shoes too. I’m of a mind that once I’ve done that, I can just get on with enjoying my bikepacking adventures, and forget costs etc. which really are of little concern to me. It’s a pair of bike pedals, not a Ferrari m/car!!! So, these Shimano XTR or pedals with a flatter platform and single sided clip in? I’m more used to my road bike, where I clip in leaving home and stay that way till the coffee stop at least, I expect to be hiking more of course, but which pedal is it to be? Thanks for the vid.

I got the standard version, best pedals I've ever had
Thanks for describing the 52/55mm difference. I'm going w/52mm now that I know it corresponds with my boost crankset.
So what are the different metals used in the M9100? Anything that will rust? Metal coatings flake off after 3-4 years?

Thats the problem with aluminum I suppose
Can you please review specialized fuse expert 29 (2021)?
I sure hope so. I have not seen one yet though.
